desember 2017 i took delivery of a new Model S75D. Smal issues, but very good service. Very happy. Great car. Cost me 110 BP in electricity last 12 months/ 25000km. 90% home charging. 400v 24A.
We have a lot to thank people like you who stepped in early and purchased a Model S. without people like you there would be no Model 3 or Y. Glad to hear you are still happy with the car.
Liked your comment about the Kona’s adaptive cruise control. I have a Ioniq and when it’s in cruise control, I keep my right thumb on the cancel button for those “oh my god we’re going to crash so I’m going to emergency brake” moments. Thank you for watching. I'm sure you will love your Model 3. Emergency avoidance systems are a dumb idea for the majority of drivers I think as they can't adapt to our busy roads, narrow roads and street parking.

Great review. Very engaging. The balance of range and performance is excellent. I suspect I just wouldn't have got as competitive a PCH deal for a Tesla Model 3 as a new Kona EV. I had a look £540pm incl. VAT for business contract hire. That's including £3k up front. The Kona involved 1 month up front on PCH and £378pm. Do love the Tesla performance of course just outside my budget at the moment!

@@varinderrehal3214 Take the plunge for electric. It's never as difficult as many have you believe. Tesla SuperCharging is excellent, if you can charge at home then even better. Arrive home, plug it in, in the morning it's charged. No more visits to the petrol station on the way to or home from work. Seriously once you have one you will wonder why you didn't change before now.

Great video John - essential viewing for any potential owner I think. I don’t realise the wheel size affected the efficiency so much. Of course Tesla do a PDI. I’ve seen the document they follow. It states “Ensure there are four wheels.” My 2300 miles has cost...£1.82 courtesy of the free rapid chargers here in Northumberland. I find it frustrating that for all the advanced tech, they still get the basics wrong. Speed limit signs are improving but still not as good as my previous E Class. Want to open the glovebox while watching RU-vid? - can’t do it - voice commands don’t work when watching YT. Because they use a foreign ISP we get foreign ads in YT and can’t watch iPlayer. Full track information is missing when listening to the radio. Of course all of these are minor but so easily fixable. The thing that concerns me the most is the number of owners experiencing sudden, unexpected braking while on Autopilot on motorways. That has potential to be lethal. Overall though - I’m happy with my LR. I think Tesla have to up their game on build quality and support. Polestar, VW, Skoda have all got great cars coming and not everyone needs Superchargers which is the USP for Tesla.

It's the small things as you say, but they are an annoyance if you try and use them regularly. Thanks for the additional items that I wasn't aware of as I never use them. It will be interesting to see the impact (excuse the pun) on phantom braking once they realise the 4D update I was talking about. That should improve things I hope. Tesla may be leading the charge, (on my more humour), however the general public will go and check out the more traditional household names as they are more familiar and comfortable with those brands. The next 3 - 5 years will be an interesting market.
Excellent and informative video - thanks. Most people would regard the Model 3 as an expensive car and depreciation potentially a significant cost. I'm in the position of being able to afford a Model 3 but not so much that I wouldn't worry if it's value declined more than other cars. Looking at resale values, the opposite seems to be case - Model 3s retain their value better than most cars. I'm interested in thoughts on depreciation.
Thanks Chris. Agree 100% on depreciation values. I'm surprised that even with the Model Y hitting our shores that the 3's have held their value. The secondhand car market across the board has been very buoyant over the past 12 months or so. However, EVs still perform very well on holding their residual with Teslas being amongst the best.
Great video on your thoughts, thanks. We've had our TM3 LR (19" sport wheels) for 60 days now, we've done 1643 miles and are averaging 265 Wh/mile or 3.9 miles/kWh. We have charged 42 times, 33 at home (granny cable🙂/ solar and PW ), 7 public free vend and 2 paid SC (£16.43) , so far it's working out at £0.01/mile. (That will go up as winter is on its way and the 'free vend' 22 kW chargers I've been using around town have started charging from 5th October 2020). Fuel costs for that mileage in our old petrol car would have cost around £250 (£0.15/mile)
People like to see and understand the costs and comparisons with what they know. Most people ask how much does it cost to charge, how does that compare to a petrol/diesel car in fuel. If your an EV advocate then perhaps it's less relevant, however we're still the minority. It's the majority we need to inform, educate and explain things to - hence mentioning the fuel savings. We have a 1957 Chevy with a 6.6 litre V8, that's our toy. Where ever we go people ask, how many miles does it do to the gallon, what's it's top speed, how much does it cost to insure and so on.
It’s a hard one sometimes. I want a Tesla 3 LR, however when you compare the full 48 month costs (for me) including purchase prices against a new Audi S3, there is hardly any difference between them, BUT I would still say the Tesla servicing charges would definitely work out cheaper over those 4 years worth of costs. Then you’re going Green and where I live a bus lanes I could drive in with an EV. lol. Overall for me - I would still buy the Tesla. I’m a gadget mad person anyway so that massive screen in the Tesla, awesome stereo, iPhone app’s, etc would suit me down to the ground. Thanks for sharing your costs, that helps me a lot 😃👍🏻

