Autogefuhl the only car channel that reviews the sound system and puts a camera behind the drivers shoulder so we can see the cockpit while driving. Thank you!
this reviews remind me of the old top gear in the beginning. when they were really reviewing real world cars like opels/vw/Ford that normal people would like to get.

21:10 My Model 3 is from September 2020, so pre-facelift and without a heat pump. I think we were caught in the same snowstorm this winter (I'm in The Netherlands) and the consumption on my car ranged from 18kWh to 20kWh per 100km of normal driving. The difference in energy losses is not negligible if you had 17kWh. Thanks for another great review that covers both the good and the bad on Teslas. This requires lots of knowledge, experience hard work and the right approach to reviewing, especially if you don't own one.
This review is perfect! Compare the older one with this one regarding the user interface and you see why Tesla is absolutely dominant in the EV market. The improvements in just one year are unbelievable and the best of it: my Model 3 delivered in March 2019 got updated to the exact same software version and I have all the improvements too, never before I had such an experience with a car! Little note, v2 chargers are still capped at ~120kw; v3 goes to 250kw. Great review!
Always Love theses reviews, in depth reviews and non biased, just good journalism , always honest about issues, its good to see a gradual improvement from Tesla , the classic mainstream manufacturers really need to up their game on the technology front to keep up with Tesla , Tesla are catching up with build quality ( slowly) although I do wish they would redesign the exterior a bit more, whilst it isn't ugly I just find them a little bland, just a few more aggressive accents may set it aside from the rest !
I love the white interior in my (blue ;) ) Model 3. After 2 years and nearly 50000km still like new, it cleans very easily! Still love the car as much as I first picked it up. The updates do look nice, I must say.
Next time please use the v3 Supercharger. it's the one with only ONE cable. And no...with v3 you don't share the speed with other cars anymore. You always get the full 250kW
You drove to Hilden but charged on the old V2 Supercharger stations they have set up there for Model S. The new V3 Superchargers have only one cable and charge faster ;-)
Exactly. Had the same thoughts. But the temperature might have more influence on the low charging speed. A preheated battery with v3 should receive 240-250 kW.
20:00 Another use scenario for winter conditions is the "scheduled depart" option where you can pre-heat the car before you start driving. It should be a more efficient way. Those of us who can charge at home also suffer less from higher consumption in the first 15 minutes of winter driving. Regenerative braking also performs better in the winter when the car is preheated. Using seat heating also helps reduce consumption.
A note on the phone key. For the Model 3 and Model Y (and the new Model S and Model X coming out soon) you do not need a cell signal for your phone or the car for the key to work. The connection is direct Bluetooth between the phone and the car. For older Model S and X you do need a signal since the cars communicate with the phone via Tesla servers. Keeping the key card with you as a backup is always a good idea though, especially if your phone battery dies!
My 2022 model 3 performance is coming in a couple of weeks from Shanghai and I absolutley love your videos. Your voice is so relaxing. I enjoy all the technical details and you present them in the best way possible. Keep up the amazing work. How would you rate the interior quality of the lastest builds compared to say a vw golf? To me the soft surfaces and lastest material quality seems very very good. Thank you.
Regarding the lack of comfort in the suspension which you mention, take into consideration that -9 deg. Celsius makes both the tires, springs and dampers harder. That combined with hard ice on the road will impact the comfort negatively in virtually any car.
thanks for the detailed look. i love the interior of the model 3, although i agree that it needs a heads up display. as for the exterior, i still think it looks bland, but it wouldnt be a deal-breaker for me, unlike the model x exterior looks.
Only regions that get amber at the rear have the short turn signal strip. Otherwise the entire section acts as brake light/signal. Also note that on later ‘21 production facelift models, the dash trim flows into the door sides.
@@reventonrowe6111NP, it's also unfortunate that feature is not an easy retrofit... can't just stick on the extra trim since the entire door cards are different.
Thomas, you really nailed it. After having driven the model 3 I agree with 99 percent of what you said. good efficiency, excellent software, good acceleration, vegan interior. on the other hand no blind spot monitor, no head up display, no ambiant light, no adaptive suspension, only one screen in the middle, rather large turning circle, loud at higher speed All in all, good software, poor hardware, the competitors are catching up.
I would gladly pay an extra $3k to remedy all those issues. I mean it's already at $75k CAD ppl buying this car are probably not comparing with $30k honda civics
I respect Tesla as a company and appreciate the innovations they have help push forward but they need to work on the driver displays. Hate the large screen and lack of physical controls. The new Audi E-Tron GT interestingly seems to have struck the perfect balance of screens and controls.
