The yo-yo drill is excellent. I try to get it into my sessions at least twice a week. When I first started, I wasn't confident enough to bring the cue ball across the table and so close to the side pocket, and as a result I often overcompensated for the potential scratch and got way out of position. Listening to your explanation while watching you go through the drill with various angles really helped me when I started practicing it. I've since gained a lot more confidence to execute the shots in game situations, but I still need a lot more reps to get the feel and touch down.
By the way, Niels, do you know some drills for practicing shooting over balls and shooting jacked up while still controlling the cue ball? Your drill bag seems to be very deep🙂
Thank you for this drill. . I have played my entire life and am a strong 6. I did this drill for 2 hours today and it put me in stroke like I haven't been in a long time. It seemed to rewire my brain and remove some more difficult position play and just made everything so effortless again. I even thought... why have I been making things so difficult on myself? I thank you Sir!
u will never know how much these videos are appreciated ive been playing since i was 12 im 68 now and i still learn something every time i watch tks so much
Thanks!!! And if you should need one, I offer "Personal Player Reviews" which is an awesome way of speeding up your learning curve 🔥🔥 Feel free to check it out here and PM me if you're interested 😃ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6VtPqpOIZTM.html
Started working on this drill today. This part of the game has given me troubles over the years but with this drill you quickly learn what shot to use. Just practice the drill and these situations become a lot easier. I am surprised how much this drill helped me improve in just a few hours. Neil's is like treasure chest of information. These videos are so well explained.
Totally agree on Neil's. I am an American that always roots for the American players in tournaments. But after that I am rooting hard for Neil's and Appleton. Neil's is still a top-level player and an excellent instructor. Wish you all the best Neil's.
Thanks Neils for this video. This is just the drill I am needing to work on my angles and cue positioning drill. Love all your tips. Can’t wait to see you later this year at the US Open hopefully I will get a chance to meet you in person. Thank you for everything you are doing for the game and helping us amateurs improve in the game we all love!!!
I bought all of Burt Kinister VHS tapes back in the 90's. This is the beginning part of the 6 and 9 pointed star. Fabulous drills. Made my game way better. Thanks for showing this. :)
Holy cow, man, you just keep bringing it. I hope I get a chance to meet you someday to thank you in person. THANK YOU. I will definitely be adding this drill the rotation. THANK YOU!
Always awesome content! Nice acknowledgement of Bert Kinister too. I remember as a younger pool player renting Kinister's VHS tapes from the Hawaiian Brians pro shop here in Hawaii and watching him instruct a young up and coming blond dude go through some drills LOL! Great memories, and timeless drills that will always produce results. Whenever younger players ask me who to look up on RU-vid for instruction, you're always at the top of my list. Knowledgeable and a great instructor; great job and congrats on your Hall Of Fame induction!
Niels, thanks for sharing this drill. I practiced it last week, and won a local 8ball doubles tournament a couple of days later. Two games were won on tight 8ball rail shots.
Gotta love the power of spin (english) to move the cue-ball. This is a good drill for my buds but they are busy people and don't have the time to practice. I will show them some of these shots and the overall drill and see what they think. Thanks Niels, The Terminator and you certainly are that. Other than The Killer and you know who I'm talking about, yours is the best avatar.
Niels you are the man! I always liked watching you play but after you started making these videos you quickly became my favorite pro! Congrats on the Hall of Fame! I really loved that video, what a great speech you gave! Best to you and your family! Cheers from northern California!
As simple as this looks, this is great practice for working a table. Burt Kinister was the first videos (VHS) I rented here in Northwest Indiana at our local video store. He lived in Chicago and I met him once. These are some of the toughest drill work I've ever done.
Niels, that was FUN! I'm a work in progress 486 and ran a rack of this. I don't normally do a lot of inside spin... this helps a TON. As you would say "it was powerful!" to my inside spin practice. I won't be able to make it to the Rio in Lost Wages in February, but perhaps I'll get a chance to make it to Mosconi. I would really like to meet you and thank you for all of the help your videos have given me. Hopefully, you'll be around as a player, commentator, spectator...
Thank you for the nice feedback!!! 🙏😀 It's a great drill so keep it going...😎 You might also like these 2 exercises: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PcaWh6pOze0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w9b98kAWO7E.html Feel free to check them out and enjoy your practice 🎱
Neils is my favorite player in the game today. What a great champion! I was so excited to see him get inducted into the hall of fame. Drives me crazy when he mentions Burt Kinnister. I played Burt 30 years ago at The Port in Portage Indiana. As I recall. He was quite an egotistical and arrogant guy. You know when they say how it is best you never meet your idols? I think Neils would be devastated. Nevertheless, what a great ambassador for the game that has come from some DVDs some Dutch kid got his hands on back in the day! Might be the only contribution Burt ever made. Good on him!
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen You are very welcome, sir. I really mean it. I am ashamed of our "champions" here in the States. You Europeans have us so out classed it's pitiful. Of all the great players you guys have, guys and gals, my money is on the Terminator. You look like you're beating people's asses, even when you are just sitting in the chair!
Jimmy Vito 'The Surgeon' Lang here, from Dallas, Texas. Niel, man I love 💖 all that I have learned from your Videos over the years. God bless you and yours Always!
I was practicing the shots and kept scratching on #2!! I have made diagrams of the 15 shots so I can follow them during practice. Thanks again@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen

I've watched this one a few times, and now I'm going down to the pool hall to put it into practice. As with all your drills, I know this is going to pay big dividends. Thanks, Niels!🙏
Awesome video. I really hope you make a series out of this and break down all the other components of the 6 & 9 pointed star patterns. I would pay for that 😁
Feel free to PM me for options!! 😃 I offer "Personal Player Reviews" where you record yourself and then I'll give you professional feedback!! You can get an idea of the concept by watching this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6VtPqpOIZTM.html All the best! Niels
This is one of the best drills I have tried. It really teaches you about tip position and stroke speed. I surprised my self by being to execute all of the shots successfully. I was following your stroke technique very carefully. I will be practicing this for a long timel. Just incredible! Thank you for this.

