"I'm not special pleading, I'm pleading that Jesus is special!"
@scienceexplains302
@scienceexplains302 Год назад
Testify is special pleading (e.g. in assessing testimony) but pleading that someone is special in some way is not necessarily special pleading. Special pleading is when you make your idea an exception to the rule - apparently to reach the desired conclusion. My family is special to me, but my reasons would be consistent for how I would assess anyone else or how I would assess someone else and their family. For example, I have a lifelong history of good relations during which they helped me a lot when nobody else would.

@@goldenalt3166 to clarify, it is not an issue of personal views. In the first part in the OP, “special” is specific to the named fallacy. In the second part, it is a general word with multiple possible meanings.

5:20 - I am willing to bet a large amount of money that Erik didn't actually read Philostratus because if he did, he would know that Philostratus was very careful to establish that he got his information about Apollonius from an eyewitness: There was a man, Damis, by no means stupid, who formerly dwelt in the ancient city of Nineveh. He resorted to Apollonius in order to study wisdom, and having shared, by his own account, his wanderings abroad, wrote an account of them. And he records his opinions and discourses and all his prophecies [Philostratus: Apollonius 1.3] To put together a journal of such matters-that he was well able to do, and carried it out as well as the best. At any rate the volume which he calls his scrap-book, was intended to serve such a purpose by Damis, who was determined that nothing about Apollonius should be passed over in silence, nay, that his most casual and negligent utterances should also be written down. [Philostratus: Apollonius 1.19] Why does Erik believe what the Gospel of John says about the Beloved Disciple but not what Philostratus says about Damis?
@davethebrahman9870

That Testify fellow gets all his information second hand. Tacitus is not the first to mention the ‘ascension of Romulus’, the story is in both Livy and Ovid (although Livy seems a bit sceptical). I would tell Testify this, but he muted me for correcting him.

The life of Moses and his claims are situated anywhere between the 1500s-1200s BCE, while the writing of his stories happened over half a millennium to over a millennium later, depending on whether you think these stories sprang up during the exile or later. Of course, I can imagine apologists trying to push the narratives of Moses as close to the supposed claimed events. We don't even know exactly where this story was written down originally. Ahhh, but Jesus and his resurrection can be true while Moses could be legend or myth Derek! Sad to say, I don't think this video will nudge anyone driven by faith to see their own nose.

But that's all religious apologists. Nothing unique to Testify. If apologists didn't start with a conclusion and work back, they'd never conclude their religion as true from evidence alone. Which would make apologetics useless since it solely exists to defend religion from logical attacks, not to seek truth. Sadly. You've basically explained the entirety of the issue with religious thinking in one sentence. Circular arguments are all they have.

