“Structural weakness”. Yes, they are called crumple zones. We’ve come a long way in auto safety since the 60’s and 70’s. The CyberTruck is like a Time Machine back. All that owners need to do is remove the seatbelts and the fuse for the airbags. That should be an option: Rigid steering column. Delete seatbelts. Delete airbags.

@geemy9675
@geemy9675 6 дней назад
@@Paul-li9hq li ion is not new but the technology has evolved a lot since the 90s. it's a bit like saying a modern car has a 4 stroke engine like a model T. modern cells hold 3-4x more energy for the same size/weight
@Paul-li9hq
@Paul-li9hq 6 дней назад
@geemy9675 as you have brought up the Model T Ford - let's use it for a comparison... The Model T had a front-mounted 177-cubic-inch (2.9 L) inline four-cylinder engine, producing 20 hp (15 kW), for a top speed of 42 mph A modern 3 litre ICE engine kicks out over 200bhp and is capable of well over 170mph if there is no factory-fitted limiter. That's evolution! The internal combustion engine is not new technology: but it has progressed and been refined over a period of 100 years to the point where it is unrecognisable from it's origin. The lithium-ion battery, in turn, has evolved a lot from it's origin, some 35 years ago: in that it has a radically higher energy density and is way less likely to bbq itself and does degrade much more slowly (but, sadly, it still does both of those things). I am fairly sure that another 30+ years of innovation and development will create EVs that are equally unrecognisable from what we see today, and those EVs *will* make ICE vehicles utterly redundant 👍
@geemy9675
@geemy9675 6 дней назад
@@Paul-li9hq my point is 4680 is not the best battery tech out there but it's far from 90's tech and I guess there is room for improvements. In case of cybertruck there is literally "room" to double the number of cell in the battery pack. the mystery is why would Tesla fill 1/3 of the truck bed when there is empty space under the floor... about modern engines, for fair comparison a NA 3l inline 4 doesn't exist nowadays but it could be easily over 200hp more like close to 300hp. turbo 2L inline 4 are way more common though and Mercedes makes up to 469hp with the M139I. but BRZ boxter is the is the most powerful NA 4 cylinder (although not inline) with 2.4L, 234hp and 140mph. with forced induction number of cylinders or displacement don't matter as much. mpg improvement isn't as big as power, BRZ has comparable mpg.with a model T, of course at higher speed and at almost twice the weight

"The fact that a RAM 2500 smashed into the back of a Cyber Truck and there was no damage to the Cyber Truck and the RAM was smashed in all the way at the front"... "It shows you the structural weakness of the RAM compared to the Cyber Truck". And you'd want to be in the Cyber Truck in a similar event, Sam? It's 2024, 52 years after Mercedes introduced to the world the concept of crumple zones via the W116 S class. It took a while to catch on, but by the 80's, just about every manufacturer had figured out that deformation zones in vehicles saved lives. The RAM performed as it should have. It slowed the rate of deceleration. The Cyber Truck death trap, by comparison, performed dismally. Perhaps Tesla could better inform its less than savvy customers by submitting their Cyber Truck for independent analysis to the NHTSA or the IIHS for crashworthiness testing. That would be much more appropriate than affixing a transfer to the window stating that the vehicle has not been tested. And what happened to the "exoskeleton", that Enron promised us? The engineering team must have missed the memo. That's what unibody construction looks like, but with glued on panels rather than welded on. $100k, you reckon? FFS.
@stewiesaidthat
@stewiesaidthat 8 дней назад
You don't have crumple zones in the rear of a truck. A truck is made for towing and hauling and it can't do that if it crumpled up under a load. Crumple zones are in the front to prevent rapid deceleration. Every manufacturer out there touts their 0 to 100 Acceleration factor. Always striving to get to the lowest possible Acceleration factor. The crumple zone doesn't know if it's encountered a brick wall or a stalled vehicle that can be pushed out of the way. It's designed to crumple on any impact.

There’s preserving the structural integrity of the vehicle ( CyberTruck) then there’s preserving the structural integrity of the passengers (Dodge truck, crumple zone, presumably). Now, if the CyberTruck has another way of preserving the passenger’s structural integrity then fine for ty m and the truck. There are also non-motor hit targets like humans and bicycles to consider as well for overall safety, and it may fail at that. On the plus side, seems likely it’s a good vehicle against “protesters” that decide you are a target.

The fasteners cannot hold the panels on. They are shearing off. Your final statement saying the cyber truck is safer than the Ram because it does no crumble is not entirely accurate. The Ram crumble zones adsorb energy of the impact. All you care about is the cab not crumbling. Because the panels are shearing off on the cyber truck and not crumpling I would worry the hood would shear off and go into the cab. I think the jury is out on how safe the cyber truck really is. Also is it unsafe for other drivers in a crash because it does not absorb the energy of a crash??? Do we really want people driver a tank on public roads

Okay first off I heard you say I'd want to be in the safer truck which is the Cyber truck. Let me just say this just because the truck can smash another truck doesn't mean it's the safer truck it means it weighs more and has no crumple Zone like normal vehicles were designed to have to protect their occupants and they all revolve around most vehicles besides commercial vehicles being waited close to the same so that they can hit each other and both parties can be safe but Tesla and other battery operated vehicles are so heavy and rigid that if you hit another normal safe car it will completely obliterated and that doesn't mean you're safe there's a good chance your neck will be snapped because it's so rigid as well as other injuries from whiplash I'm not trying to dunk on you but you have to do some research before you come out and say things like the Tesla cybertruck is the safer truck. Yes it's more rigid but imagine taking an army tank going 60 miles an hour and running into a cement wall do you think the occupants are still going to be just fine because the tank survived? It's not a war of my car can ram your car and still survive it's way more than that there's actually smart people behind most cars and for the past 20 years have created crumpled zones and regulations for safety but apparently since battery operated cars are so freaking important to the environment which that's a whole nother BS story we just gave up on caring about anybody else on the road. Do those analogies make any sense to you or anyone else. The other thing I think that could be going on in this video is that they could have used the jaws of life to try to get into the car and the body panels just popped off because the jaws of life are way more powerful than any type of automobile body panel their actual hydraulically driven tools. Do I know this for sure no but I am taking an educated guess at it. This is just the beginning wait till these cars start burning entire families inside of them or electrocuting people constantly
