Test drove the X today - the falcon wing doors make putting in the kiddo so much easier and the 6 seat configuration makes getting in and out of the rear row easy. We currently have a 7 seater y and it’s gymnastics to get back there. The 7 seater X is a little better than the Y in terms of access but the 6 seater option is the way to go.
Pickup up a blue plaid with a steering wheel this weekend. Really happy with the roominess of the 6 seater. Too bad the middle seat doesn’t fold down flat for the occasional trip to Home Depot but it’s a great people/pet hauler. Dogs can now just sit in between the middle row captains chair.
Just purchased my model x first week of 2024. No issues at all which need a service call. Love it. $79,000 sticker price. 7,500 tax incentive. $1,000 cyber truck early reservation holder discount. And $2,500 back from TERP in Texas. Total $11,000 off=$68,900. Nice! PS.. came with a round wheel.
I’ve merely sat in an X at my local service center and I can tell it was nice. However, I’m going to avoid driving one because I love being able to say my LR-7 Model Y is the best car I’ve ever owned and driven! Thx for your insight on the yoke! It’s made me crazy hearing other people say it’s great when you know they’re just kidding themselves! 😂
I have driving our model s with a yoke for 18 months and have had no problems and adopted very quickly. That said, I have no strong feelings either way in the wheel vs. yoke discussion. Either works fine for me.
i actually put an aftermarket yoke in my 2021 model 3 LR and i love it. It literally doesnt affect me one bit. So to me... functionality wise... its no different than a wheel to me. Not better... not worse. But what makes the yoke win IMO is... well.. it just looks cooler (and sure better visability). Therefor yes... i prefer the yoke now as someone who has gotten so used to it. And no..... Im NOT kidding myself
We have a 7 seater Y too and just traded in our 3 for a X plaid - found one with a steering wheel - felt more at home compared to the yolk - it felt off during the test drive so opted for one with a steering wheel. still getting used to the turn signal on the wheel. No gear stalk is a nonissue - the swipe to drive, tap to park is fine and it’s actually easier to put it in neutral if needed. We had friends in town and while the third row in the Y definitely came in handy, it’s gymnastics to get in the back for a small adult. We still love the Y but the plaid layout of the 6 seats is great. The falcon wing doors are awesome.
I did not need a service appointment in Sept 2022 whenI picked up my MX 5 seater. Turn signals are same as stalk: up for right, down for left. What I dislike is frequently hitting the windshield washers on a dry windshield. Not good. Otherwise, really like the MX w smooth ride, storage space, suspension height adjustment for steep driveway and dirt roads, etc. with any car, there will be pluses and minuses. Hope to keep MX for 15 yrs. So glad I got it
Appreciate your honest opinion. I was really thinking about X. Currently got Y and definitely would stretch my budget but after watching this, it made my decision easier. Not going to go for it for now. Hopefully like you said they bring it down to 80k sometime in future. Or else CyberTruck it is. :)
Yea, thats one of the reasons I really wanted to get one. Not just because I thought I might want one, but because all I hear is the good stuff on the X and nothing bad lol. Drives me nuts. People are not as honest as they like to think they are. I am trying to provide actual usable info on this thing so people can make their own decision on if its worth it. It is still worth it in some situations, but for others, not so much. Nothing wrong with that being the reality. Appreciate ya!
@@BeardedTeslaGuy I literally started looking for way to trade in my 2021 Y haha until you said You might not recommend. I really appreciate your honest opinion like you said not many want to criticize or atleast say the way it it about Tesla. Your video definitely put me to ease about not going got it for now.
The wing doors are in fact the model X. Why in the world would you rid of those wonderful doors? makes no sense. The X is and never will be the modelY, why change it? Two totally different SUVs.
@@BeardedTeslaGuyIm now convinced that the model X is still ahead of the game even with all the hype of the Cybertruck. Originally the CT was $69,000 now $100,000. We were promised a 500 mile range now a 340 mi range. My 2023 X with it rear seats folded down measures out in length at 7.1 in, whereas the CyberTruck measures out at 6 ft 4 in. The CT seats 5, my X seats 7. For now I'm sticking with the X until something comes along that out shines my X.
