Actually Kyle's knowledge of early electric vehicles is very limited. Older guys like me were driving electric since the 80's. Doing conversions and on the EVDL for the newest ideas of how to convert. Some making cars from scratch. All were DC back then with no regen. Kyle only got into it when the OEMs came out. That's the easy path. I do enjoy his coverage & videos. But we were all engineers and technicians.
@@shredmasI have to agree. He was definitely not an early adopter and most likely swinging in his dads balls when I was putting electric motors in cars. Regen? What was regen.
@@alexnutcasio936 I would actually spend hours designing a schematic where you could utilize regen in a DC system. It required a series of relays. But if one of those failed you would have a catastrophic short.
Love car museums and this one is just epic. If Kyle made a 5 hour video of The Petersen collection, I would watch it. It would be THE reference video for car lovers.
I'm glad you have your shit together with cars! This was a very great tour and you did an excellent job Kyle! Great work with the camera Alyssa thanks for taking us along
The inductive charging standard was Magne Charge and yes, it was J1773. Regarding the EV-1, there were in fact, a few that were sold, not leased. Some of the really, really early ones got sold and GM tried to undo those sales. I only know about it because the CEO of the company I worked for at the time was able to purchase his EV-1 -- and paid cash for it. He allowed the Blackhawk Museum to display it at one time. I don't know what happened to it after he suffered several strokes and passed away in 2017.
Excellent video, Kyle. It's on my bucket list next trip to LA. Hey! Starbucks sponsoring you with that great product placement at the beginning of each video? You need to pitch them, if not. ;-)
Simply incredible, Kyle. Something I’ll never be able to experience myself brought to me via YT through you’re expertise, kindness and generosity. A sincere 🙏🏻.
I went to the Tesla exhibit at the Petersen Auto museum. The exhibit was awesome. The underground exhibit he's walking thru is different than the Tesla exhibit and you must pay more to get into the underground vault of cars!
We were there the first week in February. Truly an amazing place and your use of "Epic" fits this place perfectly. It was our first long road trip in our 2023 Model Y LR from Reno to Solana Beach for our annual trip and I made sure to take the drive north to not miss this. Seeing it again was amazing and I was a little surprised that you didn't show the display of electric bikes they have there but there is so much to see and take in that an enthusiast can take several hours. Thanks for another great video!
Kyle, I don't understand your skepticism of the Cybertruck. You fawn over the Tesla motors, in-house factory design team, single castings, safety, battery efficiencsy and on and on. And yet, you don't know if they can build a full-sized electric pick-uo. The CT is sold out til' the end of the decade. Its' specs. are better than most gas trucks. It has a full-sized bed, unlike every other ev truck. The only question you should be asking is whether Tesla will build the Cyber Cross and Cyber SUV. If they do, and they hit, the margins and spped upon which they'll build them will place all legacy auto makers on life support.
Thanks Kyle! I love the Petersen! Anytime I'm in LA I spend a day in the museum. -- And agreed the Hispano Suiza Carmen is one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen. Even worse than a Corbin Sparrow.
Kyle, that blue car looks like a Consulier GTP, which was a pretty cool car. Much more impressive than the Vector of a similar era, IMHO. It became the Mosler later, and they used to advertise in Grassroots Motorsport Magazine.
I visited this place back in 2020, when they have to Tesla Roadster on display. I didn't know anything about the basement, so I kind of upset I didn't check it out. 😢
Here from Merriam Webster are some synonyms you can use instead of Epic. august baronial gallant glorious grand grandiose heroic heroical Homeric imperial imposing magnific magnificent majestic massive monumental noble proud regal royal splendid stately
I’ve wanted to go here for a while, but live too far away. What a fabulous video!!! P.s. I feel like that purple car towards the end (not even attempting to spell the name) was going for a retro future look. Lol. Curious what it looks like in not neon purple.
Fun fact: What really killed the electric car in the early 1900 wasn’t just that the model T was cheap, but that an electric starter were put on car. Now no one would ever get their shoulder thrown out of joint because of backlash.
Very informative and entertaining. As I am not planning a visit to LA anytime soon this was a way to visit the Peterson collection with the Tesla display for free! Thanks for sharing.
I'd like to see you get a CyberTruck so we can get your detailed overview videos of the vehicle as you did when the R1T came out. I'd also like to see some comparison videos of it to the R1T. Would love to see you do some roadtrips in it on Out of Spec Motoring as well to see how it does in a long haul drive.
Kyle. Tesla doesn't quite have the full system..... Yet. Wait for a house. With cooling. Tesla communications (Starlink) Then the power systems and vehicles.
Kyle - PM me and I can help to educate you on Space X, Falcon 9, Heavy and Starship. I follow these things religiously and would be happy to share my knowledge. A few of your comments regarding the recent Starship launch were inaccurate in this video.
So glad that I clicked this video out of a screen full of recommendations from youtube. Thanks to Kyle, I will definitely make time to visit the museum next time I am in LA. I am truly amazed by Kyle's automotive knowledge both depth and breadth. Also he is definitely a Tesla fanboy but for very good reasons!
Great video I just hope Tesla takes the time to get the Cybertruck right. SO MUCH anticipation it would be a shame if they underperformed on mileage or power. The truck will be a hit out of the box but if they get this right the Cybertruck will be the next F150.
New drinking game. (Especially for his main ACT walk through video.) Take a sip of your raspberry acai every time he says epic. You'll finish 3 before he finishes his!
Last time I toured the Vault at Petersen we were not allowed to take pictures and were even warned not to put our hands in our pockets lest we suddenly pull out a phone. They had a guy in addition to the guide constantly scanning the group ready to expel any violators. It was unnerving and we all agreed never return to this museum. It felt like being in prison for an hour.
I can say with a pretty high degree of confidence that Tesla will make a RWD , 200 mile range Cybertruck with a CATL battery. Why wouldnt they? The demand will be HUGE, and with the CATL battery the profit margins will be huge as well. Probably about $60k for that model would be about right. Im predicting the tri motor with 500 mile range will cost $110-120k.
