@@TempleoftheSon "because you say it is" When I said it's a cool gizmo, that was my subjective impression. When I said it was crazy inefficient that is objectively true. The motors not pointing down are not as efficient as motors pointing down. Helicopters don't have rotors pointing every which way for a reason. you want the rotors providing thrust to propel you forward and thrust to keep you in the air. The Lynchpin has four times as many motors as what is needed to fly. The majority of the motors are added weight and not necessary to fly. The Lynchpin is basically four multi rotors connected so any one of the four can provide the lift. Depending on the angle the Lynchpin is flying, there may be several of the four multi rotors working together but they when they're working together, they're also fighting against each other. The Lynchpin is less efficient than if you had one quadcopter carrying three unpowered quadcopters.

Someone needs to invent a rotor where each blade can pivot on its own axis. You would never need a motor to stop and change directions to reverse thrust. You just twist the blades 180 degrees. You'd also have the ability to tune the pitch of the blade to optimise for rpm sweet spot and aircraft speed. A non-linear adjustment.

It may cut down on the jerky rotation from where each time a rotor has to stop and reverse very quickly, it would only have to simply stop the forward rotation briefly as the reverse portion continues as it was …. I under stand there is a sort of interlocking rotor blade system that as the (2) three blade counter rotating rotors align, they fit like puzzle pieces to make what appears to be a single rotor a total of 3 times per full revolution… maybe this may help?

The biggest problems with his design of the lynchpin is that the rotors inherently interfere with eachother and have a non-optimal angle in terms of the thrust that is generated by e.g. moving in one direction. This makes the design quite ineffecient. Even if in space, this design is actually not likely to be the optimal solution since there is never even just one single thruster/propellar that is pointed in the exact opposite direction of the moving trajectory. The structure is constantly fighting against itself and basically "collapsing" inwards which results in a notable loss of energy and an increased need of structural material to sustainably support this structure. Some of these problems could be mititgated by having thrusters/propellers on a rotatable axis as seen with other omnidirectional drones, but this just makes the design even more complex and inherently worse than the more "normal looking" omnidirectional drones on the market such as the Aerix drone. Additionally, in space, the lynchpin has to have thrusters that can thrust in two directions at each of the protruding pentagons or circles as he has also designed it as. Here on earth though, it has to have either the same configuration as in space or opt for very ineffecient propellars that are two-way compatible. Nonetheless, this design implies the use of 12 thusters/propellers compared to only 8 in e.g. the Aerix drone which can achieve the same results althrough it comes with it's own set of disadvantages. also, the "swarm" effect that terrence says the drone is also intended for is actually very inefficient as a lot of the lynchpins thrusters/propellers will become inoperable and closed of from the exterior. So if high material and energy consumption, cost, complexity, and ineffeciency is not a problem, then this design might be of good use. I will credit some inginuety as it seems to be novel and somewhat usefull in niche situations.

i believed that this would work since i saw the 3d animated video he showed on joe rogan showing the, at the time, hypothetical capabilities. Now it being real-world. I cant wait until they are single hexagons coming together and forming the design in the video. Mr. Howard thank you for coming out with your discovery's and thank you for taking your time and writing the introduction 1x1+2 in ur book. I get to watch the beginning of an evolution to science and the way we see the and understand ituniverse, in my life time Mr. Howard thank you!

I agree it's interesting. It's very impractical though. It's carrying around way more motors than is needed for flight. The camera movements can be replicated with a normal multirotor and a gimbal capable to moving above and below the drone.

@@ddegndo you go on every comment saying it's inefficient? Obviously this isn't a drone being made to be the cheapest way to fly. It's a theory being tested on a PROTOTYPE stage.... Relax man. It will come with time. He said this stuff is useful for space travel anyway

Please deliver this link Terrance! I don't know if he ever came across to "Doubly-even self-dual linear binary error-correcting block code," first invented by Claude Shannon in the 1940's, that has been discovered in 2018 embedded WITHIN the equations of superstring theory! i think he could get some reference or come to some intuitions on his previous studies, and find something resonate with his ideas.