If you're into cadets and tech then the Tesla wins hands down over any current production car. And don't forget the frequent over the air free software and firmware upgrades which continue to add new features and improve existing ones. You are not buying yesterday's tech. I have the LR with performance boost and would love to be able to change from chill to sport with a single press on the screen, it’s annoying if you do it via profiles as that keeps changing the HVAC settings, Traffic announcements on the radio would also be welcome.

On a bright sunny day I trickle charge Tez to balance the batteries a bit- we only have 8 solar panels so can’t generate more than 2.2 Kw/h so we can quickly drain PW if not careful - thinking of getting more solar panels - just got rid of our gas cooker!!

Absolutely expect a proper PDI. For a 50k car I don’t want to repeatedly book a car into a centre which may be further than 25 miles away. This would save you having to check it with a fine tooth comb. I’m not an expert and may miss things on the first trawl. Business model is just short term get it out there and hope they get away with it because of demand.
It will be interesting to see what happens once brand new manufactures start supplying to see how the impacts Tesla sales and demand. From 2009 to today they have grown year on year so demand is high with that demand I don't think they will change. It's worth noting that we only see the complaints and not the thousands of cars that are delivered with no issues. The focus on quality is therefore perhaps slightly skewed. Time will tell.

I can understand that, the Stats app and TeslaFi both need your user credentials. It's a choice between security and convenience. I've not heard of any issues or security breaches with either company, but never say never. I'm not sure what the worst that could happen if your details were compromised. A change of password is the quick way to resolve it along with additional security features like Pin to Drive if the would be criminal arrives at your car. The Tesla is not a car that is stolen very often, mainly because they are so easy to track!
@@johntisbury with your Tesla account they can bypass pin to drive (with remote start) they can also purchase stuff using your card on file. But yes I've not seen any breaches for teslafi. Also looking at teslamate as that's hosted locally so no possibility of the credentials going astray.
John Tisbury a brief thought on your phantom power drain issues you mentioned in another of your brilliant posts. Are you aware of power factor correction? By that I mean, in capacitive circuits current leads voltage. And in inductive circuits, voltage leads current. Power is the product of voltage multiplied by current, but this is only accurate at a power factor of 1. Could it be that your power wall (an inherently capacitive device) is shifting your PF? A way to investigate this could be to use some inductive devices (anything with a coil in it), to maybe shift the PF back towards 1? Just an idea that popped into my ‘wonky’ mind.

Exciting times Michael. The company I used no longer exist as the owners retired when covid struck. Cost was £4,500 for the whole car, however, 18 months on and there's not a scratch on the car, especially in the prone areas like the bonnet, front bumper and sills.
Very informative video! Trying to do the justification to change my current diesel car for one of these but want to crunch the numbers first... How is it that you get electric for 5p per Kwh? My cost in Yorkshire is nearly 3 times that amount!

