Those „speedcameras“ you saw are for truck toll in Germany... to recognize where the trucks go and how much they have to pay. 👌

So as someone how often drives on the "Autobahn" that few rule mishaps are forgivable but at 20km/h over the limit it gets expensive and especially in a construction the limits are for a reason and try not to cross the solid line... BTW it's most likely not the battery overheating instead it's the motor. Last but not least it doesn't matter how fast you drive, if right lane is empty use it, there is no reason not to do it (only if the road surface is way smoother on the left side it counts as an argument for me but you're still breaking the rule).

Didn't Born Nyland do a recent video with Model 3 performance on German autobahns. Much higher speeds and no overheating battery. Shows the Improvements in Model 3 tech.

Bjorn encountered the same heat issues with the model S older motors- He ran again with the Model 3 with the new motors no issues

Guys, this is important!!!! The power throttling due to the battery temperature is only that early on the model X and S! The Model 3 has a way newer and better cooling system. You can push it way longer and harder than with the Model S and X. Both of these models are gonna get the new cooling system with the new face lift which is gonna come hopefully pretty soon. Please like this comment to prevent people of thinking wrong about the model 3!!!!

On the other hand, your comment does classify you as a hater and if you really think that a petrol car is better at this kind of speed, get one but don't feel disappointed afterwards.

@@vaismais I mean, a petrol car is better at that kind of speed. Like literally, there is better petrol cars at this kind of speed. I'm not saying a Tesla isn't better on other points, like acceleration, but having difficulties maintaining 215kmph in a car this expensive isn't the best...

me: 120 € not to bad, 1 points thats very low.your licence taken for a month, wow thats brutal. In Australia I got pulled over for doing 27kmh over, in a state known for not having heavy fines. that was $301 (190 €) 3 points and no loss of licence. If I was doing 39kmh over like the poster I would have lost my licence for 3 months, $731 (461 €) fine and 6 points. In heavy fining state, such as south Australia it would be $1500 (947 €) and 7 points, but no loss of licence.

Not the battery is overheating, the inverter and the motors are the problem. The X and S don‘t have a good cooling system for them, the Model 3 can do 233kmh (topspeed) without any issues constantly.

The redesigned S/X which you can buy since this year are different, though. They changed the inverter type to a more efficient one and now got an electric pump for the motor oil circulation, so even on stand still the motor(s) can be cooled.

Model 3 still overheats extremely quickly if you're not maintaing that kind of speed - so things like track days pushing hard and you'll lucky (or on very small track) if you get 3 laps before restriction. No clue if performance has some kind fans or something to keep the cooling up at lower speeds.

You should buy a model 3 or y because of their new and improved battery and cooling system made for long top speed driving. Model 3 performance can even do 270kph at peak power and maintain it a lot longer than X or S can. Also model 3 is a lot smaller so it should perform well.

The reason for the Clio to make this stupid move is that the interchange has been changed. It used to parallel guide traffic for both exits and a few years ago it was changed to two separate exits. If you have no current map or do not pay attention this happens.

The battery does not overheat. It's the tiny but poweful motor which you cant get the heat out of. That's the limiting factor on the Autobahn...

But yet it is the battery? The cooling architecture on the battery system isn't super efficient compared to the newer Tesla's. As this is an older model. It has the original cooling tech. The motors are nowhere near their thermal limits even at maximum speed. On the Model 3 and the new Model S and X cars the cooling system for the battery is different, the actual cell type is more efficient and put out less heat.

@@kunchography3725 The power limit showed up to quickly for the mass of the battery pack to generate that much heat. Also, I believe that he is not driving a dual motor model so the fact that only 1 motor converts the electric energy to kinetic energy can make it overheat quickly. (my opinion)

@@vaismais he actually recorded this video after one of his previous AutoBahn videos, where he showed Autopilot on it. That is why his battery wasn't full and the power limit showed up quick. He had already been driving over an hour or more at speeds around 150KM/h (AutoPilots max). A freshly charged battery would yield the best results.

High soc is higher voltage. Less amperage. Less heat generation. Possible peak power.

I guess it's not the battery that overheats first, but the motor stator. Cooling that is more tricky than the huge battery. Because less surface area. Tesla has quite some patents for that. But it seems, it's still tricky for continuous max power.

Indeed, the motor overheats first but cools down faster due to it's mass. Note that he is not driving the performance model witch has been designed to work better at this kind of speed. Also, the model 3 has seen many improvements in the cooling system and the efficiency of the motors/battery pack.

They wouldn't be much faster because the electric motors are rated to a certain speed and as the model s only have 2 gears you just run out of speed

That shows that it can’t use that much power. It’s the same as when the regenerative braking is limited when the battery is 100% charged

I got to 148mph driving my 2018 model X 100D in Germany earlier this year. They can be pretty strict about keeping to speed limit through road works in Germany. I got ticket going 6kmh over the limit - but the fine was low, only 10 Euro I think.

