You came to my hood, and did not tell me :p. Circuit électrique is the main charging network in ax, mainly 50 and 100kw Flo charger that are well maintained and real work horse, the CE started to deploy 180kw charger with power sharing
We took our ID.4 to Quebec for XMas Markets last year and stayed at the Frontenac. It was wonderful and the hotel automatically charges all EVs. We also used the circuit electric. Canada has great EV infrastructure.
Another relaxing & fun road trip video. Beautiful scenery. Missed Kathy, she probably would have had you wash the grapes before eating them! A nice gift for her would be to get JuneBug detailed after this trip.
It’s funny seeing you do my regular drive in reverse (almost). I regularly drive from Montreal to Hartford and back. Too bad we’re having a bad winter with very little snow. It’s even prettier most winters.
Circuit Électrique is our state electricity utility owned charging network. It’s the best network nobody has ever heard of. Massive L2 and DCFC charging network. Cheap too! Bring your CCS to NACS adapter. And yes lots of EVs here. Cheap electricity and proper investment into EVs. Almost 20% of new car sales at EV here
Love Quebec City and Le Château Frontenac. The view of the city from the hotel is breathtaking. Hope you enjoy the Old City and get a ride on the Funicular. So many fabulous places to eat. I've only been in the summer, which is when I suggest you bring Kathy in the Model X. I found you need French more in Quebec City than you do in Montreal.
Thanks Dave. V2 vs V3 cables and wiper service tips are great to know. 58:39 You stop in Norwich VT to get washer fluid showed that community board and sharing areas is really nice (including the icicle). I'm going suggest these ideas for my church just outside of Toronto. Lotsa love to all ❤❤❤
If you want to use CSS you can stop at the exit 220 on the 20 and eat at the big restaurant there while charging on your way back.. eat at the bar you will have a better view... Welcome in my home town!!!
Great video and fun to follow some familiar roads with you and your Y as I am a CT neighbor (just a few towns over)! Thanks to you and Kathy for all your helpful info and as a result I've test driven and am ready in April to get a Y. When you and Kathy are checking out a car I feel like friends are helping me with my Tesla decisions~ relaxed and real ~Excited that Mohegan is my pick up spot! It will be my first. Hope you had a fun trip to Quebec!
This vid was deja vu as we had a ski house a few miles south of Hanover. I remember dinners and a couple of overnights at the Hannover Hotel. For more serious skiing, we upgraded to a condo at Killington, VT. About 10 years ago, Tesla installed destination chargers and gave test rides at the base lodge. That was my introduction to EVs.
Watching from Wales, UK. Don't think i have ever sat and watch a 90 minute video but really enjoyed it, thanks Dave. Loved the scenery. Maybe you could take Kathy on a trip and post a video on that. Love the interaction between you two. I do not own a Tesla yet but possibly get one next year. Sage journey, Thanks again.
Hello from Derby, Vermont. That St. Johnsbury charger is at what we always used to call the sMall becuase it was such a weird little small mall, but now it is really just there for the Ocean State Job Lots.
The V2 supercharger cables are air cooled needing a larger diameter cable verses the liquid cooled version 3 supercharger which does not nèed the large diameter to effectively cool the conductors.
May I make a suggestion? For a nice leisurely drive going north I would suggest using US 5. Sure, it’s slower. However it’s got less traffic and is really scenic. 😊
Something worth noting about the Circuit électrique chargers seen at 1:18:00: they can be activated through many EV network apps, including Circuit électrique, FLO and ChargePoint.
The Circuit Électrique is absolutely the best Quebec Non-Tesla North-American CCScombo network with very reliable professional Hydro-Quebec maintained 50-100-120-180 kW Level 3 chargers that is in all regions. Teslas chargers are still rare in regional Quebec and favor larger cities. In fact all visiting Teslas in my eastern region use Circuit Électrique or other non-Tesla chargers all the time as they are absent. Best of all for 800V charging of all those Taycans-Audis- Hyundai/ Kia/ Genesis payment is through refilling app with credit card or pre-ordering a plastic RFID Cardin in just a few low signal cell isolated chargers. The internal CE map in the app is very good.
