Cliff you are right about that area, My Parents grew up on farms about 12 miles south of the area. I heard my Dad and others talk about the Welch Mts, and they all said you did not want to be in them after dark back in the 20s and 30s. Some people disappeared.. It was I believed to be an area for illegal stills too.
My stomping grounds. Lol. I live here. The money rocks is near by. There's a trail off Gault road that will take you to the money rocks. There's a small cave there at the bottom. If traveling west on Gault rd, the last hill road on the left, park there and walk down the trail will take you to an old stone foundation with a really cool fireplace
Well, we live in the woods and sometimes there are some strange noises, especially at night. Foxes and raccoons can make the creepiest sounds...blood-curdling screams.
I never heard foxes very much, but late one afternoon I was sitting on a deer stand. Red Foxes from every direction started howling all at once. Soon they all stopped.
Great story, Woodsman. God has Blessed all animals with a greater sense in all their senses. That is why my dog can see much better that me, he can smell things I can’t smell, he can hear what I can’t hear. That horse in the forefront sensed something it was not used to seeing, hearing or smelling. It’s senses went into fight or flight mode. Perhaps a bear protecting it’s cubs?
There is many articles about the Buzzard clan or aka the buzzard gang. A family that did alot of bad things. Rumor has it some of the clans descendants still live on the welsh mountain. My grandfather was from that area. I remember him telling us kids growing up to stay away from the mountain.
I definitely think bigfoot may be here but so far I have not seen anything to prove it to me and I have spent a big part of my life outdoors, I have spent some time living in Washington state and I have heard a lot of interesting stories, there are some interesting stories from here in Texas too
You weren't far from my home. Shoulda stopped in for a beer. Just a tip- On Sunday afternoons during the summer the Lancshester Landfill has a viewing area which is open to the public. If it's clear you can see the tops of 2 buildings in Philadelphia.
up into the 1960s and early 70s people were told not to go into the mountains at night be cause of the folk who lived there. Historically the people of the Welsh Mountains were a mix of indian, scots Irish, and African Americans
I have read newspaper stories from that era about various things. When it comes to describing things that people had seen, their descriptions mostly seem to read like something from a storybook leaving you, the reader, to try and figure out just what they were trying to say or what they were talking about.
The lighthouse keeper is always trying to scare people away on Scooby Doo. The butler is always accusd of doing it. Elvis is still seen in places. This story sounds like folklore to me. But I love the old style formality of the language. Good story.
Hello cliff another one of your interesting stories about Bigfoot once again you have me thinking of all the different animals that it could have been how about a moose love your stories cliff especially the older ones until next time stay safe take care love from upstate New York😊
Fantastic story thanks. My first thought that farmers would def. Know all the area animals. Could be Bigfoot. No-one can prove it isn’t…love the Bigfoot stories. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care
Well, the horse acted up for a good reason. I'm not buying the homeless wild man in the woods idea, a lot of folks in 1880 did not bathe often so the horse would have been used to human odor bathed well or not. As you said most farmers would have known what made whatever tracks, Bobcat, fox, bear, deer and so on. So I'll stick to my standby guess as an escaped creature from a traveling circus, amusement animal side show, etc. 140 or more years ago they probably just moved on to the next city/town. Thinking the exposure to the elements would soon kill off whatever got away. They would not report it not wanting to be liable for any killing of livestock, chickens, etc. Chimpanzee, orangutan, large cat like animal ,something like that. I know it wasn't Bigfoot, he/she never existed. 🙈🙉🙊
Nothing is the woods we haven’t seen before. Stories are fun but thats all they are. Someone wood have had a clear picture on a game camera by now or hit one with a car. The forest of PA are not that vast. I live and hunt in them never seen a thing.
I don't think Bigfoot exist, but surly the closest that comes to Bigfoot is the black bear. Of course, back in the earlier times there was a lot more wildlife in the woods. For me, Bigfoot is Hocus, Pocus.