🤦♂️🤦♂️… the doors are a mistake that we all have to live with…. but the car is muuuch more than a big Y…. the car behaves completely differently. as for the turn signals… 24h to get used to them, and to me, more convenient than the stick. the BIGEST difference for me is the cabin sound level and more so, the spectral distribution: the Y feels like an echoey tin can compared to the X….
Upgraded from a 2022 Model Y to a 2023 Model X two weeks ago. Your video touched on almost everything I've been experiencing. I hated the Y's rough ride and love the X's air suspension. I am a fan of the electric doors. I was pleased to hear from you that the two front doors will open more fully after a future software update. The falcon doors work really well. Charging in my garage the X generates much more heat than my Y ever did, which seems like a waste of electricity. My X came with three years of supercharging and three months of full self driving. But as you pointed out the full self driving can't be enabled. Bummer. However the lane change feature works perfectly and is as smooth as silk. The sound system in the X is fantastic. I'm hoping for a Dolby Digital software update in the future. The auto shift into drive or reverse needs some work. When you back out of the garage and stop, it ought to know you want to go forward. I love hardware 4's noticeable improvements in the screen images. I love the chilled seats. I liked the Y's center console more than the X's, but I will get used to it. I am still loving the yolk steering and chose it over a wheel. I'm making myself feel the bump between the left and right turn signals and getting used to that. I also wish the driver's screen was programmable. And the X doesn't have the great options you get when you hold down the left scroll wheel in the Y. I hope that is coming. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. I didn't spend as much as you did on wheels, paint and six seats, and I got a very good price on trading in my Y. Tesla was offering big discounts and incentives at the end of June. Keep making the great videos.
BTG, Congrats! I got the round wheel retrofit install for my 2022 MSLR. The new wheel makes the haptic buttons easier to reach and increased my driver confidence. Glad to see Tesla now offering the round wheel as standard equipment for new MS and MX vehicles. If someone wants the yoke, they can conveniently select that option at a reasonable price.
I am a huge fan of offering the Yoke the way it is now in the order configurator. Those people who INSIST that the Yoke is superior are welcome to add it for a nominal fee. The rest of us can have a normal wheel lol.
The Yoke is a gimmick…and it’s counterintuitive. The Tesla zombies will not hold Tesla accountable for their crappy paint quality. They are still not even close to a BMW quality, yet you pay BMW prices.
The 2022 Model 3 I bought last spring had no issues whatsoever. I also like the yoke on my new X. Much better on a long trip than a wheel and was easy to get used to. More difficult to signal in a roundabout, but this is 'Murica so we don't have many of those.
Great review Justin. I took delivery of a Model XP in March, the same color as you, but yep, I got the white interior. My biggest issue is the need for the Vision update. I've got the HW4 Cams too, so I'm hopeful that these, coupled with the 'so-called' HD sensor will make a ton of difference. Guess we shall see. Keep up the great work.
I find this whole software update with FSD 2022 vs 2023 - with V3 vs V4 hardware - 1.3 VE 5.1 or whatever cameras - with or whit-out radar or sensors -- very confusing for the average Joe. I have a 2020 YP with enhanced autopilot purchased in 2020 and FSD purchased in 2021. On the 2022.45.15. My rating is 70-75%. I also have a beard by the way! 🧔♂️
I'm with you on the missing stalks. @tesla needs to bring back the stalks for blinkers, wipers, cruise/autopilot, shifting. I refuse to buy another @Tesla without stalks.
One of the things they should've done for the turn signals if they really wanted them that bad as buttons on the steering wheel is... just put the left TS on the left side and the RS on the right side, not both left & right on the same side & under each other...
Great points all. It is really a shame they dropped the steering wheel stalks. I love those very easy to use features and like you, the Yoke buttons will be a PITA. With the Cybertruck delays I was getting antsy and considering the X to replace my Leased Model Y. This video has me mostly convinced to wait it out, That said, if the CyberTruck pricing/availability (I'm about 130K in the reservation que) changes dramatically I might go this direction. One thing is for sure, I'm never owning anything other than a BEV and based upon my over 2 years of Tesla (Model Y LR & Model 3 SR) driving, I'm very much a fan.
