Something people often seem to not realise when it comes to Space Marine armour in general is that the only thing stopping regular humans using it is the neurological interface the black carapace used by Space Marines, if ordinary humans were able to have this implanted any could use both Power and Terminator Armour. This also lends in my mind evidence toward the Stone Men of the DAOT being something akin to cybernetically inhanced humanoids, maybe cyborg-like who interfaced with early proto versions of heavy armour for dangerous industrial work.

Great Vid as usual. What is the power consumption like on these armors when fighting for prolonged periods of time say like a week to a month fight time? ok, so u get fast and thin or slow and thick armors and judging by the R&D involved will they ever jump this hurtle? The grey nights get the best of the best, any exceptions for them in terms of agility?

How do Inquisitors, particularly of the Ordo Malleus wear power armour. Obviously it's not of the same type as the Astartes but it's no doubt of the highest quality. Could actually make a good video on non-Asartes versions of armours and weapons used by regular humans such as power fists etc.

Considering humans once had the Men of Iron as their main military force, regular humans in suits of power armor may have only been used in industrial and logistical purposes. After all, why have a human in power armor as a main fighting unit when you could build a robot to do the job, often better than the human ever could. Still, your point is valid. It reminds me of the baneblade tank once being considered a light tank in the dark age of technology. Makes you wonder what the heavy tanks were like.

I mean, you're joking, but it kinda makes sense that you'd be able to do that in Terminator armour, in the absolutely insane universe that is 40k. We know from lore, that the Imperium is slinging truly scary amounts of energy in day to day operation, so making servos that fit in the legs og a Terminator suit, that makes it able to leap great distances shouldn't be too difficult. And it also makes sense, given what we know about modern Armoured Fighting Vehicles. Some of the most tactically mobile ground vehicles in any modern army today, happen to also be some of the heaviest (the Main Battle Tanks). It might just be because people have this preconception that heavy must equal low mobility. But even the Tiger tank of WWII was more mobile (faster and more powerful) than lighter tanks og similar vintage (Panzer III and IV).

I just wanted to add some info on the newest of those armour's, the Allarus Pattern used by the Adeptus Custodes. As if they weren't sexy enough just judging by looks, the fluff says that it's a *NEW* version of Tactical Dreadnaught Armor, as opposed to all other versions which range from old to ancient, the product of 10.000 years of research and development! So, it's new and improved... how improved, you ask? Well, according to the lore it offers greater protection than the typical Indomitus pattern, but not as much as the Cataphractii, Gorgon or Aquilon patterns. No, the improved protection isn't the selling point here... it's that the Allarus pattern has *NONE* of the downsides of all other Terminator armour, *offering FULL freedom of movement* just like a regular Power Armor/Black Carapace combo! And of course with the full range of all kinds of WTFBOOM armaments that *Big E's* Golden Boys have access to. *GULP* Now let that sink in for a minute and, regardless of what you are, be it Heretic, Mutant, Xeno or Daemon... pray to the Emperor that you *never* have to face Golden Banana Allarus Terminators in combat, because those guys will teach anything that's smaller than a Baneblade the meaning of "expanded anal circumference"...

The ‘Emperor’s shard myth’ has always sounded reasonable to me. While you couldn’t produce an entire “shard” per armor, you could easily do millions of little metal flakes from what was likely half a ton of armor. There has not been millions of suits of terminator armor, I don’t believe there’s even a hundred thousand of them left. The word ‘shard’ is likely just a poor word choice. On the point of ‘scaled’ power armor, it is far more likely that variants have existed and only been used for VIP’s (due to the rarity and responsibility required for wielding such relics). The reason is that you can’t scale technology up or down easily is that weight/tolerances of the material (density/mass) and user strength (human/astartes) vary wildly. The servo sizes in themselves would also be a likely unresolvable issue and while 40k doesn’t always have to be perfectly logical, this is a bit of an absurd assumption. This also explains why Astra Militarum officers don’t use power armor, for if you could just scale it down and craft copies, you could bet your butt that more generals would be wearing it.
@NKWittmann

Space Marine Terminator... imagine a 500 pound silverback gorilla suddenly smashing through a wall in front of/behind you wielding two automatic shotguns. Running would be your first thought, if you even have time for that. What the game "Space Hulk Deathwing" did really well was showing how vulnerable even Terminators are if caught off guard by an enemy coming from every direction with superior numbers. Terminators are not invincible and have very exploitable weaknesses. Either you ambush them in close quarters, overpower them with superior firepower or swarm them with numbers. In a straight fight they're nearly unkillable.

Great video. The idea that Terminator Armour is rooted in DAOT industrial and astro-industrial mechanisms designed to withstand the punishing forces of nature in the interests of collecting resources is interesting (re: your pinned comment). So would I be right in thinking that the Imperium is actually built upon the scraps of a long lost age and is protected by what are essentially techno-knights wearing re-designed ultra deep pressure wet suits or are the Astartes clad in STC designed armour built from the ground up?

Just a bit of a nitpick to an extremely enjoyable video- in addition to the Custodes using Allarus Terminator Armour, they also used Aquilon Terminator Armour. I’m unsure if that was strictly during the Horus Heresy, but if regular Astartes chapters still make use of relic armours, the Custodes may, as well. Anyway- fantastic video, as per usual. Thank you so much for all the hard work and time that you put into your videos. I was going to introduce a few relatives to Warhammer, and always planned on having them watch your Emperor videos, but didn’t know where to go from there- but as you’ve added more and more excellent and in-depth (not to mention very well-written) videos, I have a definite “watch this one next!” playlist as a pretty definitive introduction to the world of 40K. So also, thanks for making my job so much easier, and for making them some of my favorite 40K vids to watch, too.

The thing about Terminator armor is that as heavy and awkward as it looks, it's synthetic muscles are designed to easily handle the weight. As a matter of fact one of the biggest reasons only the best warriors wear it is because it weighs several tons but is so light and nimble to use most marines cant keep up with it, it is according to some lore more agile than than the standard powered armor.so you end up with a guy trying to charge an enemy and without thinking he ends up sprinting close to a 100 MPH with no way to stop himself, or trying to jump away from an enemy and suddenly he's doing a backflip 50 feet in the air and with no idea where he's landing. It really doesn't help when you consider how they're controlled, it's called Tactical Dreadnought Armour for a reason its to bridge the gap between normal MKVII armor and Dreadnought armor and get the best of both worlds, so it has the same Mind-Impulse-Unit that real Dreadnoughts have.

I think power armour is not as cumbersome for normal humans as you make it sound like. I remember a scene in one of the Ciaphas Cain novels where a sister of battle casually jumps over the heads of some guys standing in her way just to show off basically. Also Lucien Garrit in the Rogue Trader Omnibus uses his power armour in battle and has no trouble keeping up, running and jumping etc along guardsmen scouts. So I think the black carapace is not needed to properly move in power armour, it probably just gives you an edge in reaction time and body control - maybe it wouldn't even make a big difference for a normal human and is just needed to make the armour keep up with the space marines superhuman reflexes and speed.

Something to consider, FFG lists Mind Interface Units as a cybernetic addon for regular humans. Think of it as a scaled down black carapace to allow links to various armors etc. Which is how humans would be able to use powered armor more effectively while not having the say, bandwidth, to allow for full on sensory interface etc.