@@themars2011 Below 100km/h they first of all substract 3km/h from the measured value. Above 💯 km/h 3%. Then there is precision of your speedometer which is also from 2 - 5km/h.... If you after that thil have 6km/h to much, I would agree that the could get a ticket, but your actual velocity was not 6km/h to high then. ✌️

I did 110 to 130 mph for 20 min model s, after i parked the car it didn’t start anymore need a new motor at 30,000miles. Did your motor or battery ever break?

2:24 83km/h over the limit, 600 Euro fine 2:34 36km/h over the limit, 120 Euro fine 3:35 Speed limit is only in effect between 22:00 - 06:00, doesn't apply 5:14 65km/h over the limit, 440 Euro fine 5:24 57km/h over the limit, 240 Euro fine 5:36 Crossing solid line after overtaking, 30 Euro fine 11:47 Unlawfully fast undertaking, 100 Euro fine Only a 1,530 Euro fine, not that bad! ;D

Hey Eric, have you driven one at those speeds? I'm actually curious because I dont have a tesla but i would think it would be a smooth ride still and whats the handling like for turns vs your BMW high speeds and turns?

ebin matthew I like a tighter ride. Don’t we all😂 As far as my BMW I’ve taken it to 165mph. I drove a Tesla P 90 last week and it wasn’t as tight as I expected. Handling around turns was a little lucy. Everything else was nice I just didn’t care for the handling. I got it up to 94mph but I’m sure Elon knows that!

It limits the power draw because of overheating. and most of overheating is caused by the regen braking.

NSL is not 'No Speed Limit' it's National Speed Limit which is 30/60/70 depending on the road conditions. It's sufficiently misunderstood that many of them are being replaced by explicit speed limit signs now.

that is just how Teslas work .. you will hit top speed once for short time and than it will not let you do that again .. for example VW has higher standard and require cars to be able to hold top speed for longer time and to be able to reach it repetitively .. sure you only get like 124 mph ... anyway who cares .. you generally dont drive faster than 160-180 kmh in EU so who cares .. specialy in EV car ..

That truck with a trailer is known as a B-Double in Australia, used to be known as a road train and only allowed in the remote outback. These days they are allowed into the cities but must designated truck routes. Looks like autopilot knows about them

Speed limit of 80 or even 60 is usual at construction sites, but sometimes people take liberties with that :P The devices high above the road were most likely to check if trucks paid the toll. The only speed limit there was the night one you saw before that. One of the most infuriating things on the autobahn is cars pulling out into the fast lane at like 120 kmh without checking their mirrors and forcing you to brake down from 200 >.< Oh and if you want a really free autobahn, drive on one of the 3-lane sections of which there are quite a lot on a Sunday when trucks aren't allowed to drive :D

@@corporatebaddie685 True, but i suppose watching the blip for a few seconds and observing change could help. I do always try to do that when pulling into the fast lane, partly because I want other people to let me pass when I am the fast one and partly I dont want to get rear ended xD if i was driving a really small car like the ones that usually drive 110 on the very right and overtake trucks at 100 on the fast lane, Id be scared as hell to move into the movement path of an SUV approaching at 200 o.o

I do think that is the 2 motors that overheat. Battery is too heavy in mass for overheat that fast. But the motors can. It would be nice to see actual temp of motor and battery.

I can say, I'm jealous. I would love a chance to drive on the Autobahn. I suspect the Roadster, especially the new revision, would be spectacularly amazing on that freeway.

Autobahn generally has 2-3 lanes with no posted speed limit but a recommended one of 80mph. It's really functional and has very minimal accidents ironically. But to really answer your question is it saves space and saves a lot of tax payers from being fucked whereas here in the US our average highway system is 4-7 lanes with an average speed of 60mph yet we have hundreds of thousands car accidents every year and a good amount of them are deadly/lethal. You'd think with all the taxes we pay here, theyd fix our roads and create a better system.

I do hope that Tesla ups their game over the coming years. The major are now forced to get on board with alternative fuels, especially in Europe with new restrictions looming. The technology is there for level 4 autonomous driving, but just waiting for legislation to catch up. Renault have a fully working level 4 car ie the Symbioz and it is very impressive.

Considering that this car's max speed is said to be 210km/h (130m/h), you got the best out of it. Also, please don't go 190km/h in the right lane. If you are anywhere over 120km/h, one of the left lanes is a better fit for you (and you fast car :P ) 4:10.

I had one pop at 120 kph once. I have no idea how I avoided hitting (and being hit by) anything while wildly spinning to a stop.