I'd much rather have an ICE engine when it's super cold outside. BEVs loose too much range during the winter in colder climates. Until the auto manufacturers figure out how to deal with that, hybrid or ICE for winter use. Kyle from Out of Spec Reviews has done extensive tests on EVs during the winter.
I love, love, love my MY Midnight Metallic. Said I was probably gonna upgrade to an X before the warranty expires but not in a rush now since I saw this vid. Maybe in a few years or so, just gonna rock that Y and love it
EXACTLY!! We are considering upgrading from our MY. I like/want some MX features: driver display, new red w/ tan interior, 6 seats, more power, air suspension, noise cancellation (please review), hardware 4, seat cooling, etc. Things I still want: rural package for dirt roads: ground clearance, all terrain tires, low body protection moldings and mud flaps, factory PPF coating, round steering wheel w/staulks. WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED?
"You can't buy a Tesla without having to schedule a service appointment to fix all the defects." That's totally unacceptable. It's even more unacceptable on such an expensive car. No car that's brand new should ever have to go to a service shop for repair 1 month after owning it.
Thank you for the 1-month review! I got my MX (White with Black interior 5 seater) for almost 1.5 month now so just also sharing my thoughts here as well. My hubby and I got the car at $99,990 after the initial price drop but before the April price drop and before all the supercharging offers haha. Of course like anything, it would've been better if we got it at the lower April prices and supercharging credits, but we're ok with the price we paid. I sometimes do think there are so many other cars (EV or ICE) out there with even more features to offer and very luxurious too with similar price range that we paid, but then I like how Tesla gets pretty frequent updates so that it won't be like an obsolete tech car and also the charging network in case I do go on road trips one day. Also, the X's range and 0-60 is pretty good compared with those in this price range, at least for now haha. I'm aware there are more comparable cars out there currently or soon though and I'm not married to Tesla. Section 179 deduction for business was why my hubby decided on the X instead of MYP and he fell in love with it after test driving it. We would've gotten the MXP if it wasn't a 6 seater (we have dogs so we wanted the 5 seater; no kids). Yeah I don't think the X is necessarily double the price of the Y. However, there are also many things I buy that also aren't worth double/triple the price but I buy it because of the perceived value I see like designer bags etc. I'm not a car or tech person so please don't mind my little list of why I like the X over Tesla's current offerings lol: - bigger SUV for my doggies - 17-inch display - display can swivel left, middle, and right - gauge screen - rear screen - panoramic windshield with magnetic sun visor (I put a glass roof sunshade on right now since it's getting hot and sunny in CA) - air suspension - falcon wing doors - automatic doors i.e. many ways to open/close doors with physical/onscreen buttons and driver's side closes with brakes pressed - easy to press door handles - heated and ventilated front seats (backseats are only heated) - have newest hardware/radar but too bad the X gets slower software updates - pretty smooth ride - pretty decent range (LR) and 0-60 - flapping wings and doors light show - HomeLink included - Section 179 deduction - overall, a more luxurious experience
I think you are right on. Just because my opinion is that the X is not worth double the Y, doesn't mean its not worth getting. Many people will be very happy with the car, for many reasons that I am also happy with the car. Good analogy and thanks for sharing your experience.
My wife just purchased a Y and now I am jealous and need a larger vehicle than she does, so considering the X. When she took delivery of her Y, I was looking at the X and they thought we maybe wanted to change. 😀 I also have a business an should be able to deduct it. I didn't realize that this would fall under 179 and provide full depreciation in a single year. Ok, main question, after a year, how are you and your husband feeling about the X? I have concerns with the falcon doors, granted I don't use the back doors as much, without having kids at home any longer.
@@dandyscorner The prices have dropped quite a bit and I think some qualify for tax credit since we got it back in March 2023, so personally, I think it's worth it to get it. We still love the car and luckily, we haven't had issues with the falcon wing door ever since the first time at delivery (crosses fingers). I had an issue with one of the daytime headlights not working but mobile service replaced it. I also had an issue with one of the windshield wipers another time but they were also able to fix it. I haven't shopped for cars since I got the MX so I'm not sure if anything else is better out there currently, but yeah, I guess I'd recommend shopping around first to see if it fits your needs. Have fun shopping for your next car and congrats to your wife for her MY!
