@steelmote The i-frame issue was kept in on purpose, and actually, with a cheat mod like DragonLens, you can toggle local i-frames for the boulder gun.
@@TerrawWhat if... The Boulder deals 115 base DMG, uses Local I-Frames, attenuates 10% Damage per hit. That way it couldn't cheese Destroyer easily, or crowds. The 115 base Damage would help with Single target DPS. 'fortheworthy' boulders would split into three 30% DMG boulderlets with a 25% damage attenuation. Rolling Cactus would have base 80 DMG, with 0 damage attenuation per hit, until piercing 5 targets, then releasing cactus spines. The spines would launch at a 400% increased distance than a normal rolling Cactus, deal a base 40 DMG, and remain embedded in targets, repeatedly dealing 20 DMG every 30 ticks. Bouncy Boulders would bounce up to 20 times, and also ping off of enemy hotboxes like crystal darts. They would do base 150 DMG, and attenuate 5% damage per bounce. (Example: BB does 200 damage, hits tiles 1,2,3, then enemy (4), deals 160 damage) Life Crystal Boulders would have a brutal 180 base DMG. They would have no ammo reservation, nor would they drop upon breaking. They would not Pierce targets, rather fracturing into explosive shards that would bounce 3 times, exploding per bounce. Many people know how easy it can be to exploit player/world save differences to duplicate items exponentially, so the Life Crystal Boulder would be a stupidly viable option anyway. Bouncy Boulders would be as easy as duplicating Pink Gel. I already duplicate Life Crystals to sell to NPCs, and even Golden Delight pre-hardmode. So, this might not be the best idea.
I do because it is pary of a strategy of mine for ooa tier 3. 5 seconds is too short of a time to place 100 sentries and if you open chest before the event the ethernium mana disappears. Staff of earth is a great weappn for wave 1 before I can set up.
Combine a Dart Trap, a switch and two cables to get the portable Dart Trap. - it looks like the character holding it (1:1 sized) - it is piercing - shoots every second - does not consume ammo („it holds infinite amounts of darts“) - can be upgraded with the 1/2 second timer and a spider fang to get the portable venom Dart Trap (shoots twice a second) - can be further upgraded with the 1/4 second timer and a Lihzahrd Power Cell to get the portable Super Dart Trap (shoots four times a second)
Alright so what if the cactus boulders spawn spikes on hit and life crystal boulders heal allies by 20 if they get hit I mean I really don’t expect you to update the mod as it seems like a one off thing but it could be cool
aside from some special ability, the life crystals boulders would really need some kind of change when it comes to crafting/them dropping life crystals on destruction because even though theyre technically reusable, youre bound to lose some unless youre in a neatly built arena

wouldn't be surprised if we got something like a boulder launcher that deals the full 400 dmg rather the normal 100 dmg to enemies as a ranged version of the Zenith just for kicks and giggles

The poo boulder should have a 10 tick fire rate and cause non-'fortheworthy' Red Potion debuffs, as well as dealing absolutely no damage at all, yet exploding into 15 Bouncy Dynamite sticks upon breaking. No, that's a terrible idea.

There is now a ranged weapon which shoots boulders, in addition to the staff of earth, which is a magic weapon that shoots boulders. I strongly desire a boulder-themed yoyo and some kind of boulder summon weapon so the other classes don't miss out on this.
Just add new boulders. Everything need the Heavy workbench to be crafted. Bone boulder (bones+tissue sample/shadow scales): works like cactus shooting bones arround and after breaking releases 3 to 5 skulls that chase of nearby enemies for 30 seconds or until dealing 10 hits. Hell boulder(Hellstone + obsidian + near lava): If it hits it gets stuck on the enemies reducing their speed a bit and deals the hellfire debuff and a DoT that triggrers 5 times. Crystal boulder(Stone + crystals): Mix of Cactus and bouncy boulder that bounce 7 times and shoots crystals in 8 directions after breaking. Clorophite boulder: Homing boulder that inflicts the acid venom debuff. The boulder hits the enemy 3 to 5 times before breaking. Explosive boulder(stone + explosive powder or + bombs/dynamite/explosives): regular boulders that explodes when hitting an enemy in a bigger and bigger areas also breaking blocks if you used explosives to make them.
