The vast majority of people have at least one strain of herpes and most people pick it up as a child (sharing drinks, kisses from family, general childhood cooties). There really shouldn’t be a stigma against it.

yeah, I was a bit disappointed when he said 'it's a cold sore, not really herpes :('. Cold sores ARE herpes and can be transmitted like an STI. There is nothing shameful about having herpes (HSV1 or HSV2), a huge percentage of the population does, but it's misleading to say that cold sores are not "really" herpes. It's literally the same virus, just a different strain.

I feel you with the cold sore. Had the pleasure of having my first one this year in the ripe age of 30 and because of my eczema it flared up as a eczema herpeticum and I had to go to the ER and almost ended up in the ICU. So painful and felt like shit for a couple of weeks but survived! Never knew cold sores could be that brutal 😅

Just got over my cold sore. It shows up on the same little part of my lip every couple years. I never leave it alone. I will pick and peroxide, bleed it out, dry it, moisten it do it all again til it goes away lol. Its a process.

Don’t worry kurtis, I’ve been getting cold sores since 1st grade, I’m 15 and in 9th grade now, the amount of times I’ve explained that “it’s not HERPES herpes, it’s herpes simplex.” Ive had 3 cold sores at the same time, multiple times. The worst time was I had four cold sores at once, 3 on the top lip and 1 on the bottom. I keep abreva in my nightstand, just in case.

hate to break it to you but HSV stands for herpes simplex virus. herpes is herpes. hsv1 is usually oral and hsv2 is usually genital, but both are indeed "herpes herpes"