Good video Derreck. I wanted to bring to your attention a recent book that goes into the connections between Paul and the mystery cults. It supports what we've been saying for the most part. As is usually the case with NT scholars, he gets some things wrong 🤣(we all get some things wrong of course). Other than some of the things he gets wrong, the book is pretty good. Here's his conclusion: Pauline Baptism among the Mysteries: Ritual Messages and the Promise of Initiation (De Gruyter, 2023), Donghyun Jeong: "In this book, I have demonstrated that baptism in the Pauline communities is a ritual analogous to mystery initiation. Both the initiation rituals of the mysteries and baptismal ritual practiced in the Pauline groups are informed by similar socio-cultural understandings of how initiation constructs divine-human and intra-human/ social relationships. Secondly, I have argued that Paul is an innovative interpreter of ritual who recalibrates the messages of preexisting rituals for his theological and ethical program, seeking to radically extend the implications of initiation to the social reality within his Christ-cult groups and the embodied life of every Christ-believer. Thirdly, I have argued that Paul recentralizes religious virtuosity by incorporating the pattern of baptismal initiation into his own apostolic existence. Baptism in Paul’s mid-first century communities shares a certain type of ritual messages with the initiation rituals of the Dionysiac mysteries and the mysteries of Isis. In terms of self-referential messages (or the benefits promised by initiation), baptism was primarily an entry ritual into Paul’s Christ groups (largely consisting of Christ-devotees from pagan backgrounds) in a way similar to the initiation rituals of the mysteries. These rituals of initiation transform individual and communal identity (intra-human relationships are formed), and accordingly create boundaries and norms for the group by which they can identify themselves. Significantly, both Christ-baptism and mystery initiation communicate the self-referential message that ritual participation creates a personalized, trustworthy bond between the deity and devotee(s). As an extension of this bond, the divine pledge of a blessed afterlife (though what this entails might differ) for the devotees is often communicated as part of the promise of initiation, as baptism communicated eschatological promise. These general similarities hold true despite a few noticeable benefits of mystery initiation (e. g., prosperous civic-political life and other earthly λύσις in the Dionysiac mysteries, or the healing and protection of women in the Isis mysteries) that are absent from the Pauline baptism passages... This enables one to see how early Christ baptism participated in the pattern of mystery initiation. Canonical messages about the suffering of the deity (Dionysus, Isis, Christ), the deity’s nearness to the devotees (Dionysus, Christ) as well as sympathy/mercy (Isis, Christ), and the identification (or some type of unity) between the deity and the devotees based on the logic of metonymy (Dionysus, Isis, Christ) are found, mutatis mutandis, in both the mysteries and the description of baptism in the Pauline letters. The emphasis on the devotees’ faith/trust in the deity (in addition to the ritual activity itself ), their right understanding of the meaning of ritual, and as mentioned above, their ethical behavior to maintain order within the cultic community appear in all three groups. This is not surprising given the reciprocal process: one’s participation in and acceptance of ritual (this is part of the self-referential message) gives the canonical order its very existence, which guarantees the efficacy of the benefits promised by the ritual and generates the participant’s obligations."

"The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord." Apologists prove this quite nicely. Erik, like apologists generally, will parrot the ideas of his gurus, like Lydia McGrew, and will always fall back on their authority. The authority is simply correct and so far above the critics as to be incontrovertible. The authority comes up with the ideas and the authoritarian followers take that as marching orders and dogma. You can always find some way to defend the authority and the dogma, and that's precisely what the apologists do: they are quite literally not capable of independent thought, or else they wouldn't have become little apologist foot-soldier sycophants in the first place. The modus operandi is very simple: defend the beliefs, give the favored beliefs every benefit of the doubt and never seek to disconfirm the beliefs. The beliefs are as good as given by God himself, likely believed to be so. Logic and evidence are only relevant inasmuch as they can be used to bolster the belief or defend against objections. "Hold fast to the dogma and test everything against it" is the apologist de facto motto, as opposed to "test everything, hold fast to what is good." Learning and growing are evils when you already have all the answers at the age of 6. Apologists walk by faith and not by sight, yet live in denial of that fact, a fact which is obvious to everyone who isn't a rigid dogmatic authoritarian like them.

Christianity as taught by Christ and the Apostles was a form of occult mysticism. Like all gurus or Grand Master Teachers the true followers are disciples who practice special rituals and meditation practices. Mysticism has its own language and writing styles which often make statements that are supernatural but are representative of spiritual truths and are not taken literally by the true initiates. The Christian apologist, Erik, is the victim of Western Christianity which lost the true gnosis a very long time ago. He is not even aware that the Bible itself contradicts his position that gods and traditions outside of Judaism and Christianity are totally different from the roots of Judaism and Christianity. All humans have a deposit of the Logos, Christ the Word of God according to scripture and all are descended from Adam and Eve made in the Image and Likeness of God. Why should it be strange that other nations and cults would have the same tropes and archetypes? Why would their accounts of miracles be any different in terms of symbolism, exaggeration and pure fictional legend from those of the Bible? The closed God Western version of Christianity does not grasp that the concept of the Chosen People was nothing but an example, a spotlight on how all nations and groups evolve and struggle over time, not some ontological different or special quality of the people of Israel.

The literalness and empirically provableness of a given myth or legend is irrelevant for it's real world effect on society and culture. So why do apologists spend so much time defending the historiography of the gospels? Seems like a waste of energy, when they should be focusing more on inspiring people to follow the actual core, inner spiritual teachings of Jesus's and Paul's message. But this is why you see so many Christians who absolutely and vehemently believe in the virgin birth, for example, and yet scream at their kids and cheat on their taxes and harbor resentment toward others. Wouldn't it make more sense to allow some room for doubt about the historical events, but do a better job of fostering inner peace and contentment and joy? Jesus seems to care more about people "hearts" than he does about their ability to outwardly adhere to established religious traditions.