The smart guys are the ones who figured out how to make this thing fly, its a math's problem, not going to change the drone world, ask yourself what does this offer over existing drones, and then ask yourself again. For example the whole drone doesn't need to rotate to keep something in view, or have multiple camera's, you only need to add rotation to the camera. Whilst this is an impressive experiment and no doubt will feed into the wider drone development, it is not as significant as people think, its highly inefficient at achieving things that lighter more efficient drones can already do. There is parallels to draw with the early decades of aircraft development.

"the whole drone doesn't need to rotate to keep something in view," Agreed. The Lynchpin drones were fun and cool experiments. They were wildly impractical.
@bschmidt1
@bschmidt1 3 дня назад
@@ddegn Would be curious to see lynchpin vs tricopter vs quadcopter regarding responsiveness, agility, etc. it could be optimal for some types of maneuvers or tasks. From what I understand the larger point of this design is to join it with other lynchpins. It's like in minecraft 1 block isn't that cool but you can assemble many blocks to make amazing structures. If you have something that can stably hover and move in any direction like a block in minecraft you could assemble anything. And I think his theory is that baseline reality involves the same movement and opposition of forces to assemble material reality, like tiny lynchpins. What I don't fully understand about the madness is why it's relevant to build a bigger version of molecular reality, or why a flying machine must mimic that mechanism if there are more optimal designs.
@ddegn
@ddegn 3 дня назад
@@bschmidt1 "it could be optimal for some types of maneuvers or tasks." I initially thought the same but the more I thought about, the more I doubted there was practical application for the drone. Since the Lynchpin drone carries extra motors to enable it to fly in any orientation, the Lynch pin drone has greater inertia than normal drones. This greater inertial makes changing direction slower than normal drones. "the larger point of this design is to join it with other lynchpins." I don't understand why the Lynchpin design adds any benefit to joining together. A normal drone would be better suited for carrying the weight of the hardware required to join drones together. The tetrahedral frame could be added to a normal drone if joining together is import. The Lynchpin not only carries around the weight of extra motors to fly in any orientation but the alignment of motors are inefficient since the motor/propellers have their thrust aligned sideways as well as down. The motors providing lift are also pulling against the other motors in the drone. It's a wildly inefficient design. *It is fun to see the drones fly through the air and change orientation.* They look cool but I think that's the only thing these drones have going for them.

@@ddegn Yet you advocate a quadcopter for navigating narrow tunnels which reveals you know nothing about drones - people build all kinds of imaginative things. It's actually a lot of fun and what engineering is all about. The guys who participated in his contest got like 25k and got to build something novel and show it to the world. I wonder what you've ever done besdies written comments - I'm guessing nothing since you think the quadcopter is the final and most optimal design for all tasks.

@@bschmidt1 "Yet you advocate a quadcopter for navigating narrow tunnels" Did I advocate a quadcopter for navigating narrow tunnels? I think I said a normal drone would be better. This lynchpin drone has to be larger than a normal drone in order to fly in any orientation. Did you see how tall the Lynchpin drones are? "which reveals you know nothing about drones" I don't? You're just reveal your absurd ignorance by advocating using such a large and inefficient design as the Lynchpin for tunnel navigation. "The guys who participated in his contest got like 25k and got to build something novel and show it to the world." And I've written many comments complimenting them on the job they did. Why didn't someone build one of these drones before the contest? I know why. Because there isn't an need for these types of drones. They're wildly inefficient which is obvious to anyone who has built drones. They are fun novelty. "I wonder what you've ever done besdies written comments" You must not wonder very much because many of the things I've done are on the internet. "I'm guessing nothing since you think the quadcopter is the final and most optimal design for all tasks" Are you a liar of just dumb? When did I say that? Besides many quadcopters, I've built many RC airplanes, helicopters and hexacopters. I've been taking aerial photographs with radio controlled aircraft since the 1980's. I also build land vehicles.
