Tesla Model 3 AC Compressor Replacement

This is a video documenting the changing of a Tesla Model 3 AC Compressor on a mid 2018 vehicle. I replace the air conditioning compressor and recharge the ac system with R134A.
The amount of OIL in the Compressor is 40ml
The Oil used is Ester Based (Non conductive as the compressor has submersed electric coils)
The volume of refrigerant is:
2008 Model 3: 660g (min:640, max:680)
Newer Model 3: 1020g
*Always check the manual, its FREE!
A few points:
1. I realize that the general parlance for heat pump is NOT what is installed on my vehicle, however an AC compressor is a heat pump.
2. Liquid to Gas (Evaporation) is Endothermic. This happens in the evaporator.
3. Gas to Liquid (Compression) is Exothermic. This happens in the condenser.
4. You can get the Tesla service manuals for Free at service.tesla.com. You should use them.

Just replaced my compressor and followed your video step by step. Simply Awesome. If it weren’t for your video I would have been paying Tesla $2500. Instead it was $500 including the compressor and parts needed. Can’t thank you enough. Keep up the great videos.

I really appreciate this video, when you were filling it up I heard a buzzing noise, I wouldn’t think a new compressor would do that, mine was completely quiet for 4 years before making that noise so I’m thinking it’s going bad but your new one is doing that.

Very useful video. Thank you. I have a question. I can see that you charged refrigerant thought low pressure line with liquid. I Use to charge refrigerant thought low pressure line with gas to protect the compressor. Please, tell me if we can charge refrigerant through low pressure line with gas instead or liquid. I think is is more safe for the compressor. Thank you.

I had some loud sound when I turn 7-8-9 speed after that AC Stop working period. Tesla quote me $1575 I want to buy new compressor but I need to know with model? Anyone knows

mine starts for about 15 seconds and then stops. shows me isolation error and I have to restart cycle the car in order to drive again. is this similar to your problem before replacing the compressor?

Looks like he just disconnected the 12v line, from the HV battery, to the frunk accessories that use it. Not the HV to the rest of the car.

Not an A/C expert, but I trust that there is a high and low for a reason.

So replaced cabin air filters with hepa ones, 4 hours later got the vcfront a447. When into service mode and compressor shows fault vcfront a161. Being quoted $700 for new compressor and ac assembly line to supermanifold but the labor for 2.64 hours is at $554 Is this something I should just tackle myself. No ac or heat in Florida summer right now. Any experience with that a161 code

Heat pumps still use a compressor, yes.

@teslafusion74no it definitely still has power on the line. But as soon as you disconnect 12v or remove the HVIL line. It stops high voltage to all loads

@@trent_carter so the a/c compressor does indeed run on high voltage. In Teslas it's a 400v architecture but in 800v architecture the compressor would be 800v
