As someone who plays the game on very hard modded difficulties and has a fair amount of game knowledge, it is probably more impressive to me than it would be for someone like you
Gonna leave a little bit of an essay here. Hope nobody minds. I have been speedrunning Terraria since mid-late 2017, and have been a part of the community ever since. Since then, I've seen people join the discord, some putting more hours into the game than others, establishing dominance over a category and then after maybe 2-3 years of playing the game and being a part of the community, they disappear for one reason or another. It is not unreasonable to say that what the community of the past has built up played a part in making your Moon Lord run not even just possible, but believable. A few years ago, people didn't believe in the prospect of n2 mechs, and they definitely didn't think sub hour was at all achievable for this category. What I'm getting at is that we are fortunate to be at a point in terraria speedrunning where we know more about the game than ever before, thanks to, no doubt, certain talented individuals within our community at the moment, but also thanks to the former community members who've built up a history, culture, and a foundation for us (you) to culminate in this feat. Afro, when you joined back in 2020, you were going for night's edge 1.4 glitched seeded WR, a decently simple category. While you weren't afraid to ask for help, you also brought with you an attitude of competition; you were undeterred from WR times being pushed lower, and you weren't afraid of how competitive a certain category was. I remember distinctly the time when I got a WR in APHB 1.4 nma, you responded with "i’m gonna steal that later," while also doubling down with wanting to get "every ne wr first." Initially I didn't think too deeply about it, you were still relatively new and I wasn't sure if you would stick around. Even though you never ended up stealing it later, it doesn't change my point because I remember you quickly became a top competitor for journey ML. As much as it is meme'd at this point, you were establishing dominance in this category, even rivaling against Max, who has been around longer than even me, and who has proven his superiority and skill with the game. And this was within the span of 5 months after joining. You joined and almost immediately brought the heat and maintained the momentum. I thought to myself, yeah this guy's probably here to stay. Fast forward to now, you have become dominant in the ML 1.4 nma category. Even before 1.4.4, Max had been holding the WR for quite some time, until a few people managed to beat it, but you ended up with the best time out of everyone from that group of people, with a 1:18:37, beating the previous time by about 3 minutes. Then the update came out and a bunch of strats were invented, with the record being traded back and forth. With a game like terraria, with it's RNG, it's hard to set expectations for what the best theoretical time can be, and thus it could be challenging to set reasonable but strong goals for this game. But against all odds, you pull through with each time barrier, and you remain competitive with the top runners. You never give up, you kept going, bringing the time lower and lower, and you never looked back. You cutting 5 minutes off the previous record to attain a 52 is a testament to that. I believe we should all, and especially yourself, should champion your attitude, competitive spirit, and unwillingness to back down from a challenge of any magnitude. From my 7-8 years in the community, I can't say I have seen anybody else like you. At the end of the day, terraria is just a game, and speedrunning at it's core is just for fun. However, what comes from that is something that you can take with you whenever you want to accomplish something in the real world. I don't know how long you'll stick around or if you'll go for sub 50, or whatever, but I hope that you hold onto this "afroman persona" whenever you set out to accomplish your goals. I wish you continued success. Don't let anyone ever doubt your accomplishments. 🏀 -psi
❤ I agree with you when you say this run was a culmination of the whole community's efforts. It's incredible to see how far the boundaries have been pushed. Every few months I think to myself "this is as fast as we're gonna get" and I've been proven wrong every time. Who knows how low the time can get now? So many unique contributions have been made by every runner, whether it's testing new strategies (Patrik), digging through the games code to find information we never could've found otherwise (mike and Unftf), or even something simple like a change in running mindset (Saxon and Zoe). And I could go on and on crediting people. So, I thank each and every one of you for making this possible, and, like you said, believable. And thanks for writing this comment, I really do appreciate your kind words. Reading it, I can't help but feel optimistic about whatever happens in the future, both in speedruns and my life. I hope others feel this way too. Speedrunning may seem silly at first, but the constant push to achieve and help others along the way becomes part of you. Never give up - Afro
dang bro great Terraria Playthrough 🔥. Gonna really miss this one 😢. My favorite episode was the one where you played hide and seek with the Pwnhammer 🙌.
