Human beings have discovered over five thousand five hundred exoplanets. Over 80 percent of them have orbits shorter than 50 days which would place them at over twice as close to their star as Mercury is to the Sun. Some are even closer. Recent observations from TESS however have found one with an orbit of 82 days and another measured in hundreds of days.

For a planet orbiting a Sun-sized star at 1 AU, the probability of a random alignment producing a transit is 0.47%. Sooooo, finding planets with the transit method is preeety crude it looks to me? Directly imaging earth sized planets as close as Mercury to it s host star is forever impossible? Oh and I dont mean resolving the surface, I mean like make them even show up on the sensor pixel matrix by like one or a few pixels just to be able to determine their basic properties? I would assume being able to do that would let you discover _all_ the planets out there within the radius of possible discovery, from earth, for any given size instrument.
