Tesla is possibly preparing for a HW4 (hardware 4) retrofit for intel-based vehicles in the next few months, this was recently spotted in the latest software update 12.5.4.1

Although HW3 could still be supported for awhile longer with better software optimization, would you consider a paid retrofit to get it on par with newer vehicles or expect it to be free?

My 2023 Model Y is HW3 but my processor is AMD Ryzen not Nvidia Tegra or Intel Atom. Do the HW4 cars use the same Ryzen processor as the HW3 cars ?

In Europe the LR RWD was release, can you explain why the energy consumption is bigger than the LR AWD, if its lighter and has less power? 14.4 kWh/100km vs 14.0

I would attribute it to having 1 less motor for regenerative braking, so within that 100KM span, its able to recouped less energy back compared to the AWD. The original RWD was just lighter because of the smaller pack so less comparable

Just give us ryzen already... Biggest tesla regret getting a model 3 end of 2021 with intel chip at least i ordered few days before 2k price increase

@chriso5842 it’s quite difficult actually, it would require a whole swap of the board and wirings. Think of a computer, it’s near impossible just to change the CPU without changing everything else

Well, let's see about this. I remember Tesla quite clearly stating when they released HW4 that there could be no upgrades to HW4 for HW3 vehicles due to the level of architecture changes. I feel that even HW4 vehicles will never get Level 4 or 5 FSD. Maybe AI5 will add additional sensors and we could see finally Lvl 4/5 FSD.

It's Tesla, so things change, but Elon was clear that HW3 cannot be upgraded to HW4. They could offer something like a 3.5 but that would still mean 2 stacks. I'm going to chalk this up to rumor until we get more information.

Just sharing the latest findings, but yeah I’m sure it’ll be expensive but nothings really impossible they could make a retrofit if they wanted to. Elon also did say that HW3 wasn’t going to be enough to run the new 12.5 stack, but after some backlash he’s now making all efforts towards making my it happen so idk 🤷‍♂️

@@heyJohnEe I hope you're right. I'm on HW3 and if I'm understanding the comments coming from Tesla correctly, HW3 won't achieve unsupervised FSD. I'm wondering if 4.0 will either, since they're already talking up 5.0, a full 18 months to 2 years before its expected release.

@Ryan-ff2db although that may be the case, they need to live up to the promise of autonomy. So they will have to provide some form of upgrade path to avoid any legal challenges

They didn’t, Elon did. And Elon usually goes back on his words relating to FSD, lately it was on HW3 and 12.5
