Notice that virus will *not* provide you with a microbe tag since events are played face-down in your collection of played cards, and their tag therefore does not count for the purpose of other card's effect dependent on the number of a specific tags one player owns.
Indeed. I had Inventrix and an almost perfect collection of cards. I'm also by far the best TM player in our group and have 50 games under my belt. Still lost to a basic titanium strategy. Generally, the main problem is that few cards actually improve your engine. It is probably possible to pull off with some really lucky combinations in the first or second generation, the tag-benefitting cards and just a lot of fitting cards later on.
You should *never* rely on less than 1 VP per generation cards. I would also say that countering ground strategy (like occupying critical city locations) is even more important than playing 1,5VP/gen cards. Closing your opponents greenery formations with your own cities can be gamechanging.