This was really good, my first time finding your channel. You sound like a voice actor I've heard in the past....maybe, like The Thinking Athiest, you've got a past life on radio or tv? Anyway, I like how you buck the trend by saying, "I want to live forever." Most atheists I listen to say the opposite, they think living forever sounds terrible. I've been reading a bit of science fiction like Egan and listening to physicist like Max Tenger/Sean Carroll (quantum mecanics and multiple worlds) and also some thoughts on Nick Bostrom's ideas about being in a construct. I'd say the Bayesian and Socratic and scientific methodolgy, and logic/math, seem to indicate that we live in a world that isn't what it seems, probably a construct. Thus, having a life beyond our life in a phyiscal body on earth might be what happens (see movie The Thirteenth Floor for a fictional representation of this, not unironically, this movie came out the same year as The Matrix, so was kind of forgotten about, but it represents a likely reality). Personally I'm hoping we live in a construct that we, upon death, get to see for what it is in the next level up universe (which is also a construct). From there, I think it would be cool if we find out universes are sort of like games and we can respawn and play again. It's only fun if we get to remember all our lives when we're in the next level up universe, otherwise, well, what would be the point if we don't know anything or remember anything? That said, if this is it, this is it. I don't live in fear of that being a very likely possibility. I had a good run already, better than most, and who knows, with modern science, we might be living to see 120 or 150 years in the very near future.

Why? Isn't it the whole point of the Bible story that God is suffering, even dieing? At least that's how I read it. If you read the Bible as purely literature (that's what I did first, even though I'm a Christian), it's the story of the supernatural being called YHWH that starts out as the wrathful almighty smiter and becomes ever more involved in human affairs (which already happens in the OT BTW) until he became human and even died. It's the universal myth. But even David Friedrich Strauß, the guy who made Nietzsche lose his faith, acknowledged that there is a difference between myth and legend. Myths express a certain truth while legends are added to make a point about how special someone was. BTW - I think most of the miracles in the NT have a deeper meaning. Like multiplying bread and then collecting 12 baskets of crumbs. The bread is the teaching of Jesus used to collect all the 12 tribes of Israel.

Monad (from Greek μονάς monas, "singularity" in turn from μόνος monos, "alone") refers, in cosmogony, to the Supreme Being, divinity or the totality of all things. The concept was reportedly conceived by the Pythagoreans and may refer variously to a single source acting alone, or to an indivisible origin, or to both. The concept was later adopted by other philosophers, such as Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who referred to the Monad as an elementary particle. It had a geometric counterpart, which was debated and discussed contemporaneously by the same groups of people. [In this speculative scenario, let's consider Leibniz's Monad (first emanation of God), from the philosophical work "The Monadology", as an abstract representation of the zero-dimensional space that binds quarks together using the strong nuclear force]: 1) Indivisibility and Unity: Monads, as indivisible entities, mirror the nature of quarks, which are deemed elementary and indivisible particles in our theoretical context. Just as monads possess unity and indivisibility, quarks are unified in their interactions through the strong force. 2) Interconnectedness: Leibniz's monads are interconnected, each reflecting the entire universe from its own perspective. In a parallel manner, the interconnectedness of quarks through the strong force could be metaphorically represented by the interplay of monads, forming a web that holds particles together. 3) Inherent Properties: Just as monads possess inherent perceptions and appetitions, quarks could be thought of as having intrinsic properties like color charge, reflecting the inherent qualities of monads and influencing their interactions. 4) Harmony: The concept of monads contributing to universal harmony resonates with the idea that the strong nuclear force maintains harmony within atomic nuclei by counteracting the electromagnetic repulsion between protons, allowing for the stability of matter. 5) Pre-established Harmony: Monads' pre-established harmony aligns with the idea that the strong force was pre-designed to ensure stable interactions among quarks, orchestrating their behavior in a way that parallels the harmony envisaged by Leibniz. 6) Non-Mechanical Interaction: Leibniz's monads interact non-mechanically through perceptions. In the context of the strong force, quarks interact through the exchange of gluons, which doesn't follow classical mechanical rules but rather the principles of quantum field theory. 7) Holism: The holistic perspective of monads could symbolize how quarks, like the monads' interconnections, contribute holistically to the structure and behavior of particles through the strong force interactions. em·a·na·tion noun an abstract but perceptible thing that issues or originates from a source.

