Great review. So few reviewers bother to talk about the emotional reaction to a bike and, let's face it, that's why most of us ride

Very nice review. Bought a 2010 Triumph Thunderbird with a lot of the cruiser extras. I find your comments on the relaxing and comfortable riding style quite accurate. I've been riding unmodified standards such as BMW R series and Moto-Guzzi Ambassador and Eldorado models since the 1970s as well as the more modern equivalent such as the Bonneville America and now this Thunderbird. It is a different style of journey and great therapy. I concur with your assessment of this type of riding and, especially, the Thunderbird. What a marvelous bike.

I ride everyday even in rain. I put Michelin Commander IIs on my T bird. Now I can ride pretty much the same wet or dry. You don't need six gear until you past seventy mph.

Good choice of tyre, I have them now and wanting to switch to trade-up to a Thunderbird so this is very reassuring.

@@NQZ17 I went with Avon Storm 3D's on my Storm, they do wear down fairly quick, but there's lots of grip and you can actually do corners without tiptoeing around them worried about traction.

Great review my friend! Was fun and informative. I bought a new, 0 miles 2014 Thunderbird two weeks ago and I absolutely love it! I'm a 50 year old Harley rider but the Triumph is an entirely unique experience. The transmission is silky smooth and the handling is superb. It's like riding a Dyna without all the vibration and rough shifting. Keep up the reviews, they are enjoyable to watch. Cheers mate!

I've owned big cruisers off and on since my late 20's and push them just as hard as most other bikes I have owned. Point is you don't have to be slow to enjoy a big twin.

Thank you for that demo ride and its interesting to hear you comment as normal. I had a big cruiser(1500 Suzuki)and the main reason I found for all of them is to be seen and for as you say the laid back ride and not filtering/going fast once you get that sorted they are pretty good. I did miss the overtaking things at warp factor 4 though

If you ride it long enough, you can filter just fine or maybe our roads are wider. At 60mph you should be in or downshift to fifth gear. You will overtake quite fast. 90-100 mph by the time you reach their front bumper. Get rid of the Metzler tires. They are horrible in wet conditions. Michelin Commander IIs are capable of almost dry like performance in wet conditions.

See I only went on the storm, it wasn't as shiny as that one! but Im pretty sure that the storm is the one with the biggest parallel twin, but I could be wrong, its not unlike me to do that. I always found that the size of the bars helped massively with the weight! Shame about the weather! loved the video as usual though :-)
@MunkehsMotors
@MunkehsMotors 8 лет назад
+BeardedBker484 Cheers mate, yeah they had the blacked out storm in the showroom, but they didn't have a demo one for me to play on. The wet roads did make for some fun powerslides though!

Really enjoyed this review - it helped me in my choice for trading up from a 2017 Honda Rebel 500 and loved the ride last week. Got a choice of three in my local area, so a busy morning tomorrow test riding two others on the motorway and B roads I use for my 90 mile commute. Can you tell me what short-sifting is? I've learnt my motorcycling in French and this is not a term used here. Thanks.
@MunkehsMotors
@MunkehsMotors 5 лет назад
Short Shifting is where you change gear before hitting the rev limiter, as the power has normally started to drop off by then, so you'll accelerate quicker if you change gear sooner. Through out the video I mention quick shifting, where you change gear without using the clutch, there's lots of good videos explaining it on RU-vid. Ride Safe!
@NQZ17
@NQZ17 5 лет назад
Cheers for that.

How does it feel after 6 hours or so in the saddle? Is it going to work for an occasional 300-400 mile ride? Most of the time it would be ridden locally. Thanks

You'd love the Storm, that extra HP and torque does require sport-tour compound tires tho'. What did you think of the cornering?
@MunkehsMotors
@MunkehsMotors 5 лет назад
Compared to the Hornet I was riding at the time the cornering was a little scary, not much ground clearance. But you didn't need to throw it round a corner quickly to have fun.
