I owe so much to Dr. Gerstner for His faithfulness. Our Lord used his 'Handouts' on Church History and Theology to encourage me to seminary and the ministry. Thank you, Lord, for your servant's faithfulness to you and your word!!

tragic tertullian.. ive relistened to this lecture many times. "unnecessary separation" is an important lesson to learn from history. imo *every* protestant ought desire to rejoin and be in union with church universal, and i have my opinion on where that is...

Cyprian no doubt was a brave man, but boring and pale as a theologian. His upperclass status and martyrdom no doubt created his long lasting fame. Augustine really was a muddlehead and a Churchianity-fetishist. He understood Paul better than most church fathers, but he remains a far lesser theologian than either Luther or Calvin.

@Christos Kyrios Of the latin theologians Tertullian is far more interesting. While greek writers such as Athanasius and Cyril again are more exciting to read than Augustine. Not saying Augustine is not hugely important historically, just saying he is a rather boring writer other than his very late works against Julian of Eclanum, here he actually flaunts his abilities.
