The 407 V6 was hampered in the UK by its automatic gearbox. We had one for 6 years. Utterly superb cruiser, good handling, excellent suspension, loaded with kit, a stupendous bargain compared to an Audi and more fun to drive too, but when you tried to push hard the gearbox was blunt and stupid - we should have remapped it. A manual 406 V6 will thrash a 407 V6 auto.

You get a shitload more car for your money with a Peugeot. Peugeot is more reliable than BMW too, and the 407 doesn't die at 100,000 miles unlike the 3-series.