The whole conceptualization quantum mechanics is founded upon is rather nonsensical. How can a quark be a fundamental particle if it cannot even last a single solitary whole second on its own (not being part of a proton, neutron, or electron) without self obliterating into nothingness? At some point, one must consider that physicists have constructed their own dubious religion around abstract, self-contradictory, unfalsifiable nonsense.

@@ready1fire1aim1 "Quantum entanglement was proven a year ago so its too late haha." I highly doubt that. It is a pretty steep claim to say that you can "entangle" two atoms and then know all of the properties of one just by measuring the other, especially considering all of the other atoms that must necessarily be around it. How exactly do they prevent such entanglement from occurring with all of the other atoms? Is it magic? The fact of the matter is that only a very few people on this planet have access to the equipment that is claimed to be able to perform these experiments, so all most people have to go off of is these people's word that they saw/detected what they claim they saw/detected. And even if they could somehow entangle two atoms, that does not make all of the other nonsense they spout true. "Do you recall shortly thereafter the news talking about quantum physics proving the universe is "not locally real"?" Oh yes, the news. Such a delightfully reliable source of perfectly valid and true information. Who could ever question the news? News reporters never ever make mistakes, nor do they have any biases, political or otherwise. In case you don't get it, this is complete sarcasm. Also, the word "locally" as used by "scientists" is completely subjective and arbitrary, just like everything in their self-contradictory theories. At what distance is something considered "non-local." Is it a planck length? Is it a nanometer? Is it a meter? Is it a kilometer? Is it a light year? There is no real answer. It is whatever abstraction the "scientist" claims it is at the time he makes his claim. Additionally, if "the universe is not locally real," there can be no "real results" to all of their experiments as all localities must be fake/non-real by definition regardless of where they are located which means there is nothing real at all and this undermines the entire foundation of science, which is based on empirical observation of the causal relationships of real phenomena. So, if nothing is real, there is no such thing as science, and there is no such thing as a scientist. (Then again, most of the people that are called scientists today are not scientists at all.) Poppycock. "Leibniz wins" No, he does not. And the fraud in academia is real. I highly doubt the data from your entanglement experiment is any more legitimate than the completely fraudulent data published in the Hafele Keating Experiment which fraudulently claimed to confirm the predicted observations of Einstein's Special Relativity. Most academics are bullsh!tting their way into those tenured positions. The "peer review" is nothing more than the corrupt good 'ol boy's club where "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours." I would point out the Bible has testable, verifiable evidence in the form of specific, fulfilled prophecies - in fact, the Bible is about 1/4 prophecy! In addition to the many, many historical examples of fulfilled prophecy, here are just a few that have happened in the past 100ish years. Israel Scattered and returning to her land: Deuteronomy 28:64 says, "And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other...". Additionally, Ezekiel 36:19-24 says, "I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered through the countries; I judged them according to their conduct and their actions. And wherever they went among the nations they profaned my holy name, for it was said of them, ‘These are the Lord’s people, and yet they had to leave his land.’ I had concern for my holy name, which the people of Israel profaned among the nations where they had gone. “Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes. “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land." This is quite amazing. God said He would scatter Israel throughout the world for their disbelief and return them back to their land. What other people in the history of mankind has been scattered across the world for hundreds/thousands of years and then returned to their homeland (the very same geographic land) as an identifiable people? This isn't just being moved from one place to another place after being conquered - it is being literally scattered throughout the world. This is unprecedented throughout the history of humankind and yet the Bible said it would happen way before 1948 when Israel was reborn as a nation. In fact, Jews have been returning to Israel from all over the world such as: China, The US, Japan, Russia, India, France, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Canada, the UK, South Africa, etc. The land divided: We are also told the land will be divided in Joel 3:1-2, which says, "In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land". Notice that last part "...and divided up My land". It was foretold that the land would be divided! Logically, if it weren't divided then God couldn't put the nations on trial for dividing it. Yes, Israel is back in a part of the very same land they used to have just as foretold, but the land has been divided as well (and nations continue dividing and/or trying to divide it to this day). The land was in fact divided by Britain, who was in charge of making this land a place for the Jewish people. Instead much of the land was given to the Arabs/"Palestinians". This was formalized in the United Nations Partition Plan which was adopted by the UN General Assembly On 29 November 1947 Resolution 181. This was written WAY before 1947/1948, yet we now see that the land has been divided by the nations and they keep dividing/trying to divide it to this day. Although this did not actually create the nation of Israel, it divided the ancestral land of the Jews. The country reborn in 1 day: What's more, the Bible said Israel would be reborn as a nation in 1 day. Isaiah 66:7-8 says, "Before she goes into labor, she gives birth; before the pains come upon her, she delivers a son. Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children." This happened May 14, 1948 when Israel declared itself to be a nation and President Truman (the US being a superpower of the time) formally acknowledged them as such. Contrast this with the founding of the US - they declared themselves to be a nation with the declaration of independence in 1776, but no countries acknowledged them as a nation at that time. In fact, the first country to declare them a nation was Morocco in 1777 and the first major world power of the time to acknowledge them was France in 1778. Yet, in the case of Israel, Britain's mandate over the land ended at midnight on May 14, 1948 and Israel declared themselves to be a nation and were recognized as a nation in this one day - fulfilling the prophecy with stunning precision! Let's step back now and think about these prophecies. The Bible makes the claim that the Jewish people would be scattered throughout the entire world and return to the very land they were in as an identifiable people. To put into perspective just how bold this prophecy is, this feat has never happened to any other people throughout the history of humankind. In essence, the Bible predicted something that has never happened throughout human history would happen to a specific people long before it happened, and it came to pass exactly as foretold! As if that wasn't enough, it foretold that this very land would be divided among the nations, which we know also happened in 1947/1948 and beyond. Even more, it foretold that the nation of Israel would be "born" in 1 day - which happened with stunning accuracy on May 14, 1948! There isn't any other religion out there that offers these kinds of specific prophecies that we know with 100% certainty were written well before they happened. We don't need to simply have blind faith in something - we should have a good reason for what we believe and the Bible provides it! Why not accept the gift of salvation today? 1 Corinthians 15:2-4, "By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures," John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life". Additionally, here is a fabulous, short message on what must we do to be saved (only about ten mins). For something with eternal consequences, it makes sense to at least hear it out right? :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nWEMY-Su20k.html