If you don't the charing cable won't reach and you have to do the walk of shame and get back in the car and reverse again. Enjoy your car when you get it.
nice numbers....although to be completely fair in the comparison, maybe remove the 75% of charging via solar (and potentially include home charging to include the daytime unit rate, as you might not get all your overnight charging completed between 00:30-04:30, or factor in the cost of buying the solar panels, to make it a fairer comparison of car to car, rather than solar+M3 to hybrid RAV4)
Fair point Gareth. The solar had already paid for itself prior to purchasing the Tesla, the grid/solar mix is a good point. All our grid charging would be off peak at 5p/kWh, we have never charged outside the cheap rate. Benefits of being at home / retired.
Great video, as a future customer (I’ve test driven a Model 3) it’s informative. With regards to a PDI I think we forget that these are made in the US and their quality control is shoddy at best. Once Berlin open up I think it’ll be a different situation and you’ll see a much better built car, similar to how they are in China currently. For me I’ll now wait for either Berlin to start producing or the refresh edition currently being built in the US comes over. I’ll likely wait for Berlin though. I know you find the FSD useful but would you say it’s worth the extra in the U.K.? I’m not convinced so interested to hear your opinion. Lastly, maybe a cheeky question so apologies in advance, but how much was it to get the car covered in protective film?
Interesting perspective on the country of manufacture, that will be one to watch. I'm wondering if the Tesla's ethos will filter through to the workers and the product produced will be the same as the USA output in terms of quality or the worker's work ethics around quality will filter up to Tesla. For me FSD is worth it even with the restrictions placed on by EU regs. In the longer term it will see even more value as the limitations are removed. With the current package if you travel a lot on motorways the ability to swap lanes in autopilot is benefit enough. Without FSD (Navigate on AP) you have to disengage AP, perform the manoeuvre then re-engage AP. This gets tedious after a while. Is it worth the extra in the UK? It really does depend on how much you use the car and the types of journeys you do whether FSD is worth it. I went with a full PPF and a ceramic coating. £4,500 for the complete. Many people go for the front covering, bumper, wings and bonnet. However, the sills are worth getting done too as they get lots of abuse from grit and dirt kicked up from the road and tyres.

I've had 4 SC visits in 5 months. Car needed a new bumper and driver's door and window didn't fit on delivery. Took them 5 months to sort out. Then they discovered there was insufficient coolant in the battery system which was pretty shocking in a brand new car. If they did pdi they'd find these things as there's no way for the owner to check those things.
@@johntisbury This person has commented on another site with a slightly different set of problems - including a whole front end. In that case he said no coolant. Then said the sat nav was crap until I pointed out that it was google maps (not quite but essentially) Then started suggesting that people get the upcomming Lexus. I believe this person is a Lexus dealer.
@@Tom55data the front end is the bumper. No coolant /critically low apologies for my loose language. Lexus? I've never spoken about Lexus. Are they not one of the charlatans peddling the "self charging" myth? I can assure you that I'm just someone who was due to buy an ID3 got fed up with the lack of information from VW so bought a tesla. The experience has been an utter let down. Google maps gives different directions to the tesla system on a regular basis. Tesla mapping is open source from map box and valhalla. The graphics are from Google but the routing and traffic system are not. That's why it can produce different results. In my case the two extreme cases I saw were a 70 mile detour on a 15 mile trip and Edinburgh to Belfast where it told me to take a series of B roads rather than the M8 and M77.

No worries Julian. To answer your question not in the videos you have found. The Frunk luggage is Oscar and Hamish and is British made, it's great product and there's a discount code in the description for the video. I store all my emergency stuff in there, air compressor, punctured repair kit, cleaning materials. I note that they are currently sold out. The PPF company who did mine 12 months ago no longer open, they have recommended xpelletchworth.co.uk as an alternative company. However you use, make sure they don't use a knife or blade near the car. My car was computer cut away from the car, no cutting on or near the car.

