This series is intended to help learners of Modern Standard Arabic who have at least completed the Gateway to Arabic Book Five to improve their listening and comprehension skills through a collection of short stories with an Islamic ethos from a book called ‘Room 101 and Other Stories’ written by Dr. Ahmad Bassam Saeh and translated into English by me. The book is available from our website gatewaytoarabic.com.

Would like more full readings in Arabic.
@ImranAlawiye-gatewaytoarabic
I'm working on producing videos of some of the other stories in the Room 101 collection. I've started on a second story called 'The Happy Pauper' and hope to upload more episodes soon, God willing. I'll conclude it with a reading all the way through once it is finished. I hope this helps.

Why is صحراءَ accusative despite coming after في ، in في صحراءَ قاحلةٍ لا نباتَ فيها ولا ماءَ.
@ImranAlawiye-gatewaytoarabic
Thank you for your comment. The Arabic noun صَحْرَاء is a diptote and therefore can only take a fatha or damma ending according to the governing grammar when the noun is indefinite. If it comes after a preposition such as فِي as in your example, it would take a fatha rather than a kasra, unless the word is defined by ال or an idafa (possessive) construct. In the sentence you quoted, the desert is not defined (i.e. 'in an arid desert'). Had it been defined (e.g. I slept in the arid desert), it would have taken a kasra ending: نِمْتُ فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ الْقَاحِلَةِ . I hope that helps.