Holy crap man the dedication is insane. i remember trolling in peds server and while i was interested in speedrunning full game, i didnt have the equipment or the time. Fast forward a couple years and you are absolutely dominating this category with efforts from so many people culminated in one run. Shits crazy and mad props bro
My favorite part of this entire run for some reason was that tiny little box that counts as housing for the guide at the start. No clue why that works but I love it
I've only been playing terraria for about a week and have just started hard mode Needless to say this was quite the experience to watch Everything minecart related was amazing to see
Also what’s with the chicken teriyaki chilli paprika bread toasted tomatoes onion jalapeno sweet chilli sweet onion hot chilli American peppered American cheese?
You know a speed run will be impressive if it has an epilepsy warning in it I know literally nothing about speed runs but this is genuinely so interesting to watch
if i had a dollar every time a terraria speedrunner forgot his pwnhammer in hell, came back for it and got a WR in his category anyway, i'd have 2 bucks. which is not much, but it's weird it happened twice.
Simple explanation: If a house has gaps without walls that are smaller than a 4x4 then it's still considered valid In-depth video on the topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kM33wZYvHNs.html
@@manwiththeafro oh, that's actually really neat. I always just assumed houses always needed walls to be valid. I'm going to have to mess around with that at some point
As someone who’s never watched a terraria speedrun, I wondered why you covered up temple in the beginning. That’s crazy forsight. I wonder how much time that saved
it sucks i missed this (we had a lot of shit going on at home but basically i only have my phone atm so couldn't be around for streams, new laptop comin soon doe XD) but hell yeah kiddo you fucking destroyed it 🤛 the goatiest
My god. I’m playing through Terraria again for the first time in about 4 years. Just beat The Destroyer and have full Hallowed thinking I was progressing pretty well in the game. Now I realize that I’m playing the elementary version of the game 😂 What a run through dude GZ
Ahhh I feel like Classic is a better choice for beginners. It's much more forgiving and lets you learn the game without worrying too much about enemies killing you in one or two shots. Expert is definitely a major step up in difficulty.
This guy makes dynamite look like the Zenith. I watched the destroyer "fight" and my jaw actually dropped. Where can I find an hour long video that shows how to do this lol. (This is actually crazy what the heckkk)
I use a macro for generating worlds but not for re-entering. You can navigate the menu using WASD which is faster than mouse. The inputs are A->click->A->click-A->click
Livesplit says 249 hours which is a bit inaccurate from me not hitting save every time. Probably in the realm of 300+ hours with 2000+ resets. I have 5k hours in terraria total
Quick question, How did you know where the shimmer was? was that just luck? because the only thing I know about its spawn conditions are that it spawns on the same side as the jungle and next to the ocean, and it still took me like an hour to find it
In small worlds you can start digging from the middle of the beach sand and almost always find shimmer directly below. For other world sizes, it's location can vary and be difficult to find. There are ways to locate the shimmer biome easier using some knowledge of the game's code. Without going into the specifics, knowing the type of brick used in jungle shrines and the dungeon can let you locate exactly where it is. Here is an image I made that tells you how to do it: imgur.com/a/pF4rhNH
I have a commentated run posted on my channel that goes through the same route: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RF_AT1EhZIo.htmlsi=q-Us7QPlp0y3aPcu
Hey Inception here, havent ran terraria or anything at all since you were running JML and nights edge, but holy shit you are just better dude. keep pushing the game to its limits😆
damn, I wish I could do this on mobile, I had like night's edge, attack and def potions, and other Regen and health Perma buffs and still can't beat twins
At the time of watching this i have around 600+ hours on this game, and none of the playthroughs i've finished were on a normal mode world always expert or master, maybe i should beat moonlord on normal mode to see how easy it is by comparison 😅