Excelente video tutorial Sr. Nels, tal vez el mejor trabajo para entrenar que he visto hasta el momento, bien ilustrado y muy bien explicado.... Saludos desde Venezuela
@Niels, can you please do a video on draw shot exercise, not power draw only, but controlled draw where you draw back different amounts and explain how you think of it, where you hit the ball, how much below center, speed of stroke, amount of follow through, etc. for each shot. Whatever you think makes for the amount of control of the draw stroke.
Glad you like them! I never understood how was the cue ball's reaction precisely after the shot from cushion. I was guessing the side spin and tip position and wished the good luck. This is the most thorough lesson I've ever seen. Thanks for the fantastic lesson.
Niels, I really appreciate all of the great drills, and I really respect you giving Bert a shout out as well. I have several of his videos, a couple of which you are in. I do have a question on tip position during competitive play. When you are evaluating the shot and you decide on your next position, then you get down on the ball, are you just "in the zone" and shoot the shot, or are you actively thinking during aiming "one tip above center and stun it across"?
Great question!! 😊😊 I've got the perfect video for you right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kbs6OCt_yMo.html Enjoy and let me know if it helped you out!!
This drill is way harder than it looks. I did it 20 minutes a day for a week and rarely got past five balls. The second week I got up to eight or nine balls. Now in the third week I am doing 10 or 12 with a high of 19. It’s a little harder on a 7 foot table with large side pockets like mine. Scratches are more of a threat. Also, I’ve found at least another 5-6 shots come up a lot that Niels didn’t mention, most likely because lesser players don’t have his precision. I’ve since added the yo-yo drill and skillful squares. Soon the up and down drill too. Really great stuff that teaches you a lot about angles and building/maintaining a good stroke.
I can't for the lofe of me manage to get the cue ball to "slide over" on shot four. Im hiting the cue ball where directed. Thanks so much for sharing all of this amazing knowledge! Love your channel
Literally practicing this right now. Keep getting too flat on the long rail when rolling the cueball up the table. Nice drill for recognizing those habits.
You are welcome! Thanks a lot David 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Did you know I just launched a PATREON site?? 😎 Feel free to have a look right here: www.patreon.com/terminatortips
Awesome stuff. Nils you know what i'm struggling most with, once i go to a diffrent table everything is diffrent my speed is off the rails have a diffrent path resulting in disaster positions. If you could show us any tricks how to learn a diffrent table as fast as possible before the day before the tournament starts when warming up.
Hi there! 😊😊 That's a strong request and I have a video for you already about old cloth vs new cloth! I'm sure you can learn lot of valuable things 🔥😎✔️ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w4YHMV4hs8I.html
Terminator I am your fan. I follow your posts with automatic translation and Turkish subtitles. Could you please add Turkish to the automatic translation section?
Great drill.!!! Question: what are some of the best drills for skill level 6 and 7 to get better and to start shooting like the pros? thank you for your videos!
Thank you Niels! Curious, why do so many of these drills use balls frozen to the rail? (this one, Yo Yo, going up and down controlling the inside of the table) 🙏
Good question! Because your shotmaking with balls frozen on the rail will improve dramatically, but feel free to ut them a hair off the rail and built it up from there 👌😀
Great drill. Just wondering why you go from 2 ball to 1 ball when 2 ball is last ball. First time I did the drill, I kept going 2 to 3 when 2 was last ball. Then I watched the video again.
Damn. Did a run of 60 the other day. Prior top was 19. I was shooting too high on the cue ball relative to the positions Niels showed. For example, 11 o'clock on the cue ball. I was shooting closer to a a tip and a half or even two tips above center, slightly to the left, and getting too close to the wing balls. Lowered my tip position and started getting the cueball above the wing balls and before the side pocket. One tip: Don't start out hitting the balls in order. Just hit in any order until you get the hang of it. Then hit the balls in order. Same thing for the skillful squares and similar drills.
He Niels!
Niels... We love You man. And always "like the way You work". But honestly, is there a subliminal intention being tested? Consider one request? Change the background noise, please. 🎖️Bottom line for us ole folks is a distraction from learning.
Hahaha there's no quick fix Stefan, but I can advise you to study this video as your match prep!! Enjoy and shoot straight 🔥🔥 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ln1lsbWEQSs.html
Thanks for lessons, Niels! Im struggling with finding my stances, how far should i stand and backhand movement due to equipments problems like table height and cue length, weight. Can you provide us some tips and exercises to fix that please?
Absolutely! I can recommend for you to work with my playlist called "Back to The Basics"!!! It's really great for all levels actually!! 🦾🦾 Please feel free to check it out here: ru-vid.com/group/PLzjzZn8Miek1gDQaNlkuB32AHRdwGZwJw

Please follow the explanation in the beginning. 😀👍 The 2 was the last ball on the table, 2 new random balls came back and you go from the 2 to the new lowest ball on the table.
Hi, the hit on the object ball is the same but it depends on the angle how thin or thick I have to hit it if that makes sense. Straight in would be very full hit but loads of angle would be a very thin hit. Hope this helps!
Perhaps this video can help you out? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vr8Fv1246C0.html Or maybe it's an idea to work on your bridge..? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KOldb1qNqvw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KOldb1qNqvw.html Enjoy!! 👊
Great drill but you're not always gonna have the object ball on the 2nd diamond so learning how different positions effect the shots is crucial. Like if the object ball is at diamond one its completely different I'd assume. Lots of practice and use variations.😮