I don’t need the head ups display. Once you get used to it, it does not matter. For me, the software updates, better software and technology is better than anything else. It does have blind spot monitor, just on the screen. I think it’s fine actually but everyone has different tastes. I do think they should have at least some door pocket lights or more ambient lights but it’s actually quite nice the way it is
Just a great vehicle from speed, comfort and technology (have a September 2020 LR model 3). Awesome review as usual. Straight to the point about everything.
jeah, nice!those red-dark colours ...by the way,Thomas and the whole Autogefuel team-"happy Valentine"s Day"...thanks for the "winter test"...Greetings from Hrvatska.P.S.not good that you can have those great ambient interior light in the car,for example like those in the new Seat Leon st cupra model...or in the Mercedes E class....
Fantastic review as you are very knowledgeable about cars. Thank you for spending the time to do these car tests. Your English is top class, and your comparison to the German makes is most welcome.
For personal preference on looks I want the blue exterior with white interior, but for practicality and second hand value, white exterior with black interior. Tow bar is also a must have option.
@@norbertmachaj6127 it's a good car, but there are so many build quality problems I would not like to buy it because of this. Lease makes sense if you like it.
00:00 Intro 00:33 Exterior 05:02 Charging and range 07:41 Interior 12:14 Infotainment system 15:36 Back seat 17:08 Trunk and frunk 19:02 Driving 49:21 Conclusion
They should add a port in front of the driver where you can plug in a HUD, Tesla's are not the only car with the Speedo on the centre but I'm not a fan.
The charging is still the minus of the electric cars. We have the power, the torque, the range, but the charging is still slow even if it's "only" 1 hour. BUT. Only if you have to charge during the travel or if you don't have the charger on the parking lot next to your house or work. The problem is basically gone if you have a garage.
Nice review. I drove a 2021 Model Dual Motor three weeks ago. Much butter than the former models, but at the end I was not convinced. Performance, much more than I need. Very efficient, cheap. Looks better in real life than in the video. Steering, a bit too stiff for me. Komfort, ok, but not very good. Clarity very bad, espacially to the rear. Seats, i do not like the feeling. Back seats, like you says, bad, not for adults. The frameless windows rattle. And i do not like one pedal driving and the controls with the one monitor. I choose a more "classic" EV.
I have the same vehicle in Midnight Silver. Suspension is tuned to firm sports car standards and is just too firm for many people. I wouldn't mind it on the performance model but the two lower end models should definitely have more compliant springs. That said, I still love the car and ride. I've been in sports cars most of my life so it's not a big deal for me. In normal driving on decent roads, the car is smooth and quiet. My favorite attributes of the 3 are the little things. Walking away from a car as it locks up, coming to a stop in traffic with no creep, superchargers. I'm in a special vehicle!
@@molepatrol7529 it just depends on how sensitive you are. I’ve had the 19s for over a year and they’re totally fine. Look way better than the 18s too.
I find that even with 18” wheels with reduces air pressure is too harsh. That’s the main factor preventing me from getting a Tesla. Comfort is more important than sport to me.
@@mart0225 I completely agree and this is one of the main complain of the M3 unfortunately. Also due to the fact that the Tesla M3 has one of the shortest suspension travel in its category.
Really like the new S facelift, but the 3 is alright too. Only thing I don't like about the 3 is the sedan boot and lack of driver's display, otherwise quite a solid car for the price
There is ambient lighting in the foot wells and all 4 door pockets. You can adjust the brightness of it too, but not the color. ;) aftermarket has tons of stuff for that.
As an owner of a red Model 3 Dual Motor for almost 2 years now in Switzerland, I'm surprised you didn't test the car's ability on snow - not just cruising Autobahns with snow on the hard shoulder, but try to get up steep snow-covered hills and minor roads. These situations are very important in all-round winter driving. I have found the Tesla remarkably good in such situations. Also, the traction control is excellent. Try flooring it and instead of a rocket launch as in the dry, on snow the Model 3 simply pulls away without fuss...
Congrats for all reviews and hope to have an 2021 fantastic! there any chance to have a review in the future with a renault megane 4 RS line 1.33 TCE 160 HP EDC(facelift) all the best
It feels incredibly natural once you try driving a Model 3. My father owns a white Model 3 and I've driven it probably 5 times, but I got used to it the second time I drove it. Yes, it's 100% legal.
You referred to loosing signal in the basement so you would have to use key card. Phone/car communication works off of bluetooth not cellular signal. Geographical location should not have any effect on it.
Great unbiased review, as usual. It‘s a very interesting car, but nothing for me for two reasons. I agree with you on the seats. As a tall driver, Tesla has some of the most uncomfortable seats for me, especially regarding the headrest. There needs to be a better variable headrest. Also, I can‘t get myself to accept the fact, that there‘s no information in front of me. As I‘m used to drive with a head-up display now, the model 3 would be a huge downstep for me regarding driving experience. But if Tesla continues to improve, I might buy one of their cars one day.