my sister got a lease car it came in to the country and a month after it was delivered so this time for it getting checked. i cant afford a tesla. i got an ioniq from aug to 31 dec i did over 2700 miles for a cost of 20 house units that i did not have to do i have charged outside for free at chargers. i moved from a 14 yr old fabia that was lpg costing 9p a mile for fuel combine petrol and lpg over 1 year use but road tax would add apx another 2p a mile 160 pound a year. i was not buying a car with petrol and electric, with rising price means more expense and more service costs and no road tax reduction as good as EV does. i now do drriving an ev in uk all about ev's and the ioniq long term use
Ride quality is a little more harsh than the LR or Std Model 3s. But I like that. No noticeable noise from the road / wheels / tyres either. No buckled wheels or punctures to day in almost 5 years of ownership. Mind we don't do massive annual mileage approx 10K per year. On its second set of tyres replaced at 35,000.
Pdi should always be done as a customer is not qualified to check that brakes for instance are good or if alignments are right. Polestar also delivers to you no dealer but panel gaps and bad paint are unheard of. For a 50 to 60 grand car it ought to be perfect.
I don't think we will see Tesla changing its stance in the short term. Maybe as EVs get more commonplace, currently they don't have that much competition.
@@johntisbury I think that this year that is going to change. Look at all models being released by major manufacturers. They are trying to capture the ice market not the tesla one where customers do care about things like build quality.
It is certainly an interesting time. The landscape is slowly starting to change, don't forget that BEV adoption is still in its infancy. The UK market share for BEV was 1.6% in 2019 and rose to 6.6% of all car sales in 2020. It's still very early adopter territory. I don't see that changing much in 2021.
I think Tesla should do a basic PDI, if they had then your bonnet and internal trim would of been easily spotted and fixed before delivery. I’m not saying put it on ramps and do a full inspection but a simple few minutes walk around with lights and screen checks etc. The very mixed survey reports are very confusing (top of one yet bottom of another, just doesn’t equate). I’ve very surprised by the number of times you’ve charged in a year, it’s not something I’d consider; but on average over twice a day. If the car does an easy 200+ miles between charges then less than 40 charges should give you well over your mileage, but granted you don’t run the car from 100% to 0%, so even if it’s 100 miles between charges than 80 charges would of covered it. So you’ve changed it about 10x more then you’d need to.....I’m not an EV owner (I’m waiting for the Model Y) however I thought the more you change a battery the more it deteriorates, so wouldn’t it be better to charge it few times....? Yet another great information video John.....👍🏻
Thank you for watching and well done for waiting for the Model Y. Hmm interesting point about the charging numbers. I didn't bother to double-check the figure from the TeslaFi account. However, what you've said makes perfect sense on totals. Thinking about it what it will have done is count up every time the car stops / starts charging, so on a sunny / cloudy day the charger would have clicked in and out as a cloud passes over. So that will be the reason for the high number. Yup, PDI is the sensible approach, however I don't think Tesla will adopt it. They are happy fixing post customer delivery. Elon has said in the past the the customer's are usually delighted to get the car and will put up with some issues providing they are fixed afterwards. Not sure I totally agree with this, however that's exactly what I did when we collected ours! LOL
Hi. the full self driving package, is that something you keep, or is it transferable when you sell the car on? Or are you able to sell the package on separately?
Thanks for watching Marc. It's a great question. If you sell the car privately the new owners gets the FSD package transferred with the car. If you sell the car back to Tesla, for example as a trade in, you get nothing for FSD. Which means if you upgrade your old Tesla for a newer model you have to buy FSD again. Elon is aware of this disparity and has stated they plan to do something about it.
Very good security and difficult to steal. There's a few that have been stolen, however they are soon tracked down. The Tesla app on your phone gives the vehicles precise location realtime. If they do steal it, you can beep the horn, flash the headlights, turn up the music real loud, turn on the air con of heating all remotely making it very uncomfortable for the thief. When parked there is sentry mode that can be activated and records any activity near the car from 4 cameras, 2 sides, front and rear. You can check realtime via your phone the car and view the camera feeds. It's very impressive. It's one of the most secure cars available.
With regard to the odd statistics - you showed JD power, the Tesla 3 is not old enough to have statistics as they need to be 3 years old. This means that the statistics about reliability on Tesla are based on the S and X models where it is know there issues of : door handles, older ones with motors, and MCU running out of write cycles on older models; certainly there were lots of issues with the S which has been better now. Therefore, what ever anyone says, there is NO official reliability statistics for the 3. The customer satisfactory surveys show that the owners of the model 3 really like their car (it tops all customer satisfaction survey) and are happy with the service centers - even though they are doing the final delivery check themselves. (I have a paint smudge on the bonnet and what looks like a delivery scratch on the rear bumper - sorted at the Milton Keynes service centre - that were really great). The 3 had problem panel gaps in first year in the US and it is getting much better - and like you my Feb 2020 Tesla have better panel gas than my wifes Audi A3 etron. We have to wait for statistics, but I think it will be found that the model 3 panel gap problem is no worse than most cars now. The Y still has panel misalignment issues - again in the US. The other issue is that the white and black paint is soft (it is an ecological paint), they red and blue multi-coat is much better but not as hard as some other makes of car. I only had my car for 6 months and the paint is fine so far, but that does not mean much. Range in the cold : The reason that EV's don't like the cold is much more about the overall efficiency compared with ICE cars. In general an EV is 5x more efficient in utilizing the energy from its onboard fuel (petrol/diesel/electrons). This means proportionally, the loss of energy utilization of energy has much more effect in an efficient system - since you don't see 4/5 of the energy loss in a petrol/diesel car. Simple. I saw this with an efficient diesel (60 mpg diesel Passat), it was effected by the cold by at least 10% compared to a petrol car that was around 5%.

