I've gone to the v4 site in Alabama. the posts are on the back left side of the parking space. TLDR: the handles are long and chonky. Make sure you have at least a good 12 inches between the post and your car or you won't have enough room to plug it in.

Love your site tours. Keep them coming! I'm near the ATL V3.5 site but have not been up there yet. Once they open it to non-Tesla, I'll try it out with my Mach-E. I was wondering if all of the V4 posts had Magic Dock so it was nice that you pointed out that these do.

Great content,Brandon. I would wager that the Tesla supercharger division is (or moving quickly) set up to service all customers-internal and external. Like LG makes just about every OLED TV screen but they sell those raw screens to anybody & don't give the part of LG that makes whole TV's a discount. I think this is the best approach for neutral EV charging infrastructure growth.

Contrasting this site to the V3.5 Kyle reviewed in Europe, it looks like the posts are centered in the SC stalls but the European site had the cables centered in the stalls. I'm looking forward to V4 dispensers to use on my CCS vehicle. I'd be really curious as to what point Tesla switches exclusively to V4 dispensers and what goes into the decision right now on using old V3s or new V4s.

For those who believe in Tesla's mission, they are much more than a nothing-burger as it appears they will be the chargers that allow the Tesla charging network to be opened up to other manufacturers. Because Tesla charging stations are good, while other networks kind of suck. By centering the stalls and providing longer cords, the charge port location is no longer an issue. By hopefully including a CCS adapter, that could be a huge benefit for anyone with a CCS port, at least until most vehicles fully switch over to NACS. And including a payment system will also be very nice if non Teslas can't authenticate in the same manner as Teslas. I hope to see Tesla step up Supercharger site construction with V4 stations, ideally partially funded by other manufacturers that will be utilizing their network.

I wonder if the actual first 1000-volt capable V4 Supercharger in the US will be in Mesa, Arizona. At the TMC Forums, they found documents stating there would be a charging cabinet upgrade. Hopefully that's the case as it would be only a 6 hour drive for me to test that in my EV6. What do you think Tesla will do with these V4 sites that have V3 cabinets to get 1000 V output? Will it require a hardware configuration change or could they do it simply with firmware? The V3 cabinets can already output 1000 V between each other.

The reason they have magic docks even though most manufacters are switching to NACS is the same reason they also have a payment system on the post. The feds require an EV charging station to be compatible with CCS EVs and have an electronic payment system to be eligible for infrastructure funds. Tesla is just complying so they can get the money.

You may have answered this on X, but I don’t go there anymore. With the cyber truck coming out with the high voltage architecture at some point, they’re gonna have to put in high voltage chargers, e.g. they’re gonna have to change the backend of the V4 dispensers. Is there anything beyond speculation as to when that might occur?

Do you think your cable critiques were a bit harsh? These cables are liquid cooled and should help with thermal throttling. You do remember your wet towel days? 😂 Also, on your complaint on removing the cable from the holster and moving it around… you were holding a camera in one of your hands. I think we’ll get used to pulling the cable down as more of these stalls are in use.

Except he was comparing the experience for a Tesla driver using a V2, which he also often uses with a camera in hand. No doubt the comparison is likely valid. It’s still probably a far better experience than using a typical CCS dcfc cable and connector though.

To be clear I think what you’re saying is that these are Nevi compliant and are being installed where there is nevi funding or other local funding to install chargers that have payment terminals and are CCS compatible but Tesla has no actual incentive to enable them on.

@@brandenflasch what’s missing that isn’t compliant? So what charging post will Tesla install to meet the Nevi funding that they have won so far? I believe Tesla has won 18% of all Nevi bids thus far. Close to the 20% limit for any one operator

Is Tesla working on making faster charges???? If V4s dont charge faster, what's the point? Who wants to sit for 40min in a car full of kids on a road trip.
@tboneforreal
@tboneforreal 6 месяцев назад
Likely the reason they are upgrading the posts first is because they can get the infrastructure money from the feds because the posts are compatible with CCS. They can always upgrade the electrical cabinets later to actually provide full V4 charging capability, which is faster.

Hello Brandon! I'm from Ukraine and recently bought a Tesla Y with a 4860 battery. I would like to ask what degradation of the battery you have now, how many miles does a full charge last? Also, has the car's software been updated? I think I read that Tesla has programmatically limited the battery power and with new updates the range should increase. Thanks in advance for your answer!

Has anyone tried to charge using the MagicDock at this station? It may be a soft rollout that still works, just not advertised as such. Given the MagicDock and payment terminal, what's left for them to achieve NEVI compliance?

The longer cables will be helpful for CCS cars, as you mentioned. However many CCS cars will still be in the wrong parking spot if their charging port is on the left side of the vehicle. Wish Tesla would announce the date to open their SuC network to CCS cars. We visit places where there is either no CCS chargers or the CCS chargers are so poor that using the Tesla Network would be very advantageous. Thanks for the V4 update.

I have a CUPRA Born with the charging port on the opposite side and I can guarantee that I no longer take up 2 spots at V4 sites here in the UK where I can drive straight in and plug in without having to take up 2 stalls.
@jayhoughton558
@jayhoughton558 10 месяцев назад
No they won’t. It should be able to reach just about any charge port location with the longer cable in the proper spot. If it is on the front left of your car then you would just pull straight in front first. If it’s on the right side of your car then you would likely back in. It might even reach the Tesla standard location (maybe not sure) if you pulled straight in but the cable would be along the door which would be annoying.

The key is reliability and faster deployments to accommodate the non-Tesla EVs. Honestly, most EVs won’t be pulling the max power anyway. Good to see these coming online. I also saw Tesla yanked out the V2 superchargers in Springfield, VA and hope these will be installed.