When will you numbskulls learn that the "word of God" is the elite priestly authors speaking for their imaginary god? That's why Yahweh contradicts himself. You guys have shackled yourselves to a fantasy and you're too scared to let it go. --------------------------------------------------------- From a Biblical scholar: "So for example, when we read carefully what Yahweh says in the book of Leviticus, namely that the Aaronids (the sons of Aaron only), are high priests contrary to the Levites, that they alone are Yahweh’s mediators and the Levites are reduced to mere ministers of the Aaronids, that only through sacrifice can one atone for sins and not confession as preached by the Levites, or more precisely the Levite’s Yahweh, etc., *it can be no coincidence that in these laws and commandments,* ***which are placed on the mouth of Yahweh,*** *that Yahweh himself is presented advocating and legitimating the very views and beliefs of the specific priestly guild writing the text, and,* ***contrary*** *to the views and beliefs of their rivals, the Levites and the Levite’s Yahweh!* We will examine this more closely when we get to the contradictions in these books. But in short, this was the function of ancient literature, and we are allowing these ancient texts to speak for themselves. *In this particular case, the Levites and Aaronids wrote specific texts that each advocated their religious beliefs, views, and their position as high priests* ***by writing these sentiments directly into the mouth of their god!*** But just studying the Bible alone, scientifically, affords us the occasion *to see that many of these so-called words of Yahweh are* ***actually the very words of the texts’ authors.*** When we see numerous texts employing this ancient literary technique, and moreover, ***presenting Yahweh as the spokesperson for their own views and agenda,*** *and* ***contrary*** *to Yahweh’s other words in other texts written by other authors employing the same technique,* how can one conclude otherwise. In other words, when in the composite text that we now call the Bible we find: Yahweh declaring that only Aaronids can officiate as his priests and Yahweh declaring that all Levites can officiate as high priest; Yahweh declaring that sin is atoned through confession and Yahweh declaring that sin is only expiated through the sacrificial cult, no exceptions; Yahweh declaring that he gave laws and commandments at Sinai and Yahweh declaring that he only gave the Ten Commandments at Sinai; Yahweh commanding to exterminate all the Canaanites without pity and Yahweh declaring to tolerate them and live in their midst; Yahweh declaring that the wilderness generation were disloyal and rebellious and Yahweh declaring that they were a paradigm of loyalty and faith; Yahweh declaring that he may be offered sacrifices at any altar and Yahweh declaring that there is only one altar where sacrifices are to be offered up; Yahweh declaring that the people saw him at Sinai and Yahweh declaring that they only heard his voice; Yahweh declaring that circumcision is an eternal covenant and keeping the land depends on observing this very commandment and Yahweh declaring the Mosaic laws as the covenant and keeping the land is dependent on keeping these laws; Yahweh declaring that he dwells in the midst of the people and Yahweh declaring that he only resides in heaven; Yahweh commanding Passover to be celebrated by all at Jerusalem and Yahweh commanding it to be celebrated at each person’s home; Yahweh commanding that animals for consumption must be ritually sacrificed and Yahweh commanding that they don’t have to be sacrificed ritually, etc. ***one must conclude that Yahweh is being used by these authors, each with their own contrary views and beliefs as a spokesperson for each of these authors’ agendas.*** These are all the personal, and competing, views, theological beliefs, and religious systems of our biblical authors. And this is only the tip of the iceberg." *"Studying the Bible"* - Dr Steven DiMattei *"How do we know that the biblical writers were not writing history?"* - Dr Steven DiMattei *"Contradictions in the Bible | Identified verse by verse and explained using the most up-to-date scholarly information about the Bible, its texts, and the men who wrote them"* -- by Dr. Steven DiMattei

