If you are running a high compression engine, have the old school "early" foxbody starter, or have relocated your battery to the trunk, you might find that it is difficult to get the car to start. This video shows Ford's factory foxbody crank settings and discusses some things that may make your car "catch" faster during cranking.

This is great info, I have watched many of your videos and can't thank you enough for this content, it's very helpful. One thing I would love help on and I think would help others is dialing in cranking fuel as well. I know there's another video that covers whether Ford used the Fuel Prime logic or not, however it would be very helpful to see a video on how to dial in cranking fuel. I have not been able to find any videos on this yet and given Ford uses a different measurement in cranking fuel (inj. pw vs. lb/hr), it would be very helpful for a video on that. Thanks again!

Hey awesome advice! Ive always had that sluggish start and didnt know how to make it a snappy start. This video is 100! Set my crank timing to 12 and start idle to 275 and BAM! Fires off like a rocket ship! Keep em coming!

I went down to 8 deg and 350 rpm ..since, my 331 cranks way faster and starts way much better then befor..

I had no idea what these settings did, now I'll play with it since my battery is trunk mounted and I have a very hard to start car.

Does it have a hard time getting the starter to crank quickly, or is the starter cranking quick but the car just doesn’t want to start very fast?

@@LeechMotorsports cranks just about kills the battery then it will finally start with opening the throttle, but I need to find my vacuum leak too before I get into it further.

It may help to slightly reduce cranking fuel or increase idle air duty cycle during cranking at the problematic temperatures.

I’ve tried that with mine and it made no difference. My cranking isn’t sluggish, it spins over pretty good but, it just takes 2-3 seconds to fire up.

I wish I had a laptop. The handheld device doesn’t have all these options. The only thing I see is cranking timing and that’s it. Good info though

Yeah the handheld is good for little more than a first start or just being a display gauge in the car. Can’t tune a Holley efi car without a laptop.

If you install a copy of binary editor. You can look at the free gufb strategy with your choice of oem calibration. Once there you’ll want to look st the sea level spark table and the wot timing vs rpm function.

Great Video! I'll Definitely Be Doing This Later. I've Got An '88 Fox Hatch That I Just Finished Installing This System On A Few Days Ago. I Also Need To Configure The IAC Like You Showed In A Previous Video. Do You Have Any Recommendations For Things That Need To Be Adjusted Or Changed In The Settings? My Setup Is A 347 Stroker, Trick Flow Heads, Port Matched Trick Flow Upper And Lower Intake, 11.7:1 Compression With A TKO500 And Obviously The Holley Terminator X EFI. I'm Just Up Here In Tulsa...Thank You!

At nearly 12:1 compression, I would drop cranking timing to 0-5 degrees. Make sure your fuel injector data is correct. Don’t just pick something similar in size just because it’s in the list. Make sure to change the cubic inches also so your fuel calculations will be accurate. Our shop is in stroud, so if you ever want to bring it down for work or tuning, we can certainly help. Also trying to coordinate with Kerry hunt right now to get the Facebook fox body groups from OKC and Tulsa together this year for an event.