I have a demo X in my driveway right now, while my Y is being serviced. After a long drive around town, I have a lot of the same issues you mentioned. I don’t think I’m going to pull the trigger. One big reason is giving up my FSD, which is finally showing real progress. I also don’t like losing the driving display that uses the left third of the screen in my Y. Also, I noticed the energy usage card is not on the X. Or the trip card. I think I’ll save the gigantic money it would take to upgrade. But man, that X would sure great on road trips.
Didn’t have those paint issues but I got full front paint protection film and ceramic coating done on my 2022 X LR and the paint is like new 7 months later. At first the turn signals were difficult to get used to but now I am very used to them and don’t mind it at all. Reminds me of exotics. Sporty driving feel with the yoke versus regular steering I feel is much better. Feels very good when accelerating and on highway at high speed. Had a lot of interior noises I needed the service center to sort out along with front door inner seals. Now all is ok and should be for a long time. Love it
You asked & you got it a model X that is $79,000! I’m considering trading my model Y with 150,000 miles for a long range model X. Thanks for the content
I've thought about the 6 seat configuration over the 7 seat, but there's a few issues. 1st, the two captain seats don't fold down, that's going to suck when you need all the seats down because you need to load up your trunk. 2nd, the captain seats don't have armrests, it's not a huge deal, but there's no place to rest your arm. 3rd, if you have the third row folded down because you need more tunk space, there's no separation between the captain seats and the trunk. And because you have that walkthrough space between both seats, anything that you in the trunk is going to go flying forward through those two seats up into the front. Imagine having bags groceries flying forward all over the place. I really think the 7 seat configuration is the way to go in my opinion.
The Model X in Denmark costs about 1.3 mio DKK which is about 187.000 USD. This is for the Dual motor version. No surprise that we dont see a lot of them around 😊
I have been driving the Model S with the yoke steering for nearly a year. I actually like the yoke very much, but there are two flaws. As you mentioned, the turn signals are terrible, but the horn is a serious safety issue. In an emergency, sounding the horn has to be automatic. It's especially difficult to find the horn if the yoke is turned. This has happened to me numerous times. In fact, just last night, I nearly got into an accident because I was not able to alert other drivers on the road in time. Instead, I had to slam on my brakes and drive off the road on the highway! No damage, but OMG! The horn placement is criminal negligence, in my opinion.
ahhhh... you're one of those excessive horn honkers. IDK... for me i NEVER use the horn. Hell im so late to use the horn that when someone doesnt start going when the light turns green... I sit there and debate with myself as to whether I should honk. So long so that the driver eventually notices and procedes anyway lol. Than you have others that are so damn quick to honk it. Drives me absolutely crazy. Like "SHUT THE FUUUUUCK UP". Does honking so quickly make you feel better? Only way I can justify it is when you are LITERALLY about to crash. Otherwise... lets be real... All you honking the horn is doing is letting the other driver know your either inpatient or pissed off. Its not needed, in which case I just give them the finger back.
Model X is so much more car than the Y. I drive an X and looked at getting a Y for my wife. I was disappointed that no self presenting doors, no lumbar in passenger seat. I’m waiting for the cyber truck.
Justin I hear you on wanting white interior. We went with white interior on LR AWD Model Y 7 seat + put white neoprene EVNV seat covers on the front seats. I’d check them out to see if they would work for your front row seats as well - seeing how the front seats will like see the most amount of Sun - even with more tinting.
I have a Model X 2022 and love the yoke....no problems at all. Also, the charge port flab actually takes no time to open. I find it to be just as fast as my previous Teslas.