Having spent some time on Tesla forums you can come away with a very biased view as most people post when there's a problem or issue. Gives the feeling every car has an issue. Positive posts are rare, but the experiences are certainly more plentiful. The e-tron is a duck out of water in many many ways. Poor software, poor execution, poor energy efficiency.
@@johntisbury Just a note that this e-tron is the PHEV A3 small sports back and not to be confused with the e-tron - that is a huge SUV. Ie it is a plug in hybrid, a nice car, reasonably efficient for a petrol car since it is a phev - but just don't mention the charge port from hell - or the dealers who don't give the proverbial.
I've just watched a Ben Sullins video and he talks about JD Power surveys and the fact that Tesla don't provide the customer contact details to allow JD Power to undertake the surveys. John, I'm put off the Tesla by the controls all beiung operated from the screen. How distracting is it to have to enter the screen to change the radio settings or the heater controls whilst on the move?
Hi Alex, good question and thanks for watching. I tend to use the voice commands for most things. You can turn on and off the HVAC, heated seats, increase/decrease temperature, play music and much much more just from voice commands. If you do need to do the old fashioned way with your hand, the latest update makes it easier. Wipers are now an icon on the bottom menu bar, along with the heater and music. It's not that difficult, like most things, familularity makes it much easier to do. If it's your first time then it takes a bit longer and probably not ideal to do whilst driving. But no different from the learning curve in any brand new car in my experience.
John, which charger did you fit at home? Did you use a Tesla approved installer, or local spark? And out and about, only Tesla attachment fits, that right? Thanks
@@m80prs I have a zappi, Model 3 is type 2 CCS connector so fits all chargers. Installed by JOJU Solar when they did my Powerwall. Only early Model S & X had a unique connector, however you can get an adapter to use public CCS connection
I’d be surprised if you don’t order one. 2 years on and it’s still top of the EV pile with many benefits over the competition. Like all cars it’s not perfect, but meets our needs entirely.
detail PDI all the way i think its a lazy thing no to do a PDI ... tesla just counts on buyers that don't care about quality and there is alot of them ....
The surveys can be misleading. Often the surveys are done by organisations that make a lot of money from car manufacturers advertising. Tesla doesn't advertise. If a door handle problem, as in the Model S, is given the same weight as a head gasket or Vanos failure, as in certain BMW's, it can give a false impression of a car's reliability. Customer satisfaction is a far better indicator, IMO.
Good vid but respectfully, I think there is a fundamental flaw in your analysis of build quality. You say other manufacturers have as many flaws, but that they are worked out before the car gets to the customer. That's the whole point of build quality and quality assurance, to make sure that cars aren't delivered to customers with defects. Whether issues are spotted at the factory or the dealership makes no difference to the end user. What matters is that the car they bought doesn't come with obvious issues that shouldn't be there, and this can't be said for Teslas. I also respectfully disagree with your assertion that this isn't hurting their bottom line. It's the sole reason I got an EQC instead of a Model X, and I know plenty of other people who won't buy a Tesla due to their build quality/QA issues. If I'm paying tens of thousands of pounds for a car, I expect it to be checked out before I take delivery. Mercedes have their flaws too but customer service isn't one of them.
You make fair points which I appreciate and agree with. Undoubtly some people will be put off by the stories about build quality and choose to buy another brand. In terms of hurting their bottom line. Tesla are the only large scale global car manufacture to be in profit. In the last 5 quarters they have been in profit. Unheard of in automobile manufacturing. They delivered 139,300 cars and produced 145,036 vehicles between July and September. Both figures set a new all-time record for Tesla.

