@@awyep4169 welp we just need an advanced weapon decay game mechanic that would play out both cosmetically - rust, scratches etc. , and gameplay wise - jams, lower accuracy, slower reloads and all that shit. From a gamedev's perspective (which i am not, at least for now) that doesn't look that bad on implementation level, just stick that overlay texture on, but some tweaking would be advised to make it work better than it did in Far Cry 2

What you might be able to do since that original wood looks really rough is coat it in resin and sand it down until it evens out, kinda like youre putting filler on it. Then you can polish the resin and get something that wont put splinters in your hand and looks beautiful.

Appreciate you doing this. Although I was a year late You are one of the few channels I found that actual tested a very old gun after restoring it. Most channels just clean it up and just settle for it as a display piece, but most of the time the intense curiosity of "will it ever fire again" is always left to the viewers. You actually took the time to attempt to satisfy that curiosity while doing your best to mitigate the risk. That slow motion of the bolt sliding back after a shot, extracting the bullet case is incredibly satisfying. Hope your content grows keep up the good work

Perfect example of robust Russian design. As I understand it, the decision was made to sacrifice a little muzzle velocity and vent the gas far enough back in the barrel to allow even old, potentially degraded ammunition recovered from the basement of a burned and flooded building and dried in the sun to have a fighting chance of still propelling the round at a useable velocity AND cycle the bolt as well. Even in pre-AK47 days, the 7.62x39 ammo was being produced by the train load.

I am absolutely astounded that this SKS shoots this well, or even at all. As a precautionary measure, you may want to purchase some 7.62x39 headspace gauges to see if the weakened metal is slowly working its way apart. I would expect the bolt to close or get close to closing on a "No-Go" gauge, but if it fully closes on a "field" gauge, hang it up on your wall and do not continue firing it. It's absolutely hilarious that once the crud got blown out of the gas port, this SKS appears to be more reliable than my friend's Bushmaster AR-15. I've seen some people have success with welding up holes and pitting in relic condition helmets, it might be worth trying that out with this SKS if you want to continue using it as a functional firearm. All of this being said, absolutely incredible work you've done to this rifle!

I don't quite understand what you mean by original furniture. Do you mean a new wood stock in good condition or the original wood that was on it when I pulled it out of the river?

I've heard of GIs picking them up in Vietnam, all jammed up, to the point where they couldn't pull the bolt open. They would just make sure the mag was clear, place the butt on the floor, and step on the bolt handle. Voila! A bit of lube, load it up, and fire away!