This genuine criticism over the .5 seconds longer it takes the charge port to open just shows how damn spoiled we are 😂It's pretty much unthinkable that anyone would complain about this on any non-Tesla EV
We currently have a 2021 LR Model Y and really haven't had any issues with it at all. The only thing that we are really noticing now is that the comfort of the ride isn't as good as it used to be. My husband is the one who notices it more than I do because he has cancer that has spread to his bones. Hoping to test drive a Model X to see if that ride is more comfortable for him and if it is than we will probably trade our Model Y for the X.
You should test drive the new Model Y, they updated the suspension and most people say it is noticeable. If its still not good enough, the Model X is for sure going to be the ticket, its butter smooth.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy we test drove a new 2023 Model Y and the ride was better but still bumpy. Today we are able to take a Model X for overnight to see how we like it.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy We traded in on 2021 Model Y today for the Model X. Tesla is having some good promotions going on till the end of June. With our trade in and the promotions they are offering we ended up paying less than we would for a new Tesla Model Y.
There are aftermarket options that will improve the ride of the Y. I had Tein Endurapro plus adjustable shocks installed on my 2022 Y for $1,100 parts and labor.
So I keep hearing the white seats are more comfortable compared to the black or cream color seats. Since you have both, do you have an opinion on that? And has the cream color changed (if you know)? I feel like it was more "yellow" previously, but recently I keep seeing videos and the cream looks much better than it used to.
definitely not a yellowish tint to the white seats. If you saw a used one, an earlier model, those had different material which maybe yellowed? Seats are not more or less comfortable in my experience. Same regardless of color.
Does Tesla allow you to take delivery in Fremont instead of getting it delivered? That could really help with paint issues and have a fun road trip on the home. Also , i've been thinking that when CT comes out, Tesla should offer an Austin pickup option to take in a plant tour.
Never understood why it’s so taboo to be critical where appropriate and still love a car. Don’t they realize people are going to try/do what you are saying and will find out you’re full of shhh
I agree with your comment that it would be great to have a version of the X with normal doors. It would be less costly, more practical (in certain ways), more reliable, probably lighter, and less expensive. But I would want it to be just as spacious and just as well-equipped, same interior features and quality, etc. As it is, it is not going to survive -- too costly for what it does, too gimmicky, unreliable, and fussy.
Blown away by how bad your paint was, my Model Y was flawless coming from Austin. It did have slight alignment issues with left headlight with bumper that was corrected. Also the seat back fell one day. Easy to fix myself. I determined they didn't push the headrests down until they snap which holds the back on. Must have been an operator issue. Also, I'm a big guy and the seat would not always tilt forward completely using the profile. Learned this was just my body weight providing too much resistance, they recalibrated the motor so it would push harder. Been working good since however the Tesla seat back motor does seem a bit weak/groany.
$79,900. If you entertained a Model X now is the time. We are seriously thinking about upgrading from our Model Y Dual Motor at this great price PLUS the $7500 Federal tax credit.
Really nice video as always. You mentioned that the cabin is quieter. How much quieter would you say it is compared to a model y/3? I like our 3, but the tire noise (not so much wind noise) on the highway in the cabin is really frustrating for me.
Great honest review! Well TEsla heard you and dropped the strting price to just under $80K. I have a MYLR and was considering the X because Tesla also promises to tranfer the FSD to the new vehicle. But I a being picky about colors and options and I will likely not get one before end of the month. That will end up saving me a lot of money as I am very happy wth the Y "-)
I really think they should remove the falcon doors to cut some cost, double the price of model y is just way too expensive, considering you get most feature of owning a Tesla by buying a mode 3
It's not that Tesla can't figure out how to make sure the car you spent 6 figures on looks new and polished with no visible issues. It's that it's cheaper to leave it as is because at the end of the day they have learned that their consumers will tolerate almost anything.
I applaud you for being willing to point out the design and manufacturing flaws that you see, but I'm mystified as to why you are willing to accept the manufacturing/delivery-related flaws in such an expensive vehicle. Your video is almost a cautionary tale to anyone considering splurging on the X, especially when you bring up the fact that one could buy two Model Y's for the same price! $100k is Taycan money... The Model X is definitely a better looking vehicle than the Y, and the IP is definitely a step up IMO. The yoke would be a hard no for me, and the lack of simple controls for the horn and turn signals is concerning. (My guess is that we'll see the stalks removed on the 3 and Y soon as the cost reduction measures continue.) The gull wing doors and the auto front doors just seem like something that will cause more issues than they're worth and seem like the result of a product manager not restraining the design team. In earlier days, the Model X was a halo car where the excesses were notable features, but now they just seem extra for no good reason.