Great comments i had a terrible experience with audi brand new car dent on the wheel arch from factory the dealer didnt give a tosh and wanted to fill the dent told him replace the part or i am rejecting. I was very open minded buying the tesla and was very reserved but the service has been great and the car was spotless on collection unlike most other brands. And by the way i sold a gas guzzling c63s cab and pocketed 10k and frankly the tesla pisses all over it….
if just driving at weekends - I tend to do just 1,200 miles a year. Should I choose to drive to work = 9,600 a year. Still debating what Tesla I should go for.
It's a tough decision and I'm sure there's more than just daily/annual mileage to consider in your choice. If it was just mileage then the Standard RWD Plus would suit your needs in terms of range at 245 WLTP.
Good choice. It will also have the single piece moulding for the rear end reducing parts used by 57 (I believe from memory). So yes it will be a better car and less likely to suffer shipping damage due to shorter distances traveled.
I only got as far as the build quality and I'm afraid you told me enough! How is it in anyway acceptable on any new car, let alone one as expensive as a Tesla not to do a PDI? Also I would be far from happy having the bonnet of a new car having to be repainted. As for the bumper that should be repainted by Tesla under warranty. Finally from lookin detail it looks as though you had PPF applied, if so is that why the bonnet badge appears to be missing?
Fair enough Keith. I'm not defending Tesla's approach, that's just how they work, as a customer you can choose who and where you purchase a car from. Not sure on your point about the bumper as there was no issues with the bumper. I had PPF applied to the car within 7 days of picking it up. However, because of the issue on the bonnet PPF was applied after the bonnet was repaired and decided not to re-fit the bonnet badge.