@@mrlimey2419 agreed. I’ve had many BMWs, many with the heads up display. I also thought it was something I’d miss when I first got a Tesla. Three Teslas later and I don’t even give heads up displays a second thought. I also couldn’t go back to BMW.
I‘m 1.93 and sit very comfortably in the Model 3 seats. The pleather is amazing and the seat heating is quite comfortable. It should not be a dealbreaker :)
@@mrlimey2419 Yeah, it’s actually nicer and more comfortable for me, the driver to have less screens to look at. Just one screen to rule it all. You have to look down to see the speed in most cars anyways, not that different from looking slightly to the side.
If you‘re satisfied, great for you guys. Doesn‘t mean I need to be satisfied. For you, the seats are ok? Great. But body ratios are different and I‘m 1,98m. So the seats are not necessarily great for me. If buying a car would be about what I need, I‘d drive my current car until it becomes to expensive to fix and then I’d buy a Renault Zoe or something similar. A Model 3 costs way more than a car „I need“ costs. That‘s why it‘s not about what I need, but what I want for the price. And why should I take a Model 3, if other brands offer what I want?
Very nice video . I am in process of finalizing between hybrid car . I am fan of your detailed review ..Which one you recommended MERC E Combi hybrid or Volvo V60 or Audi A6
Tesla should consider removing some battery cells to allow deeper foot-wells for rear passengers, as other BEVs are offering now. With so much range, and newer more dense cells on the way, it could be a worthwhile trade-off.
I've noticed that in the US the Model 3 turn indicator lights are just as tiny, except they are red instead of amber. In the US, turn indicators are allowed to be red or amber. I wonder if it's a hardware difference on the US Model 3 or just software. I prefer amber, so it would be nice to be able to switch to amber if I get one.
would you go for a new tesla model 3 LR or a used volvo v90? (2017 model) not sure if paying more for a new tesla is worth it. (have one ordered to save the date because of eu control soon, but a used cheaper v90 looks nice too)
You said that you’d need to use the key card in a basement garage. Is that the case? I figured the app just needed a “local” Bluetooth connection to unlock the car (phone to car)… does it really need cellular data / cloud contact to use the phone as a key?
I don’t understand why there are so many RU-vid videos with the subtitle referring to a FACELIFT, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 they all look the same, except the 2021 has futures like the chrome delete, the heat pump and the automatic trunk, so what’s the facelift?
The interior can only be judged live, when you realize how powerful that central computer is. So i perceive the interior as a dialogue between you ( driver ) and the computer ( screen). Once you understand that, the other cars feel outdated.
Exactly. I’m fine giving up slightly nicer interior appointments so long as the interface is as awesome as Tesla’s. The other competitors almost definitely will not have the same level of software updates either.
I'm with you. Most people still think that a smartphone is a kind of phone. And think that all these toggles, buttons, dials are for "operating" the car. Tesla is clear fun for driving without the hassle and the screen is for entertainment. Operating the car is a secondary function - as calling is in a smartphone.
@Antonio Zamudio would never consider that. Charging infrastructure doesn’t match Tesla, range is abysmal compared to Tesla, user interface not as great and not updated as much. Tough to beat Tesla if all that’s better is certain interior elements.
Great looking car, but after so many years it 'does' look conservative. I would go so far to say it is dated, specifically compared to some other EVs, I am hoping for a general design update next iteration that goes a bit further than chrome to black matte highlights. As always great review guys!
It's just a bit too restrained. I think if the designers can massage the exterior design a bit while keeping the same overall look, while adding a more appointed interior would make this care all the much better.
Two reasons - it's designed in a minimalistic way and, you are just used to it. But the design is still more modern than current e-trons, BMW iXs, and especially EQs. These cars look more like old-fashioned ICE cars but with a new steampunk or art-deco touch. Look at e-trons with all these fake facias, and vents, many crises, and decors like from US cars from the 60s. The ICE silhouette and decor means that e-trons are so heavy and have so poor efficiency. Taycan has even the copper trim inside for this steampunk look. Outside Taycan is very modern, but the inside is like from last century with myriads of knobs, levers, buttons, and 4 (yes, four) small screens (no entertainment). I would like to see the new T M3 just for fun, but at the moment I prefer the engineering and price first.
i dont like glass roof without any shade, i dont like the wheels design, and i would like to see some alcantara/cloth seats.... leather or fake leather is almost the same from the climate point of view.... is frunk drained....? can it be used as a wet frunk?
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nP_CvLlaFlI.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tkjCAmq1_8E.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette. Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
The "micro" rear indicators are simply a joke !! probably those can be seen better by night than during the day... or maybe the target driver of this car, never uses the turning indicators (lol)