I may be the only snowmobiler out here who also loves EVs! And I also cross the border often as I live near Niagara falls NY and head to my cottage in Canada 4 hrs northward. So this video really hit home for me Dave! Check out my 2022 Mach Z turbo riding videos on my channel sometime! I really got into EV's and Tesla because of Kyles enthusiasm for performance driving and speed ect. I have always been a speed freak and Kyle reminds me a lot of myself. I decided to demo drive a model 3 performance and caught the bug with the insane 0-60 quickness. So then last summer I picked up a new Tesla Model 3, did the road trip down to Mt. Kisco NY from Niagara falls to pick it up. I had seen your videos on Mt. Kisco and was able to get an inventory model for less $. I just love it so much, and am leaning toward a Model Y Performance next! I loved the Border crossing enthusiasm, and the Canadian food and chocolate bars, reminds me of all my trips i take to our cottage. When i head north from Niagara through Toronto, this major busy area of southern Ontario is FULL of Teslas. Every car i see is a model Y pretty much. With their price of fuel in Canada it makes good sense. Keep up the great work OOS Team. I for one really appreciate the videos and how you are educating people on EVs. I'm trying to do my part, when a guy like me who is a motorhead, sledhead performance guy, tells his buddies to try an EV, I can get a lot of pushback. But i tell them just give that pedal a launch and tell me these things are not a ton of fun! Nothing can cure the need for speed like a performance, and maybe one day PLAID! Cheers!
Thankfully, our new-to-us 2023 Model X Plaid has FSD as an included package. I've tried it and it's basically pretty good but, I enjoy the auto lane-change ability of EAP. Put in a destination and the car will change lanes out on the highway with no problem.
The st.johnsbury stop is absolutely terrible, glad you called that out. No bathrooms of any kind, no food, and quite a ways off the highway! Have learned you need to stop ahead of it for a bathroom 1:05:03
I left MTL at 95% for Québec City (stop over). Arrived with 15% and charged on V3. Peaked at 226kw/h for about 12 minutes @ 12 degrees F outside then fell to 119 and topped at 107 until it hit 55%. Then it averaged at 75 until I hit 85% and finally 55 until 90. I was going to Chicoutimi. The whole trip was uphill. The Tesla prediction was 8-10kW optimistic. But when I reached 35% the energy consumption was surprisingly optimistic readjusting upwards. My conclusion was a 15% energy consumption greater than what Tesla predicted. The FSD did a fairly good job but deactivated it in a storm. I my Y is a P and I left it to comfort driving.
Great video! I’ve been thinking Kyle should make the trip up North to cover our charging network, looks like you beat him to it! Electric Circuit is a little late to the game when it comes to charging speeds but they’ve been installing 180 kw and a few 350 kw stations over the last, let’s say, 2 years. It’s an extremely reliable charging network, I’ve rarely had issues with their stations. Almost on par with Tesla Superchargers, seriously.
Long, yet enjoyable journey, as I live in the Upper Valley. I know first hand of the Charging challenges in Vermont and Western New Hampshire. These become more evident in cold temps traveling to ski destinations. Love seeing the footage of Dan and Whits. Make a point to stop at King Arthur flour next time.
Dave, great video! I'm curious, given my daily driving distance of around 115 miles, mostly on Canadian highways, would you suggest opting for the Model Y LR, or do you think the Model Y RWD would suffice?
I find I have similar problems purposely setting off the nanny in GM SuperCruise on my Bolt. It is extremely good at knowing if I’m watching the road so when i am trying to set it off on purpose, it still realizes I am glancing. I have set it off for real when i take a long drink from my water bottle. I also have just covered the camera to see if it was actually working.
Cheese curds are the best. Especially when fresh and squeaky. I have a favorite cheese store in Colby, WI where I love to get them on the way through to Northern WI, and the UP of Michigan.
On your charging speed, check out the status of the air intake louvers. Snow slush loves to clog them, and that messes with HVAC, and the ability to precondition the battery. When they get clogged, they can't move and that may make it impossible to properly cool or heat the cabin and battery. They are supposed to have a heater, but sometimes it can't keep up. When slushy snow gets splattered by other vehicles tires, is when it's the worst. OK at an hour in you showed dirty louvers. Check in the notices to see if the it couldn't move the louvers. Living here in the upper Midwest, I keep a wood dowel I use to clean the louvers out with if they get clogged up. I also have a knee pad to keep my knees out of the muck. On my last trip up to Northern WI I had to use it a lot to clean the louvers out.
Circuit Électrique has one of the first KEMPOWER DCFC sites in North America actually. Pull-in stations and everything. Could be your next destination!
Double stacked floormats in your Plaid X and this Y - not safe! Remove the summer mats and the Winter ones will fit more snugly and keep crumbs from going down the sides.
I hand wash my 22M3 and put it in car wash mode and wiper service mode so i can move the wipers, and as soon as i put it in drive it existed wiper service mode and dropped the wipers.
So nice you got to visit one my favorite places in Canada. I live in white mountains of New Hampshire. Please do visit Mount Washington and drive up the AutoRoad to the top.