I feel like some type of life steal could be a good thing to put on the heart crystal boulders so they’re not just a more expensive version of normal boulders. Maybe 1 or 2 health on hit if the crystals stay reusable, or go for an approach of like 20 health per hit with the trade off of having to do hours of caving or fishing to use them. Both would likely need a healing cap per boulder, as to not trivialize stuff like the destroyer or events. With the second approach ammo conservation similar to the bouncy boulders would probably be needed. Personally I think the first approach is better, as the second could be effectively better vampire knives you get earlier, but with some tweaks it could still work. Also boulders breaking after hitting a set number of targets, probably 5 or so, could balance the insane crowd control it has for a pre-mech weapon
My idea for life crystal boulders: lifesteal. It would work pretty well if the cost of those boulders will be reduced. And the bouncy boulders could have reduced damage for the cost of being very bouncy (and once again, be cheaper to craft). Cactus boulders should get a damage buff and thats it. Overall, I love this.
Instead of using actual trap boulders, use a separate projectile that looks like a boulder and acts like a boulder. Now you're free to make changes: - No self damage - All boulders disappear after hitting 10 enemies - Life boulders have lifesteal, 95% ammo reservation, and no longer drop life crystals when they hit the ground - Cactus boulders ignore some armour, and their spikes let you hit more enemies than the 10 pierce limit normally would allow. Keep the low damage to balance this. - Bouncy boulders can only hit 3 times. - And most importantly, boulders now have static immunity, with bouncing boulders and cactus spikes having local immunity. Now we have a weapon that by default packs a punch for crowd control. Cactus boulders allow for huge crowd control and their defence piercing makes them ideal for the dungeon. Life boulders make a good boss option if you can afford the price, similar to the star cannon. And bouncing boulders allow you to fill a room with boulders, knowing that even if you miss at first, every single one you fire will eventually connect. Also I'd add the terra boulder, which has homing (only horizontal, not vertical), divides in half with every hit or bounce, and has huge damage even on the small ones. Local immunity obviously. It cannot be reserved through any kind of ammo reservation potion or armor set bonus, you throw it and functions like a screen clear, seeking out and destroying everything within bouncing distance of the ground.
It could cost boulders, illegal gun parts, a snowball cannon, and cogs in order to lock it behind hardmode. That recipe or something like it makes the most sense to me.
Petition for this to be craftable in 1.4.5 because i would love to see this ingame, maybe a cost buff like hallowed bars since it seems a bit too strong for pre-mech, but that might just be me.
And post moon lord you can make the Avalauncher Autocannon that fires boulders at an extreme rate of fire with extra velocity. You can also charge it to release a king boulder that's 3 times as big and 8 times at damaging.
