Old post I know but have been a Tesoro Guy my whole life and just picked up a mint condition Cortes. Love it. Not sure if its as deep as my Vaquero but love everything about it.
I'm looking forward to more vids of this machine. Thanks for taking the time to show the readings, sounds, and final dig results. Don't forget to recheck your holes and plugs (at 29:46 for example) because multiple targets in the ground can throw off a good signal.
Good Fortune Metal Detecting Cortes has the SUM mode -- you just thumb hold the switch to SUM and just slightly sweep back and forth --signal is cleaned up and a tone ID is given also === really like that kind of PInpointing feature also like the bar graph i dig very little bottlecaps with my Cortes
Hey nice finds. Just one tip for you to help with I.Ding your targets. When you come across a target thats iffy turn 45 degrees and keep sweeping while turning. That could help if the item is a masked coin come through clearer or confirm its junk if its still iffy from all directions.
Too bad that Tesoro went out of business. We'll miss those detectors that were simple but yet very effective. I got their last detector model they made the Mojave. I heard they only made around 150 of them.
soldanovht noneofya Thank You. The Safari has a larger DD coil, works great in salt water and is good for rainy days because it uses buttons instead of dials. The Cortes is light as a feather,, it is great for Canadian coins and is very fast. Both machines are built well, have fantastic TID and depth, although the Safari gets a little more depth, covers ground faster and ID's deep targets more accurately. I like the idea of using two very different machines on the same sites. The shovel is a model 31 from Predator Tools.
I can tell you , having used both....the Cortes cannot compete with the at pro or max. I've been a long time Tesoro user but I have switched to other brands because of the advancement and capabilities of newer machines now.
Jeremy Terry only used this once and it’s used but I can argue the tejon can compete very well. The Cortes does seem less of a machine. Again I’ve used it once and may send back to Tesoro for adjustments and tune up in hopes that it helps.
I was thinking about buying a Cotes until I watched your 40 minute video . I see how badly it I.D's targets , and you still dig a lot of iron and foil , and bottle caps . Think I'll stick with my Compadre if I would have to dig all that stuff any way .
A detector can only estimate an I.D. based on conductivity. Soil conditions, proximity of targets, position of targets, etc etc. will all skew the numbers. Many trash items will read the same as a gold coin or ring. In my experience, people who dig/don't dig based on the meter are leaving lots of good stuff in the ground, but hey, more for me. Learning the audio on a good detector is far more reliable, IMO. In the end, your eyes are the only reliable target I.D. if you're not digging some junk, you're missing stuff.
