Check back next week when I make an entire mech suit out of Samsung products*! *This is a lie. My mech suit will be made out of the bones of my enemies.
Sir, welcome to the land of discovery. Hindsight is 20/20. Everyone does it the hard way and then figures out they did it the hard way when they finish. So many times in my career have I had to repair something and after I finished I realized "... why didn't I do it that way....!?" It's the way of life.
An addition i would make is little 3d printed arms that hold the tablet up from the bottom of the tablet and attached to the mount. Peace of mind that it won't slide off the magnets with a particularly strong bump in the road!
Gotta be honest, I skipped this video the first time I saw it, then watched Jakes “why creators do brand deals” video then immediately came back to watch this.... And I was a fool for not watching this the first time, Jake can make a great, entertaining video out of anything!
4.16 Jake learns what tolerance is the hard way I think most ppl that 3d print do this on there 1st time round or so or was that just me 2 cool project bro
Hell yeah rtj4!!! Short story about them, you put me on to them. From one of the JAM playlists you had the run the jewels instrumental. I was in my local record shop and was in the mood to buy an electronic record I saw the rtj1 album on display. I bought it without listening to it in the store and didn't know they were a rap duo. Thankfully, I love them and now have all 5 records in my collection. Also cool build and good sponsorship
This reminds me of my first car, back in 2012. My little Smart car and "the new iPad", aka the 3rd generation iPad. I had a desk stand that sorta looked like the iMac stand, but could spin around so the base stuck out the back, then the Smart car had a little drawer under the radio, which I routed an aux cable up through the back, along with a USB to 30 pin charging cable. Connected the iPad to my phone's hotspot and boom, 9.7" display. This was before iPad could split screen, but could use Google Maps and there was a music app designed for car use, even had swipe actions to control.
Do you think this would be possible if you took out the navigation and replaced it entirely with either a Tab S7+ or ipad mini to make it look more slick.
There's something powerful about making tangible stuff. It's so rewarding to sort a bunch of atoms with our thoughts and so easy to understand once it's done
I watch a lot of Doug Demuro videos about cars and my question ALWAYS is why don't they just put in a Samsung tablet or an iPad in instead of those crappy screens they have? I understand the legal and financial problems with that, but this shows how good of an idea it is! I don't have a car, but if I did, my first upgrade would most likely be doing something like this.
Great build! I know it's a touch screen, but would you consider making a keyboard dock so if you needed or wanted to type something a little longer? Just trying to solve the same problem on a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK for a Surface Pro 3. Thanks Jake.
Well well, Jake. This install is nice. I did more or less the same thing in my Chrysler 300C with a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10,1 however soon started to hit hiccups thanks to Samsung's spotty implementation of USB C host prioritisation, as I'm running more than just the tablet itself. Essentially the tablet is on the end of a USB C hub (with passthrough charging, Kingston Nucleum) and the hub has a USB C Meizu DAC (unbelievable little thing), a USB 3.0 SSD (type A) and a 12v to USB PD/QC3.0 charger powering the whole thing. Unfortunately, the whole install is problematic since the tablet decides to take over the role of powering this little USB network once the car powers down. When powered up, the tablet isn't that consistent in configuring the devices it "sees" on the hub, often sitting there charging only. No audio, no data. Bums. Do I have to go and become an Android dev to fix the spotty (this is being kind) Samsung ROM? It almost seems like the best option....
Mind the pot holes don't shake your rig loose unexpectedly. Let the passenger catch it if it goes. It won't be that far of a fall for any real damage, I think. Famous last words, those; "I think".