I dont hold back for the sake of holding back. My Y also has debris under the paint. This is something these types of defects on our X are the same we've had on all our cars from Tesla.
The Model 3 and Y need a refresh really bad and fast, I really love my MY but after seeing my co workers new x5 makes me wish it had more. The fit and finish is also on spot ( to be expected ) vented seats and praying for a motorized frunk
Justin, I ordered a model x Christmas of 2021 took delivery on March 29 the day before you did. Like you I miss the turn signal stalk, the horn button is stupid, bough I hardly ever use the horn. My Yoke is defective and they told me that I could get a round wheel instead, but you correctly pointed out that it wouldn’t change my main complaints. My wife likes the visibility with the yoke so we are keeping it. I’m curious about when I can get full self driving. I had subscribed to it and they charged me $200 but I didn’t get it. Should they know that it won’t come, and how can they charge for it and not deliver it? Isn’t that fraudulent? Anyway do you know when it is likely and how will I know so they don’t keep charging me for non product. Thanks Keep up the good work 23:35
Yea, one big issue is they are still letting people subscribe, but they don’t make it clear that you don’t get BETA which most people don’t understand the difference until they pay and realize what they thought they were getting was not there
Awesome review! We had a 2016 Model X P90D for less than a year. My wife and I were sick of those falcon-winged doors, slow charging, and limited range. We moved on to a Rivian R1T and use that for trips, but I'm always keeping an eye on Tesla. Their charging network is years ahead of everyone else, but their vehicles are getting a little stale compared to the competition. My wife's 2019 Audi E Tron only has about 190 miles of range at highway speed, but the massaging seats and heads-up display make it worth it over a Model Y considering we paid less than $48k.
Now you have both model Y and model X which one is fun to drive car? I’m currently having 2020 model Y long range and thinking about getting 5 seaters model X long range. Which one is more practical use in terms of getting in and out the car for single, no kids. Thank you in advance and keep producing great videos.
Model Y is unquestionably the best all around car. The Model X has some really nice features that make it better in some areas. My money is on the Y every day though
thank you so much!!! I can't stop thinking of owning the model X but afraid of regretting after buying it since the model Y has so much to offer@@BeardedTeslaGuy
Yeah, prices have definitely come down. There's a plaid version of your dream configuration (black exterior, white interior) That's currently 110k after destination and order fees. It is listed as a demo model but only has 6 miles on it, haha. Guess it was just a showroom model, built on March 2nd. Crazy!
I do love the Y. It’s so utilitarian. I can fit my big dog. 3 teens shuttled around. My wife and I and still have room in the sub trunk and frunk. Honestly spending $54k to me was a huge amount. Is the X worth double ?
Now that you have a refresh, it'd be interesting to see a distance race between that and a legacy X. I'd love to know how much faster your MXLR would do a road trip than my 100D.
Did you notice that the yoke is now a $250 option? So now yoke lovers can pay a little extra for that device. I do agree that the turn signals and horn are a tremendously bad location/idea. For tried moving the horn in the late 70's/early 80's and buyers complained. And they moved it to the end of the turn signal stalk. In a panic or emergency situation, there will be a problem.
Yea, I dont understand things like this. USS, removal of stalk, those are pretty standard things that should not be considered for cost cutting, at least IMO.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy It probably costs more. Think about it. They had to add buttons to the steering wheel and center console. There is engineering cost behind that which needs to be factored in.
Black cars look cool but wonder how practical they are in really hot sunny climates like Florida. I don’t think as all Tesla’s have to go in for service when new. Our Long Range Y was perfect and remains so after 15 months and 15k miles. After talking to other owners I’m far in the majority.
