He is giving an excuse for why the Tesla failed three times before even attempting it. Tesla's self-parking software is notably worse than other manufacturers. Hell my brothers Ford Fusion would have done this the first try and better.
I'm from South América and that's also a average parking space, when I was in the driving school to get my license this was like the normal parking training, it's not weird the American situation with driving skills when you see their licenses are invalid in the rest of the world, for example the Argentinian driving license can be valid in Europe (you can like "change it" to the local driving license)I think just with a little test

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. This is a premium spot in any large city. It's only a tight spot if you need to shove the other cars a little to make room for your car to fit.

I once did a 19 point turn - with MAYBE 10cm on either end (like 3, 4in I think?) - just to get to school on time without having to walk too far.

That spot would be considered relatively generous in Manhattan. Given that, this is a pretty bad parking job. In addition to it being crooked, it’s more than a foot away from the curb which would result in a $55 parking fine because the meter maids are sticklers. There’s no way I’d leave the car that way either because someone on a bike or another car could clip the left front fender and wheel well because the car is not flush with the others.
I was gonna reply that you're wrong about the distance from the curb, but I looked it up first. Man, NY is strict! In California you can park 18" from the curb.
@@ub3rtristan yes, New York is a pain, I’ve had a car here street parked for 15 years and finally got tired of it after the pandemic, they ticket for everything, there’s no consistency, it’s whatever mood the meter maid is in. It could be 11-inches to the curb and you could still get a ticket, and there’s no way to prove it because they’ll say you moved your car before taking the photo. Some people park over a foot and no ticket for days.
@@TrapisteEric 11" from the curb is pretty far... Where I'm from, that's considered bad parking (but legal, the limit being 30cm/11.8"). Most drivers are never further than 2-5" from the curb, and the spots can be tight. It seems like in the USA, everything is made easy, except getting time off work and getting health care...
Quick tip for newer drivers: get as close right to the car in front when ligning up before the park. Then just turn fully right when the back wheel passes the corner of the vehicle in front. The rest is regular. Tldr: get closer right to the car in front before parking
Couple of points where the Tesla went wrong. It was too far from the car Infront when setting up. It turned too early which left a massive gap between the left side of the car and the corner of the front car. This all meant that it had to straighten out too early and make more corrections and ended up too far from the curb. On the street I live on in the uk it would have been 1/4 into the road and would've impeeded drivers.
"This parking space isn't tight because the spaces here are tighter". My guy, it's called a spectrum. Just because some space someplace may be tighter doesn't mean that the original space isn't tight.
My 2016 corolla can do that easily come on that not impressive at all. Especially if you had to try it 3 times before which makes it unusable in daily life

To me it appears to be computer generated video, look at the top of the white pickup truck 2 to 3 seconds into the video, there are a couple of quick pixelated flashes on the roof of the truck

So as an American, I’ve visited Rome, Paris, Athens, and London, and yes it’s true, parking spaces in Europe are far smaller than those in the US, since many Europeans have much smaller cars than those in the US, and the roads are narrow too, I’m pretty sure most of the roads there used to be for horses, and not cars
If you were in a situation where the spot is that tight, you were probably not gonna have time to let auto pilot do its thing since someone will probably swoop in behind you and steal the spot.
But why? I can do that manually in a space 36" longer than my car. (Less than 36" takes a bit longer). And I'd be parallel. To pass your UK driving test you have to reverse park. Nobody should need help getting into a huge space like that.
I'd absolutely do it. The other cars aren't parked badly so that wouldn't be too bad. It's when one is parked far away from the curb is when it gets a little tricky.
Old park assist utilized a combination of lidar (in our test model configurations, but lidar never entered for public use) and or radar, but Tesla disabled it and gaslighted the customer base into thinking cameras are better when in reality its just cost saving.
This is sad because it's just highlighting how bad of drivers the programers are 😂. They need to hire a professional driver to teach them the algorithms pf driving, if that makes sense. It didn't hug the first car to start enough, so its angle wasn't as steep as it should have been. When i parallel park, the closest moment is when you wing the nose in. I think if it didn't move the nose out at the last minute, it would be better.
I’m from Europe and people say that this is a big space, and it is, but you guys have to remember that this is a fairly new innovation that will keep getting better.
@@semirbuljubasic8614yeah, there are some Peugeot 2008 from around 2015 that already have this feature, although not that useful, but I take that is par for the course, given that even Tesla's method only worked on the third time.
Precision like this is something machines will always excel at. For a human, that would be a challenge, but I have complete faith in AI doing it perfectly and effortlessly.
@@TheHQZombie Complacency is all around us. Of course a machine can malfunction, but that is the exception, not the norm, and it shouldn't be the reason you don't let your car park itself.

@@rockyplayz1224 It is tight, but is literally avarage tight, every parking space in most European cities are as tight and some a lot tighter compared to this, but people still park without any problems.
