The SAAB is a VERY easy and forgiving airplane to fly...About the only vulnerability is tailplane icing and a bit anemic on single-engine go-around capability

It's a really good plane in real life. I did jump trips in it twice to Mount Gambier and Port Lincoln with a mate who was captain. Was really nice.

There's a Takeoff Inhibit mode to eliminate your Master Caution on the roll, it's the top of the two black buttons under the gear handle :)

Nice job with the video. Just found your channel and subscribed. Ahhh, the Saab 340...I've spent many hours on these when they were a staple for American Airlines (American Eagle) back in the day. Will be checking out your other video on the Fokker 50. Glad to see this one coming out as well. This is the aircraft I fly on every year or so with VLM who operate this from London City to Antwerp Belgium. Thanks again.

I work for an airline that uses SAAB 340's and i work on them all the time. Its spooky how realistic is it, only thing missing is alot of oil and grease stains.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if you are aware...There are two methods to start the engines...AUTO and MOTORING...Also, the wait between starting the engines is for battery recovery ( You check BATT temp gauge in limits and NOT increasing, which would indicate a thermal runaway since the SAAB uses NiCad batteries ). AUTO start has CL in START and then select "START" on the appropriate engine (it's a spring-loaded switch ). After that it's fully automatic and controlled by the DECU ( Digital Engine Control Unit ). A MOTORING start has the CLs in Fuel off...Motor the engine to about 19% ( I forget now, it's been since 2011! ). introduce fuel and in LESS than 2 seconds turn on the ignition...We used MOTORING starts because our engines were leased from GE on a "Power-by-the-hour" leasing program and the engineers specified the MOTORING start method...I'd be happy to assist anyone with any questions...I still have all my "Stuff" i.e., manuals and training materials...Cheers!

Probably a config warning as you took off flapless? Even with take off inhibit on, it would still show the warning. In real life its a different sound. We also use the CTOT to set the desired take off power.

Awesome mate! Really happy I saw this before I bought it. Unfortunately I dislike the reused sounds from many previous aircraft, however it is an amazing model.

The review does not mention a vital point: the broken FMC. This is not study level aircraft, fair enough, but a working FMC/"navigation computer" is essential in my view.

My guess about the master caution would be a configuration alarm since you didn't have the flaps extended.

@@AusFlightSimmer yes config warning. It is a master warning not master caution. Would have said CONFIG on CWP. In takeoff configuration it's either a pitch trim issue or condition levers not at the Max stops.

Unlikely to happen - as per today gulfstream sues anyone trying to model a gulfstream plane without permission and they don't give permission. It certainly is on the wishlist of many studios, but gulfstream has the last word here.

The Saab 340 is my absolute favourite aircraft and I bough it when it was released by Carenado. I was disappointed as the systems were hardly close to the real thing. Although I can give them for the exterior sounds as they are nice, are these problems going to be fixed by Carenado and the systems updated to be more like the real thing or are we having to wait and hope for another developer to produce a study level version??

William, if you go by their history, you wont see anymore system added. The most realistic SAAB I have come across is the LES in xplane. Thanks for taking a look at the video.

I’ve long said that Carenado has a ton of potential. They make fantastic looking products but that’s as far as it goes. The last time they got my money was the Hawker 800XP.

1:54. AUS Flight simmer, you forgot to mention Loganair (Pronounced "Lo-gan-air"), the Scottish carrier which has 17 SAAB 340s in their fleet (2 340AFs, 2 340BFs & 13 340s. They also have 5 SAAB 2000s - Stretched variant of the SAAB 340.

a big mistake when start up , fuel cond. is in "start" postion , the TRQ run up to 100% , what a poor thing !

Hi Shane I believe you have/had a problem with getting the GTN750 to work in this plane. The trick is switching from NAV1 to GPS a few times and then it just picks it up. Yes, weird and an nasty bug, but at least some kind of work around. I ran into the issue that my props keep spinning after I shut down the aircraft. If you have a solution for that I gladly hear it.

Aus Flight Simmer Here is the trick. On autopilot select NAV1 and scroll to GPS. Then go back to NAV1. On the GTN750 you select GPS. This trick works best for me.

Cold and dark started Left and right eng.... L eng stopped and restart seq seemed to not work.. Just kept spooling, but didn't ignite when CL put from off to start. Hm..

Nice video however how can we hear exterior inflight sounds when there is dodgy freeware music blaring away. Sounds are a big part of any aircraft package and i would much rather here them than music. Nice vid otherwise..

Funny enough Jonathan you are the only person that has mention that for the whole time I have been doing this series, which has been many video's. I make first look video's on scenery and utility's/plugins/addons. That's why I named it Test Drive, not just about test flight in aircraft. :) I have been waiting for someone to comment lol

It's a shame the sound set is not realistic at all! No sounds in cockpit of recirc or battery circuit breakers and the engine sounds are nowhere near the sound of the real deal! The visuals in the cockpit look stunning though. Hope they update the sounds!

OK, make sure Gen R & Gen L are on reset not on after engine start and see how you go. Fingers crossed.

Hi mate. Recently got this aircraft and I'm having some fps issues. My default aircraft (FSX) are at solid 60FPS, add-ons such as Captain Sim 757 at about 25FPS. I load up the 340 and it's at 0.7FPS (!!!). Not too sure why this issue is happening and I don't think it's a system issue. Any suggestions? Thanks

EFPV , i like as you Xplane 11, but here the comparison is between S340 between Carenado and X-aviation, not between P3D and X-plane. And by the way Carenado made beautiful planes for X-plane...

Yeah.. Looks like Carenado beat LES to the punch for the P3D version of the 340.. A shame really, but to Carenado's credit, it really does look better than the LES one, but only slightly cheaper..Arrgh. Now, I don't fly airliners usually, but if this is a 'casual' version of the 340, I'm cool with it! XD Plus, she flies really nice, and the FMC isn't bad either. Btw nice BMS vids, I've been trying to find the time for that one for over a year..
