I see lots of discussion (as expected) regarding Terramaster's definitions of RAID modes here. We had a similar amount of confusion during a livestream I did as we were testing this device. Typically JBOD means "just a bunch of disks" where each disk appears individually. However Terramaster is instead using this to define a 'spanned' volume and creating a new term, single, for what JBOD would be on other RAID devices.

Also check out similar from OWC- the OWC RAID enclosures are a little cheaper and I recommend them.

I would avoid this device at all cost - no matter how many bays there are 2,4 or 5 the device is slower than expected when it comes to network transfers. You are better off buying a large capacity Toshiba Performance Hard Drive and connecting it via SATA in my experience that was at least 3x faster than the crappy TerraMaster D2-330

@@vinylmonster4907 how slow are we talking about? I'm thinking of cold archive storage device, so I'd be content even with 40MB/s transfer speeds, and a plex media storage.

@@MisterPikol if you are satisfied with 40MB/s then you should be okay with the device - its said to be capable of upwards of 300+ i was lucky to get 80MB

Hey Lon, did they mix up the ‘single’ and ‘jbod’ modes? Traditionally, JBOD is the one where the drive show up as individual disks. Have they implemented it differently on this product?

I thought that was the case as well - we spent some time on the livestream I did the other day trying to figure out the definitions they’re using. Apparently this is a terramaster thing.

Hi I'm interested in the new Galaxy Tab A7 I was wondering if you heard about whether or not it's going to be coming to the be able to be bought here instead of maybe in Europe my concern was whether or not I might be able to purchase it on eBay

The other raids are that safe either, only in theory. I have seen or heard about non Raid 0 drives failing. I had used RT Studio program or something like that to recover from a crashed raid drive.

Can you connect this to a (terramaster) NAS via USB and backup all the files in there to the NAS? Sort of an external backup

It only supports Thunderbolt so it won't connect to a USB host.

Honestly. I had high hopes for this thing but being that I wouldn't get true Thunderbolt read/write speeds, I wouldn't buy it. I would only be using it to have redundant backups of all my video footage. I would not be connecting monitors or any other external devices to it. Great video though. If I had not watched your very thorough review, I would have not known that it was lacking in actual thunderbolt speeds. Thank you.

made the regrettable mistake of buying the D2-330, installed a new single 10tb Toshiba 7200rpm 256mb cache only to discover transfer rates were much slower with the device than removing the drive and connecting it directly to my PC via SATA which proved to be more than 2-3 times faster. The D2 330 maxed out at 80 MB/s which has been extremely disappointing. I recommend avoiding it.

So jbod acts like a Windows dynamic disk instead of just presenting both drives individually? JBOD = just a bunch of disks, so if so, that’s a misleading name for them to give it....

Yes, if they did that it is very bad since JBOD is suppose to be just a bunch of disks to the enclosure and all drives are passed over as individual drives to the OS.

Hardware RAID is great but without some kind of console or software to report disk status, performance and errors, I would not trust it.

How is it not a NAS? If it’s not a NAS, then it must be a glorified USB to Ethernet adapter, providing to whatever computer it’s plugged into via a USB cable, a wired network connection?