Direct Line, they were the only ones who would offer a quote back in 2019 as the cars were new into the country. Most didn't even want to touch them or even recognise them!
I get that you love the performance and tech of the Tesla, but feel like you gloss over the true cost of ownership, it's not zero cost to charge if you are using your solar panels, you have the cost of installing and maintaining those even if you are on a high FIT rate. Are you choosing to charge the car from your solar over battery storage for the house?, water heating or other consumption?, at least for a large proportion of the car charging?, then there's the depreciation of a high end (& high price) car. I accept this is all difficult to calculate but at least make that clear rather than trying to suggest the running costs are near zero, for instance it will be interesting to see how long the tyres last with 4wd and all that torque! - what do tesla charge for a brake fluid change or air-con re-gas? As for accepting a car with damaged trim and paint damage at new, that is really unacceptable, clearly demand outstrips supply still, once other manufacturers launch more vehicles to compete with Tesla their PDI approach will show. As for the rear lights fogging up, I might expect that on a 15 grand Renault, or a Jag :) Tesla have no-doubt led the way in car tech and battery technology, Tesla batteries seem to stand up well so far, much better than say the Nissan leaf with no active cooling etc. time will tell though. Personally I like a car with the driving info and controls in front of me and tactile, the move to touch/screen controls (even the new golf) is a cost saving for the manufacturers, cheap to produce and re-program but an ergonomics step backwards.
Thanks for watching David. You make valid points. As you say it's tricky to calculate the true costs, because of the multiple variables, plus different installation dates of equipment. Our solar panels were installed back in 2011, way before we even considered an EV. Is it therefore reasonable to apply those costs against the charging? Also those costs would be 3 times the price of the same system if we were to install it today. Then as you point out there's the FiT payments to include. Suddenly the video moves away for a review of the car after a year to a review of our complete system and costs. the running costs I'd referenced where those to date, not future costs. That was the point of the video, my 12 month ownership experience. Agreed about the PDI and accepting damage. I'm not sure that will change in terms of Tesla's stance, time will tell I guess. In terms of ergonomics each person will prefer their own experience. As most of us have grown up with dials, switches and information within a binnacle, the change does not sit well with everyone. For me, I don't miss it.
Booking in is not really great if it’s because there’s a problem with the car is it? The last car I bought new was a Kia Sportage back in 2014. It ran flawlessly for the 3 1/2 years I had it. I never had to book it in for anything apart from a service.
I’m pleased to hear you never had any issues. That is not the case with all owners no matter which car they own. Whether it’s a warranty issue or an owner inflicted incident, should it not be an easy process to book it in and get it resolved? Just because you never used it doesn’t mean that the process can be cumbersome.
I really like your videos. They are informative without trying to add the hype factor in any way. I've been thinking on buying an EV, to use as a commute car. I drive about 250km single way,so highway driving every week is about 500km. I've been thinking on buying the Kona just because I've got a much closer distance to a retailer shop from my house,if i would be in need of any services/breakdowns that's out of normal service. The temperature in the winter can get a bit cold here in Scandinavia,but hasn't been that cold last couple of years. I'm not driving fast or needs the extra hp to get me where i need to drive. Just as i can get back and forth from home to my job where i live and work during the weeks. There's almost only 90km roads where i drive with small stints of 110km speeds. So a small question with your experience,which do you think could fit me better.?? Model 3 or Kona... Greets from Sweden

Working on the fact that you can lose 30% of your range in the cold that is certainly something to consider. Although both cars have good range and will certainly meet your needs that you have stated. The other things to consider is the ease of charging. Tesla will benefit from their Supercharging network, so worth checking if you have one close to you where you are. Tesla's can also charge on the public network which gives you more flexibility. However, if you can charge at home or at work then that won't be too much of a problem as you won't need the speed of charging as they will charge overnight or whilst you are at work. With the Kona you are tied into their servicing schedule, the Tesla does not have a serving schedule, so it will be cheaper to own. Your point about having a local Kona retailer is a good one and certainly wins for ease and convenience should anything go wrong. If you can the best option is to test drive each of them and see which you prefer. They are both good solid cars, if you like tech and cutting edge looks then the Tesla is perhaps the better choice. If you prefer a more traditional vehicle then the Kona is better suited. The major difference between the two is the Kona will be exactly the same car when you roll it off the parking lot as it will be in 2 years time. The Tesla will get software updates and improve for free. It really depends what you want from a car. Whilst they are both EVs they are very different vehicles in terms of their companies approach to building and supporting cars. Kona is old school, Tesla is the new kid on the block with a proven 10 year track record of producing electric vehicles. They have a 10 year jump on technology and experience. For those reasons I'd pick a Tesla.
Has anyone experienced phantom breaking. Had my TM3 for 2 weeks and had issue last week onM1 whereby the car braked whilst in autopilot for no apparent reason
Phantom braking is a well documented phenomenon, not only with Tesla but almost all automated cars. Our Kona does the same when it's in cruise too. There can be certain trigger points like bridges / overpasses, or changing lanes on the motorway from lane 3 to 2 and there's a lorry in lane 1. The Tesla can react in some circumstances, same with oncoming lorries on A and B roads. Once you've used autopilot / adaptive cruise for a while you get to see the signs of when it will be likely to baulk out. The new Beta for FSD being tested now has improved this tremendously. AutoPilot is still in Beta in your car, so don't expect it to be perfect.
Yes it says it all .. I'll stick with my cheaper diesel Merc )) which cost a hell of a lot less than your Tesla 🤣🤣 would take me 20 years to meet the cost of the new EV.
Makes sense to keep an existing vehicle rather than replacing it. Unfair to compare new against existing; cradle to grave emissions of an EV is much better than an equivalent ICE.
The solar is not exactly free as instead of going to your car it would have gone to your powerwall or other power usage in your home which you would have likely had to import power off the grid instead
This is a fair point however it really depends on the individual setup. Ours has a set priority, the car is charged last. e.g. solar powers the house, then fills up the battery, once full it heats up the hot water and finally charges the car. The car being at the end of the chain it does not deduct from anything else. Any further surplus is then excess and fed back to the grid.

