I heard my grandmother talking about Mary Pickford and Tess of the Storm Country several times growing up in Ithaca,NY , where the author lived. I read Mary Pickford's autobiography in high school, it was a very old book, titled, "Sunshine and Shadow". She had an amazing life.

There were two versions with Mary Pickford, one in 1914 and one in 1922. This is the second one.

I have seen both versions. Both are very entertaining, but the original version in 1914 is better.

What a wonderful tale and a wonderful movie ! Mary Pickford was indeed a great actress who could emote so very well in the early years of the movies. The movie can be a powerful medium not just of art but of morals too. This inspirational movie can change men in real life too. Despite the as then undeveloped cinematography, the movie has conveyed its powerful message excellently well indeed. Hats off to all those involved in the making of the movie and the creation of the tale. The movie shows how its life is its message and not the medium or technology

As someone else pointed out this was a remake of her 1914 version which she disliked for good reasons. The earlier version was filmed in a dated old fashioned style with a fixed camera with tiny sets in a static setting. A sort of filmed play, with little camera movement, undeveloped story lines jumbled together and very primitive. This second version has all the advantages of advancements in cinematography, direction and movie-making style. It is much better than the original whose print still exists. The story-telling and acting scenarios are much better, because things had changed between 1914 and 1922.

Mary Pickford is brilliant in this film! Why has no one ever made a biopic about Mary Pickford?

Probably not a personality that would be of interest to current audiences, the vast majority of which probably has never heard of her. I think younger generations don't even know who John Wayne is ( whether that's good or bad depends on your point of view, I guess).
