Great video 👍. No matter how tight your lid or nozzle on Cyanoacrylate is it's always going to diffuse into the air and clog. Best thing I found was to keep the bottle inside a jar with least amount of spare room as possible. Over time you will observe the Cyanoacrylate diffuse from its bottle and condense on the inside of the jar. It looks like whitewash on a window.
I really like the design of the fume extractor... just a side note, the "poorboy" version of the tabletop weeding ring is a planters mixed nuts can with an "X" cut in the center of the lid.
For CA glue, since it cures by reacting with moisture in the air, store it in a container with a desiccation pack. It will increase the life of you CA glue and prevent nozzle blockage.
I still remember working in a sign shop many moons ago. I used to duck tape a scrub brush to the back of my hand to clear the weeding pick. Started doing that after the first and only time I tried to clean up the scrap pile having forgotten there was a discarded X-acto blade in the pile. 6 stitches and a tetanus shot later...
Starbond also has black CA glue which can be useful. Also, keep all of your applicator lids and don't trim them to unclog them. Just throw them in a mason jar with acetone for a night, occasionally shaking them up and they will come out good as new. I do them all at once, just put masking tape on the bottles to close them up.
Jennifer, Thank You! Who makes the Helping Hands in this video? I’m looking for one just like that, but don’t want to wind up with a cheapo, inferior version. 👊🏽
Girls garage sounds awesome! 😍 I am a leader for a girl group at my local Makerspace (Geek Girl Mini and Micro) in Sundsvall, Sweden. So I was really glad to hear about this maker group!
I always found it a bit ironic that to teach people that sex doesn't matter, you first have to segregate them in to separate sex activities for...I dunno, some generations?
So it’s obvious then that sex does indeed matter. I think there should be more of these. Also to have regular workshops for the boys since boys and girls naturally have different interests
Thinking of Girls Garage. When I was a kid my mom was a construction worker. She was even in the Philadelphia Inquirer paper as one of only 8 female construction workers in the city. Later she did carpentry, plumbing, electrical, you name it, for the Philadelphia public schools for many years.
The book is SUCH a good recommendation, thank you SO much! The little weeding ring!! It's so cute! and so useful! And BOY, i love reading the comments on this video, everybody's got such great suggestions!
Definitely digging on that fume extractor and the the flush saw. Theres a luthier on youtube who uses starbond for almost every guitar project and the stuff seems pretty tough; adding it to my consumables list. The book is pretty awesome too, ima have to keep it in mind as my friends daughter grows up.
Serious question: how do you keep your cuticles/nails looking so nice? As a maker, I’ve always got paint or some other material under my nails, and my cuticles are always a wreck!
OMG, thankyou Jen! I've wanted a Japanese Pull Saw for ages, and you've given me the nudge I needed to order one. This model looks very versatile because it's a moderate size and designed to make flush cuts for softwood and hardwood.
The hood would be better if it also had a set of individually switchable lights around the inside perimeter of the hood. After all, if you're going to have something in your face, it might as well help you see what you're doing.
I've always been skeptical of solder fume extractors because I use actual ventilation that dumps that stuff outside. Curious to know what actually gets collected on those filters, I haven't tested it. A soldering iron isn't going to vaporize any metals so... burnt flux vapors, or something?
I don't really know where to put this, cuz I can't find the suggestion box. I have a nice suggestion for a one-day build and it's the 1989 Batcape. dying to see the technique on how they made it in Action Thanks