I want wait to get my LRMX. I got the BASE model because I wanted the tax rebate (YAY!) I'm just going to have to deal with the 5 seater.. but I think its worth it with it being SO cheap now (comparatively)
Good move! We are taking a Model X test drive this Saturday. If we decide on upgrading from our Y we will order order a base X to qualify for the $7500 tax credit.
Great video. I enjoyed the honesty both positive and negative. This is one of those cars that I’m really curious to drive and review. Hopefully I can get my hands on one soon!
Test drove a model S and lucid air recently. The steering wheel tesla is using now is ridiculous. Even if rounded out, the touch buttons made the test drive a pain. The lucid was great and interior overall made sense. Not enough time to really decide which is best, but if I had the money, I would lean more to lucid.
mountain pass performance suspension on Model y ~3K + better wheels and tires can provide a decent level of comfort. So for those who cannot spend that much for a X - then aftermarket upgrades on Model Y can make it rock! Off course nothing you can do about the space :( - then again compared to any vehicle it's size the Model Y has a ton of room.
I mean you could have refused delivery of the vehicle with those paint defects correct? If you wanted too!, also what else does it have to go back to the SC for please just curious thanks and great video as l am considering buying a model X myself.
Sure I could, but id have to reject every Tesla I've ever accepted (all 4 of them). Doesn't mean its not worth calling out Tesla's inability (more likely unwillingness) to fix these issues at the plant. I am tough on Tesla on these things I guess, but for real, these issues should not be happening anymore lol. The other issue was a trim piece that had to be replaced and the wheels needed to be rebalanced. Otherwise, I didn't have them do anything else, and I am living with the paint as is. Scratches have mostly been fixed, just not the debris under paint.
I’ve been waiting for this video since you purchased the X. I think I’d rather by the Rivan SUV over this because it seems to have more room. Of course, you’d lose the supercharger network. But I’m not buying a $100k car, so it really doesn’t matter. 😂
An X is definitely not twice the value of a Y, but neither is a BMW 7-series compared to a 3-series. When you're looking at vehicles in the 100k price range, you're getting a number of refinements, quality-of-life additions, and exclusivity compared to a lower end version.
Your video was helpful until the end when you went on a bit of a tangent. Respectfully, I think that most people buying an X don’t qualify for the new EV tax credit. They’re buying the car because there’s not much competition in this range. The new Lucid SUV might compete. The R1S is comparable but significantly larger. I live in a city and want the utility of a car larger than the Y but smaller than the R1S. The Mercedes EQ range is an entirely different class. Porsche EV Cayenne would be a direct competitor, but that’s probably years off. I don’t think teslas business model is to make many models for every single price point and consumer taste. Just my opinions. Keep up the good work.
There’s tons of people getting the tax credit on the base Model X. I hear from many of them, including in this comments section. I try to provide as much detail as I can to as many people as I can so sometimes that may sound like a tangent. Sorry, trying to accommodate everyone in these videos
Hey BTG, thanks for the video! I have the 21 LR Y, and I agree with several of your points. It really makes me want to consider a change. However, please make a follow-up (even if it’s a YT short) about your experience living with kids and the falcon doors. You may have made reference in past videos, but can you follow-up with your own personal car? How annoying are they in the garage? Do you have issues with the kids having to wait for them to lift? Any safety concerns if you have to drop them off in a school drop off line? I’d appreciate your thoughts.
I have a2017 X from new and the wing doors make people nervous more so when closing than opening. They push close button and than stand there and the door hits them. The doors stop immediately. As for kids, they love the doors a it sounds like a spaceship when they are closing when on the inside. Kids are much better than adults with the doors and even the whole car. Btw I love the car and don’t plan on ever selling it.
@@jamesrose1191 Thank you, James! My current routine is dropping my 1 graders off each morning in front of the school where they are assisted while stepping out. You’re entirely correct about the 5th graders being much more adept at understanding the door handle than the adults. I suppose my ability to close the doors via the screen could be helpful as well.
I don’t have any problem with the falcon wings at all. It is actually very convinient for our 3 little girls to go in and out. And they are always having a blast to see it go up and down. I like it that I can open and close it wether I’m on the driver seat or just walking towards it with my phone. And no problem in the garage either.