Kyle said on the 10% challenge video your X now has rattles and creaks like his S. I guess you’ll dump it like when you got the Lucid back, for the new 3! Of course, he’ll take that for months too!
how much does the cold affect a trip like this compared to say if you made it in the summer? living in the mid-atlantic (delaware) it gets cold. just curious if you say average on 80% charge normally 250 miles, does that become 170 or so in cold weather?
18:55 I use standard autopilot and it doesn’t seem to be very concerned by how much I look around. But i can’t figure out Tesla insurance. I will be paying attention going 35 behind a car that slows a little and I get a Front collision warning and yet I was in no danger of that. I can go from a 100 rating to a 65 on a hiven day just got that and the only way to increase it that day is drive a lot more without autopilot on. It’s nuts!
Ford Mach e and lightning with an adapter will have Tesla app connected to ford pass and will be plug and charge. Just like they can use electrify America sites
It's going to be a gamechanger for non-tesla vehicles when they open up. I have to imagine it's going to help sales. Lots of Tesla owners getting tired of Tesla and wanting something different and new buyers that wont buy without access.
This is a different subject but I consider you an expert on Tesla’s. Yesterday I went to the Tesla site and picked out a Model Y performance. I added the red paint and white interior, $3000 extra. I noticed that Tesla’s price is misleading. When they show the price they are subtracting a potential savings on what they think you would save not having to buy gas, they make it look like you’re saving $3600 but that amount is not coming off the total price, yet they show it being discounted. My wife and I don’t drive near that much. Another thing is Tesla doesn’t want you to trade a car in because their offer is a few thousand dollars less than KBB average. This makes a big difference in the amount of tax you would pay. One last thing is if your Tesla broke down and couldn’t be repaired by the mobile service and has to be towed to a repair shop. who pays for the tow charge? I live 120 miles from the Tesla Store. Looks like I will have to wait for the Cadillac Optiq or the Chevrolet Equinox EV. Thanks, Ronnie
@@zahf6484 But I still think Tesla is misleading by doing this. After all the price you have to pay is the bottom line. To me it would be the same thing if I bought a Geo Metro, and I was told I could potentially save thousands of dollars on gas. Tesla is guesstimating. If you are a Tesla owner could you tell me the answer about who has to pay the towing fee if it has to be towed in? I live 120 miles from the closest Tesla store and I don’t know if they have a repair shop. This could amount to hundreds of dollars just for one tow. Thanks, Ronnie
True but the meaning of potential savings is literally potential. Usage differs case by case but the potential for savings is there. I disagree, it is important to mention those potential savings to the customer as it is one of the biggest factors to purchase this car and they need to be made aware.@@ronniemullis8717
The leaf guy didn't tell you also the te rate per kwh is cheaper on the 50 than on the 100kw... If you wan't to try one of the 50 or 100 I wouldn't mind starting a charge session for you. I think you or your son should really talk about the public charging in Québec as we have built quite a nice network....
54:50 Don't forget to unbuckle your seatbelt when crossing into New Hampshire to feel the true 'Live Free or Die' spirit without having to fear cops pulling you over. New Hampshire is the only US state and one of the few places on this planet where you can legally drive on public roads without a requirement to buckle up. On interesting question with regards to driving a Tesla in New Hampshire would be, if the system automatically disables the seatbelt warning chime if you are in New Hampshire?
I have a question then, concerning the wipers. Do you put the wipers in service mode if you expect snow the following morning? Does the Tesla automatically put the wipers in service mode, when snow is detected and it is parked?
Flo chargers are about as reliable as Tesla, great company with great support and based in Quebec, Electrify Canada could learn from Flo, maybe use their charger equipment.!
Model X is out west with Kyle for a while ELR not registered yet; DMV closed do to snow the day I had my appt and I have to wait for the next appt. So the Y got the nod
I'm an atheist The sole is the bottom part of the shoe. It is sometimes referred to as two separate pieces: insole and outsole. The insole is the part of the shoe that has direct contact with the bottom of your foot.
It's is a setting. With the one tap you loose the acc function when changing lanes. Pretty useless for me, I want the acc function when changing lanes.
I think that the "Autopilot" nomenclature gives many people the impression or illusion that it is more than what it is. It is just lane keep assist with distance pacing cruise control, PERIOD and furthermore is no better and in some cases WORSE than the driver assist functions on other automobile makes. Also, phantom braking is much more of an issue on Teslas than other makes. Tesla has room for improvement.
@@myaccount__7269 I'd also suggest Dave cut down on repeating simple location and destination info throughout the narrative. I have a working memory. Hooking up a Scan My Tesla would give valuable added info to report as the drive progresses.
