Legacy is no great loss, it had to compete in car form against the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry, that is a tough neighborhood. Plus its dealers are lazy and not aggressive.

Dealers lazy? All depends on the city and company... a lot are not needed and should only be official repair centers for brands. Basically dumping all sales online.. and have test drives still, but not giant lots of wasted space and money

The EQS isn't more than the S-Class, so there's no reason for the EQG to have a big sticker premium provided they make enough to amortize their costs. Motors are cheap.

The one reason I can think of why sedans are selling less and less is that ICE has hit its limit. Over the past 20 years, the average, not high end or sporty, have not gotten faster or improved its fuel mileage.

that is not true a na 4 cylinder today nearly as powerful as a na v6 20 years ago and has improved from low 30s mpg to high 30s mpg and the cars go bigger since than. Cars have also got bigger, a newer civic is nearly the same size as the old accord for example

@@JD-yx7be Thanks for making my case. The acceleration is similar but not improved in the past 20 years. The mileage is dismal improvement for 20 years. Look at the Model S sedan, 2012 to 2021, 50 improvement in range, 0-60 cut in half, 4.4 to 2.2 sec, not just a 2.2 sec improvement but halved.

If Autoline had paid attention they'd have known there were good reasons for Tesla inventory build--one off disruptions like arson, Red Sea war in particular. Couple weeks here, couple there and supply chains and deliveries get FUBARED.

SO MUCH THIS At first I laughed. Then O talked about it w/my high end dev partner and he agrees that to run on that chip the tech must be working at an extremely low level. The limited amount of data it can collect and store and output is paltry. Might as well glue some flip phones and AirTags to these “new” vehicles.

I wonder what ANCAP will think of the central driver position in the Tesla Semi. The major concern will be the inability for the driver to judge the vehicle position relative to oncoming traffic on narrow roads, which is the main reason why drivers are normally positioned closer to the center of the road. Once ANCAP start setting standards on driver visibility and safety, I think the Tesla Semi will be rated poorly with it's design ethos of "ignore 100 years of iterative develop just to be different".

Might be a while before the Tesla Semi goes to Europe, also the standard cab's are shorter in Europe so it may have to be redesighed anyway. Perhaps self driving semi's could even be a thing by then. "ignore 100 years of iterative develop just to be different" don't forget what Dyson did to the vacum cleaner.

I believe that you misrepresented the 3% and 15% percent regarding vehicles on the road compared with trucks and associated deaths. Why not give us deaths per million miles-km, driven? This figure, as trucks do massive mileage, would be vastly different from what you quoted, if the statistics 📉were presented correctly.

When Tesla makes great strides in innovation, other makers need to change their existing lines. But it also means old Tesla assembly lines need to adapt by adopting the innovation. That can get expensive, which is why the phrase sunk costs is so common these days. If unboxed is such a good idea, it would work on the Model S. Not just the new model.

Could be that running those big die casting parts aren't as easy as Elon thought. It doesn't take much to put the process out of commission. Servicing anything that big is far from easy. Shutting the whole line down for days if not longer.

@@michaeloreilly657 There's no end of model life on these (yet), just constant iterations and improvements under the hood. A "2012" Model S is completely different from a "2022" Model S, despite similar outside appearances. Much better product in many ways than its predecessor. And I put that in parenthesis because they don't technically follow model years, they don't wait on making improvements, multiple changes can happen within a single week. In other words "Agile" development applied to manufacturing.

If Toyota put the V6 in their AWD Camry, they would capture all those Legacy buyers, and the AWD Camry would be a no-brainer. I bought a Legacy 3.6R because the other options were so pathetically under-powered, and the Outback was terrible as a car.

Then again, the Model Y is the best selling car worldwide (against ICE, Hybrids, and EVs). Seems most realize Tesla has the best product and value. If you buy a car as an investment to resell in a year, you're going to take a bath no matter who's car it is. Not sure $2K is a drastic price reduction either. I see far bigger "fire sales" at legacy automakers every day.

@@tesla_tap Price cuts in the Model Y over the past year have totaled at least $7000. For purposes of resale, this is in addition to the normal hit that new car buyers can expect to receive. I am a 2023 Model Y owner who has seen a 30% reduction in the value of my car in just one year. Car dealers don’t want to touch Teslas for trade-in because of the prospect of even more price cuts as Tesla struggled to clear its inventory.

If you know you know. Tesla's competitive advantages keep growing, we see it in legacies retreating to hybrids for example. Apparently even some in "short-termist" Wallstreet may be starting to see that bigger picture. Or maybe not, I don't put much stock in the myopic culture of WS suits, either way it's nice to see Tesla starting to flex the autonomy and energy sides of the business during a difficult time that the auto market is going through. I wonder who this upcoming undisclosed licensee of Tesla's FSD will be soon... my bet is on Ford being the first one, based on current moves they're making.

Nobody has ever bought a G wagon for its efficiency. RIP the Legacy as I had the first generation, but that is also Tesla's problem. Most in America don't want a sedan/hatchback and Tesla would unavoidably reach a saturation point for its models. And the so called robotaxi will never appear until they figure out that camera-only is their limiting factor. Elon hasn't figured that out yet and the engineers won't tell him because the baby would fire them.

@@ethanwelner1230 The model 3 RWD today is $39 cash. Prior to losing the Tax credit for US made batteries a base Model 3 started at $32,880 including the tax credit. It will get to $35. What you should notice is that Tesla is driving new car prices down. I get the feeling that Elon wants to produce the roadster but the BOD is saying when.,

Lots of EVs could get down to that price with credits and if i was just counting any discount possible I could count used. Or stolen. He promised 35k and he didn't deliver. Am I supposed to be impressed that he's pretending he can get it down to "lower prices" now? With 0 evidence?

Musk is the best showman since PT Barnum. He told the EV charging world the sky is falling---so they are ( or will) converting to his NACS plug. Now he will slowly increase subscription rates to use his chargers, sell your data, pro-rate charging rates etc----cars are yesterday-----charging is $$$$

I did listen to Musks response to Teslas poor 1st quarter performance and his plan to increase sales and profits over the next two years. The Tesla cupboard is bare but the Musk/Tesla pumper channels are working over time to obfuscate the lack of substance and it appears it has had an effect albeit a short term one.

Tesla is now just a meme stock. Next quarter will be no better. The prime demographic of EV buyers, especially Tesla buyers, are young professionals who work in tech. Well that group is being laid off en masse, so Tesla sales will undoubtably continue to take a hit. So what promises will Elon make next Quarterly earnings meets?

Model Y plus Model 3 for 2023 add up to something like 1.7 million. The Model Y was the large majority of this. So over one million sold. Who tops this with a single model?? Note, Corolla crossover SUV has a different body, so not the same model as Corolla sedan. If you combine the Corolla sedan and crossover numbers, the correct comparison would be to combined Model Y and Model 3 sales.

Elon Musk, like a spent military commander, has forgotten all the lessons of his early successes. Musk and Tesla simply didn't anticipate the enormity of burgeoning demand for EVs and thus failed to make the necessary investments to fully capitalise on that demand. Instead of scaling the advanced infrastructure necessary to produce higher quality and cheaper EVs in great volumes while ahead of the game, Musk frittered away Tesla's early lead over extraneous distractions (Twitter/X) and worries (misgivings about the state of the economy). Musk's realisation of the need for extreme scaling came late and belatedly and even now he doesn't seem fully focused on the job before him. Musk should look to the Chinese EV manufacturers for guidance on the moves he needs to make next.