Most countries have lots of roundabouts. At a roundabout you're required to indicate out when leaving the roundabout (regardless which direction you're heading, you indicate off so that drivers waiting know they can go). Typically you're doing this when the wheel is turned about half lock. With a stalk, it's easy. In this car the indicator moves and reverses with the wheel. How the hell am I supposed to indicate correctly when the buttons, which are bad enough anyway, are in the wrong place?
@@BeardedTeslaGuy doesn't matter any more for us - has just been confirmed that s and x will no longer be made rhd. So we're only getting 3 and Y anyway. Not bothered - the indicator thing was a dealbreaker anyway. No sense owning a car that can't be driven legally.
I have the same exact car seat in my MY and the same exact booster seat in my MS. As I commented before, installing the top latch tether for the car seat in the MX is super annoying and unsafe. Also with the car seat, did you notice that if you make the headrest higher, when your kid seats it will bend over the vehicle’s headrest?. I’d never understand why Tesla made such a poor desing in a “family car”.
The issue with Tesla in their build quality is the fact that they’re rushing everything these things take time in the other side of it is that everybody wants their product now so there’s always three options but you can never have all three cheap, good quality and fast if people were willing to wait, we might get better quality But that’s something that they have to fix on a factory level and as far as them getting their cars built everything has been in-house they don’t work with other manufactures to work on their cars so that’s another issue if they were to branch out work with other companies they’ll be able to scale even more but they want to do everything else so everywhere everybody’s going to continue to have these issues if they keep doing in-house that’s just a reality of doing everything on your own more issues but Cars is still amazing but that’s just a trade off
15:19 this is so weird to me. Muscle memory is the same as with stalks. The right turn is always on the top, the left on the bottom. I never ever look at my hands.
Can you confirm if the sensors indicating you are too close to an object show on screen for your model x? I’m coming from a Y and also have a 3 with Tesla vision and it shows. My new plaid model x does not have this feature. My buddy also got a plaid model s and he doesn’t have this feature either.
I was wondering why you didn’t spend the extra $3500 to get plaid (figuring in the 6 seat upgrade) but now it makes sense if the rims were free. Congrats on the X! Nice spec!
I got a model 3 in march right after they got rid of the sensors and it bothers me no sensors my aunts model y has them and it was wayyy more accurate I end up almost a foot and a half from the curb when it says to stop it's ridiculous
Thanks for the video. As a Model 3 owner looking at an S, much of the content will probably be similar (Well maybe not the falcon wing doors). Keep up the good work.
I’m happy with my model y, I would consider a x if the range was much higher and they got rid of them rear doors. As far as the initial quality issues, is not that tesla can’t figure it out…it’s that they won’t figure it out. There is no excuse when they’re making that kind of profit in every model, they really need to step it up! Thanks for sharing your model x content, can’t wait to see more videos on hardware 4 in the future!
The reason why Tesla won't figure out the quality control issue, is simple. It's because they don't won't to. Think about it, they have such a loyal fan base that literally anyone will buy their cars. They have no incentive to do a better job on quality control. Now when things change and they start to lose more market share, they'll definitely have to step things up.
Excellent Review. I wish they would make a cheaper model without the falcon doors as well. I would buy it because of the rest of the features. Comfort, quickness and more miles. Thanks for sharing as always. Congratulations on your weight loss. 👍🏽
They scream "LOOK AT ME" which I do not like. On the other hand, I really like how easy it is to get in and out of back seat, in tight spots, its even better.
Either I'm ridiculously lucky or there's something wrong with your model Y. Had my vision only Y for a year and a half and can count on 1 hand how many times ive had phantom breaking. Crazy how different the experience can be car to car
I’ve not had any phantom braking either on my Aug 2021 delivered MYP. Tesla are missing a opportunity here as there has to be a tangible reason why some cars have this issue and others don’t. They should share the data, what they think the root cause is and any potential solutions they plan to implement.
@@brianroberts3312 I rented a 2022 Model 3 Performance for a 536 mile round trip. I had constant phantom breaking. I just don't think it's a priority for Tesla to tackle at the moment. Most of their attention seems to be focused on FSD updates.