I feel like you could make the rolling cacti act like the crystal bullets and the ichor darts, where it shatters into like say 6-8 spikes which applies a debuff similar to the daybreak’s where it stacks based on the amount of spikes that hit the enemy, like +3 dps up per spike capping at like 50 spikes. Also just cause a cacti would definitely be lighter than a solid sphere of rocks, maybe it can have a faster velocity of 1.5x. That might solve the single target issue if a boulder cannon was to be added to the game. Also for the life crystal boulder, most logical idea would probably be to make it act like an AOE lesser healing potion that isn’t affected by potion sickness or just supercharge any life regeneration buffs for a couple of seconds after hitting the first enemy, since getting enough life crystals to craft into a reasonable amount of boulders is kinda tedious, so it should be at least decently rewarding to use. And for the sake of balancing make it deal 3/5 of the damage of the normal boulder cause we don’t wanna end up with what is essentially a pre-plantera vampire knife in the form of a gun with infinite pierce
You could make a whole selection of boulder ammo: snowboulders, corruption orbs, hellstone boulders which release lava upon breaking, pearlstone boulders which have more damage and confuse enemies... Maybe you could even shoot bombfish with it, or there's a new large pufferfish that you can catch to use as ammo. Meteorite can be crafted into real meteorites now idk. Depends how silly you wanna go ha
Hello, somewhat experienced modder here (I made Orchid, GitGudBR and Echoes of Teyvat) A more elegant way of locking your weapon to hardmode would be to use Souls of Light/Night in the recipe. Some items such as the Cool Whip or the Meteor Staff use them, and it doesn't cause a thematical issue. You COULD still lock it behing the mythril anvil, but there are (to my knowledge) no similar cases in vanilla, and all hardmode anvil recipes use items that are obtained at the same time or after said anvil. The recipe using 199 boulders also feels very ... modded, especially for a weapon, and does not blend well with vanilla recipes. An upgrade using soulds would again, in my opininon, make more sense. You could also use Forbidden Fragments or Crystal shards in the recipe and create an even more unique item, that would have a theme of its own, given some spritework (ancient pharaoh boulder trap weapon ?) A base damage of 35 feels very very low for a hardmode weapon. shadowflame knife deals 38, and does not consume ammo, and I would personally make the cactus boulders deals 40-ish damage. This would give ammo choice a more meaningful role, maybe giving the cactus an edge in single target against lower def enemies You could remove the ability from boulders spawned using this weapon to damage the player at all (Projectile.hostile = false) and get rid of the sketchy weapon swap issues with owned boulders damaging the player. I am fully aware this is likely something you've done for the sake of this video, and that you likely won't read this comment either (🥺), but changes like this are good practice when modding, and respecting vanilla "flow" usually make for better mods in my experience :) Also don't be shy about releasing the mod on the browser, it's very easy!
I'd probably put a timer on the boulders instead of making the player immune when holding it. Just a few frames of not hitting the player so they don't hit you as they're shot out.
For life crystal boulders I would probably give them have 90% ammo reservation but would not drop life crystals, for cactus ones I'd maybe have them have local i-frames and have the shards explode into more mini shards (but those shards wouldn't explode into even more cuz that's overpowered), for bouncy ones I'd dropkick the price, damage, and hits per second, but would make them have local i-frames to benefit the bouncy behavior while not being way too powerful, and for all cannon-fired boulders, they would keep only being able to hit enemies even after switching off of the cannon.
Life crystal boulders = 100% chance to drop a heart (healing) Cacti = DOT (10 each hit max of 50 per tick) Boulder = FTW boulder in hardmode Bouncy boulder = Nano bullet effect something like that Zenith boulder/moon boulder (Zenith seed exclusive) = All at once
I think a *change* that would still work is instead of making you invincible to boulders while holding that weapon, just make them not hurt you (: It totally wont make the item EVEN MORE situational!
I think that making it deal player level damage instead of mob level, and also making it damage the player after a boulder has been live for a little bit would be huge.
To balance out the way it infinitely pierces, you could have boulders break after hitting enough enemies, into some extra boulder shards that could hit another enemy. Doing this, and changing the point of progression could help it become a much better balanced weapon for both bosses and crowd control.
I have the idea of a post Planterra boulders that aims at foes after bouncing (like a specter boulder made with boulders and exoplasm) and of course a post moon lord boulder that is like a bouncy boulder but hits the enemies more (aka it has local immunity). and other things I'd like to see are 1. a new sprite. and 2. it having the ability to shoot bee hives. also 3. maybe cacti and heart boulders having a buff. though I have no idea how to balance things at all.
Boulder launcher should give you 10-15 seconds new buff called Boulderproof which would make you immune to all boulders you have shooted! The buff would be applied when shooting a boulder