@@kamilgregor It is great evidence for the book it came from. :) I would also like to present a few Biblical end times prophecies that are now feasible given the technology needed for them to take place is now a real possibility - and warn you and anyone reading that you may be running out of time before the worst 7 years in human history occurs (commonly known as the tribulation period). These events take place during this prophesied 7 year period. Revelation 11:7-10 says, "Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city-which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt-where also their Lord was crucified. For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth." How could people from every tribe, language and nation gaze upon their bodies at the time this was written? This wasn't even a possibility 150 years ago, much less 2,000ish years ago. Now with smartphones, laptops, tv, starlink, etc. we have the technology to make this a reality. Either the writer (John) somehow guessed future technology, or he was actually shown the future. Another such prophecy that we can see the "shadows" creeping in, is the coming mark known as the mark of the beast (which will happen during the tribulation period that Revelation talks about) that will be forced on people in order to buy or sell. Revelation 13:16-17 says, "It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name." The technology is here now for such a mark with all the microchips we have and even Bill Gates patent for a Quantum Dot Tattoo (note: I'm not saying this is the mark, however, the technology now exists to pull it off). As far as we know, nothing even resembling this technology existed when this prophecy was written, so again, either the writer (John) somehow guessed future technology, or was actually shown the future. I'm not date setting with these, but I am pointing out that we now have the necessary technology for them to take place. The problem is we are all lawbreakers. There isn't anything special about me compared to you, in fact I'm a guilty lawbreaker deserving of hell. Jesus Christ is the one who did all the work - He died and took your punishment and mine upon Himself when He died on the cross - taking death, separation from God and God's wrath against sin upon Himself. He became our sin as 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God". He did that just so you, me and anyone who believes/puts their trust in Him and His payment for sins could be spared from hell and spend eternity with Him. John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 1 Corinthians 15:2-4, "By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures," I don't know if you are interested or not, but here is a message on what the gospel is (and wrong responses to it that are, unfortunately, much too common in the evangelical community). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9pRUl9AHrtg.html
