Wow! This is the most beautiful road trip to date. And I can’t wait to share the next one with you too! Thanks to Marcus for loaning the Y for our trip. Who wants more Norway content? Perhaps some cold weather EV testing this winter 🤔 Corrections: - I mentioned incorrectly that the Y has two PM motors, this isn’t correct. Sorry for mentioning this! - We started on the east side of Oslo, not west

Kyle, I have enjoyed your videos from The US. In Oregon, through The Deserts, Dakota, Montana or The Rockies… So enthustiastic and fun. Great surprise to see You start in Lillestrøm (I could almost see my House over The River and hill). I would recommend a stop halfway in Geilo (over 794 / 2.600 meters / feet above sea and 150 miles from Lillestrøm, 135 miles from Oslo) and then start with fully charged batteries both with vehicle and personell. Remember that a long car journey is similar to a good and long movie. Black nights and glaring lights is not recommended. Better start with an orange sunrise. I am still attached to our [Family] Dieselcow from 2011, but longing for a better alternative in an EV. After a testdrive with a model 3 this summer, I was both surprised and convinced by the quality of a Tesla. Not to mention the charging concept. Hope for a 3 or Y Tesla in the future. PS: we have above 90F in summer, do not forget big differences in summer and winter temperatures due to our latitude position of 60. A trip from Oslo to Bergen may require the A/C in full operation in July.

WTF is up with Americans? Why must you always proclaim or imply that any and all other languages sound strange and are exceedingly difficult to pronounce… even when you just pronounced it?! Why not just do your best, and move on. There’s no need to be insulting. Besides, @31:31 those letters are all recognizable in English! And they’re all forming sounds that are common in English: Maur (as in Maurice), Set, Land, Handel… what is so hard about that?!🙄 If you can’t pronounce that, perhaps you have no business making RU-vid videos… in any language.

You always produce great videos, I'd love a Tesla but sadly we can't get them on our Motability Scheme in the UK, however, I collect my Hyundai Kona 64kwh Premium on Friday, my first EV, can't wait. By the way, I'm an HGV driver her in Britain, I drive for a regional utility company we drive Volvo cabovers as you call them in the US towing 42 ton articulated water tankers, I love it, it's a great job. Jealous! Going to Europe this summer and hoping to make it over to Norway (along with an EV roadtrip). Also congrats to your friend on the Circle K job! Hope to see more charing infrastructure like they have Norway all over the US. Excited for more of Tesla chargers going in and them opening up the charging network, but the more chargers in general, the better. Their might be some issues in the US if Tesla opens up their charger infrastructure but I think they'll be short term problems with how many their adding.

I think you should start calling your channel, "Charger review" because that's what you spend most of your time doing. You tell the same story over and over regarding charging but very little about the car or the journey. What about the noises you mentioned? Can't you demonstrate those noises? The views of Norway are nice but your editorials are boring. You showed literally nothing about Bergen! All you keep saying is what a view! Opportunity lost. Your channel has not evolved.
@tacosalaten3677
@tacosalaten3677 2 года назад
the noise he mentioned is probably the electric whine from the ev motors. in china the evs make more sound because they want to have an auditory feedback from the car and since this is a China made Tesla. you can hear it cleary in model3 in Norway since we got both USA and made in china model 3s. so all the chinese evs are more noisier than the westen/european cars and American made Teslas. Wish you could buy one without that noise but when the Berlin factory starts making teslas it would hopefully ship without that.

A very large portion of the population in Norway worked as fishermen or on ships in the 40s through the 70s. Sailing around the globe earning a lot of money. Many of them stopping in the USA such as my grandfather. Would purchase American cars in the us and ship them back to Norway. Owning a huge American car in Norway was seen as special. There were a lot of them by the 70s

The big Tesla charging station in Oslo in the underground parking lot: was there any hint of the concrete floor trenched up and patched to run (200 kw) cables to the stalls. Nothing shows in the video for floor work. Goes to cost of retrofit in a facility like that. All the Type 2 wall chargers show straight forward cable runs in Oslo.

I know you’ve mentioned cable size with reference to version threes and I want to clarify that the conductor itself can be different metals. You could have different metals that have more free electrons so they conduct electricity better versus others that don’t do so well or may be stranded versus solid conductors. Then the thickness could also be coming from the insulator as well as the cooling in the packaging of the whole cable but a higher voltage system does demand less current but may need better insulation because of the voltage potential. Have you seen the Model S Plaid battery internal strap across the top of the battery pack? That is one massive bus bar that needs to carry a lot of current because it is a lower voltage. Great video and awesome views. Thanks for sharing‼️💯
@jimmurphy5355
@jimmurphy5355 2 года назад
All EV charging cables use stranded copper wire. The only metal that is a bit better is silver, and it is far too expensive to use for general electrical wiring. Solid conductors are not much different than stranded in terms of conduction, and would be far too stiff to use for a moveable cable.
@garyclark6747
@garyclark6747 2 года назад
@@jimmurphy5355 I know aluminum is used limitedly in residential but you are correct that copper is the standard and solid is stiffer though a smaller diameter for the same rating. No doubt copper is the go to off the shelf choice and at 400/500VDC the insulation can be a size savings needed but can only tell you what I see around and am unfamiliar with 800/900VDC rated stranded copper insulation thickness.

Got to say that I'm wowed by the numbers of stalls in Norway... actually jealous really 😅 Here in the UK, despite now huge numbers of Model 3s on the roads, our supercharger network needs a whole lot of expansion. Some of our supercharger locations have as few stalls as just two! Some four! The average is probably 8... but it's leading to waiting at busy times, which in the UK is always! I remember driving in and around LA in 2009... thinking boy I couldn't live like this, just way too busy. Yet our motorway network is grinding to a halt! We really need supercharger locations like those Norwegian ones here. Once those Ys arrive, it's going to get super busy at the superchargers. Great video as always. All the best 👍

Regarding the 43kW charging: yes, my original ZOE (2013) can charge at 43kW AC. Not all ZOEs can, though.There's a difference between the 'Q' version and the 'R' version: the 'Q' (meaning 'Quickcharge) can charge at 43kW AC. Of course this kind of charging never really took off, but if you have a 22kWh battery, 43kW charging feels quite fast and CCS is not really that missed. I love my ZOE, with all its faults it's just a great car to own and live with. Just came back on a roadtrip using only Fastned 43kW AC chargers, never stopped for more than 15 minutes (the AC destination chargers also were really welcome).

Quite happy public chargers like this don't all have attached type 2 cables, as our extremely popular Leaf (first Gen) is type 1... You'd need Type 1, Type 2, and CCS at least. Cables generally supplied with car so no problem. Fast chargers (e.g. Chademo) have the cable fixed at the station.

It would be good to see you have a 1000km race with Bjorn whilst your in Norway. Superchargers not allowed.

A great video in so many aspects. But, change your partner - she is unenthusiastic to the point of rudeness. You deserve better. Dirch her before she ditches you - and she will. In the meantime thanks again for a first class video!!

Regarding type 2 cables, there are many Nissan Leafs and other vehicles using type 1 connector, which wouldn't be able to use those chargers with fixed cables :)

I am curious - can you tell/have you noticed the power sources for the Tesla charger? The first one that you stop at appears to be running off the power grid. On your trips do you see many which are obviously powered by Solar or other renewable power sources? I have seen pictures of them under solar panels which I assume are powering some sort of battery storage to energize the chargers.

How lucky to visit Norway and be able to drive a brand new Tesla around the country for free! Enjoy. BTW, how much it would cost a regular person to rent a Y for 2 weeks?
