The display LED placement is what I like here unlike others where the light bleeds and is always powered from back to the front via jumper wires soldered.

I would rather have the Tesmen than one of those cheap battery testers for checking AA, AAA, and 9 volt batteries. They're about the same price. Nice review Darren..............................Tom

To be fair to this meter, i think it's slowness in continuity is due to the fact that it is trying to figure out whether you are testing a very low ohm resistor....or testing for continuity. It is trying to be correct is all. Great value meter and only 9.99 in yankee bucks on my Amazon right now. Thanks for another great video, Darren.

Nice little meter. I actually saved this little guy in my Amazon cart. It’s currently $13 US on Amazon. They show it with black, red, and green covers but looks like you get whatever since there’s no color selection option. Great review! Thanks

Get Aneng M118A much better beater meter IMO. Both priced the same. M118A has manual mode, some sort of input protection, continuity test responds faster, easy access batteries... better meter overall.

@@tech29X The Aneng is a great dmm but it's completely different from a user perspective. TESMEN is appealing to the concept of sheer simplicity in a very basic package. They've succeeded and the TM-510 is an excellent first meter or glove compartment grab 😀

@@KeepOnTesting Maybe I need to rewatch this video, but I just ordered M118a for exactly that, toss it in glove box. Somehow I'm sold on better continuity test on Aneng and assurance of the manual mode just in case a measurement doesn't make sense and go manual mode to verify. Maybe something wrong with me.

@@tech29X Different strokes my friend. Both are solid. Tesmen is the quickest ranging SMART meter yet. Aneng does more but isn't my reccommend for a new user or someone who needs just the basics. Either will do the job.

I bought this tester. I can honestly say that you can accurately test a diode out of the circuit, one direction reads resistance and the other direction is infinite.

Thanks for the review. I just bought it for basic dc testing and for the back light display. My little clamshell All Sun pocket can be a little hard to read. Looks like I shouldn''t rub this one on whiskahs either. 😼

@@KeepOnTesting I will. Can I hook these things up wrong and destroy them, or mistakenly have them on the wrong setting. I'm new to multimeters. I need a video on what you need to do to not destroy your multi meter when using it. lol

@@bettinanstevens9259 Mistakes often happen with multimeters unfortunately 😕 even the most seasoned pro usually blows a fuse or worse. I'm working on something similar, a (Multimeter tutorial) with a twist. Hopefully out this summer! Just don't check your voltage while in current mode!

A fair score I think, if you want a meter just to probe around circuit boards you don't need current capability, so why spend on features you don't need? Just a pity the continuity is a bit laggy.

Roger that..the slow continuity and lack of magnetic backing or tilt stand wad the only downside to thus simple SMART dmm. As you say..not everyone needs the kitchen sink !

Basic but quite capable. A simple volt-ohm meter is enough for most home repairs. 👍 Still I think all smart meters should include a manual option. Measuring low resistance or continuity in full auto mode is such a drag.

This device confuses me, I have never used a multimeter before, I bought the TM-510 to test fluorescent T8 light strip bulbs, to see if they are duds or work. When I put the probes to the end of the light the numbers just shoot up and down very fast and shows auto too, and the little arrow keeps moving around. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong ? I have seen people use multimeters on T8 bulbs on RU-vid and they seem to work okay, so not sure if it is just this device or not.

Although you would be better off with a regular meter set to ohms, i think the fact that it is shooting around means that you have continuity so the bulb is good. The reason yours does this is in my other comment. The bulb's resistance is very low normally, anyway.

@@englishrupe01 Thanks. So you are saying if it showed nothing the bulbs would be duds/blown, but the fact it shows anything at all, even a non-stable reading, means they likely work ?

Not too bad for $15 or so - though curiously not available on Amazon U.S. & no reviews, right now just sold on Canada Amazon for 22.99 and reviews there are pretty good except for one reviewer (jimmy James) who points out the continuity range reads as continuous @ 50 ohms or below and wont read Kohms accurately at sub 50 ohms, see review for a more accurate description as this may no matter to some - but it also has slow continuity, little to no surge or input protection, no current or capacitance range etc. so one might refer to this more accurately as a pocket "volt / ohm meter" instead of a "multimeter" that would have a full set of ranges, but im splitting hairs here. Faster than many smart meters, nice display with stay on back light and a usable NCV range- a handy little handy around the house general use pocket volt / ohm meter and a fair rating at 3.5 stars.

It's the resolution of the display. In effect, 3.999 volts after that it will display 4.00 volts.

ANENG M118A and this meter both got 3.5 STAR-Z??? The universe is too big for our little brains to grasp the scale of stars. If we're using fractional stars maybe we should switch to base10? Keeping in mind their price category, How about a solid 9 points for M118A and a 7 for TM-510?

Hehe..Well it's going on 6 years of testing so I don't think I'll lose my star rating at this point! I think it's important to note that a dmm's final Star 🌟 rating is unique to that specific test instrument. So just because 2 multimeters received the same amount of stars doesn't necessarily mean they are equal in performance or value for that matter. It simply means based on a defined set of criteria that particular multimeter garnished so many stars based on its individual performance and usability as a whole.