This was very interesting and well put together. But like the vast majority of EV owners you aren't talking about deprecation, selective maths. I'm guessing you've dropped around £20k in the first year of ownership. So the reality here is your true cost per mile if you sold the car today is pretty damn steep, even if you keep it for a few years it's still going to be really high. Sure the ICE will drop too but I'm sure it might be a much closer race, if not a big loss as you went for a full loaded car.
Thanks for watching Walter and that's a great point about deprecation, you are right I'd not factored that in. Tesla's have the lowest depreciation of any new car, I'm sure that will change as more and more Teslas come onto our roads. Currently it's around 5% per annum from new. Depreciation only really comes into play if and when you decide to change your car.
We’re a bit of a mix. Distance is in miles on all road signs, road signs are miles per hour, petrol sold in litres. Temperature in Celcius. Car speedometers show MPH with kMh as a sub scale.
Thanks for watching. Yes I did have to invest to get it the solar panels. You pose a valid point which is a difficult question to answer. When do you include the costs, and when do you not. If I make a video about the Tesla Powerwall which also uses solar do I include it there too? If I do I'm double counting it if I have previously included it as a cost in a car review video. Tariffminutes long and perhaps straying off the point of the original video a 2 year review of the car. I do plan to make a video which covers our complete setup, the costs, the payback, the FiT payments et all. Which should answer those types of questions. I don't feel it's right to include the solar panels as they were installed back in 2011 some 8 years before we got the car.

Likes and dislikes of my LR in no particular order: 1) dislike : setting the speed on the cruise control - yep that is my main gripe. Like you, I think an setting option to set for "current speed" would be best. 2) dislike : Only single door seals - typical on US cars, but double seals on doors are found on all German sourced cars. I have added my own double seal and this is much better : quieter + better thump on closing the doors. Tesla should do this out the factory - such a small cost to improve the perceived quality. 3) like : the Chill mode for every day driving and the "standard" acceleration for getting out of a slip roads. 4) like : the auto-pilot for long journeys - just so nice to drive and takes the stress out of driving, just sit there and enjoy the ride (while of course being aware) 5) like : good handling on the country roads - I like to just drive this car on A and B roads in the UK, it is such a nice car to drive. 6) like : the context sensitive control wheels on the steering wheel to control functions. 7) like : good voice control that works most of the time + satnav that is really great. 8) dislike : no spare wheel (though that is standard on nearly every new car) 9) like : fit and finish inside the car - it is better and more solid than my wifes Audi A3-etron. 10) like : charging - just works every time. The Audi A3 etron charge port has a pilot and signal pin too small - and is an utter pain with failed connections and red lights and no way to remove the cable when locked in. I have had to stuff a bit of silver paper down a dedicated charge cable on the control pin hole to so that it works - utter pile of crap and that lottery in the morning of whether you get the charge cable out. 11) like : getting into a warm/cool car, not having to wait for the car to warm/cool when you get in. This is EV like and ICE dislike of course. 12) like : Both my wife an I like the seats - really comfortable and a good driving position. 13) like : efficiency.
Thanks Tom, a great list of likes and dislikes which I can appreciate every single point you've made. Good call on the door seals too. I do have the additional pack for the doors, yet to fit them. I did have the roof glass rubber installed, but seemed a little too tight and removed it. I'd seen posts about it cutting into the glass sealant and causing leaks which Tesla would not cover under warranty as it was non factory. Which makes perfect sense.
@@johntisbury quite right. Before the car arrived I bought a ton of stuff, most of which wasn't 100% necessary but I was excited by the prospect of owning a Tesla. Now I can't see me even keeping it for a whole year. I just need to find a way to sell it without losing too much money as I have a car loan to pay off.
