I thank you so much for being transparent about your story and sharing this. I have carried so much shame over this disease for years. I dated a guy back when I was in college for about 2 years and ended up sleeping with him. He gave me HSV2. Besides one other guy right after him and I broke up (the 2nd guy forced it but I also made a lot of stupid decisions leading up to it) I haven’t had sex with anyone since. It has now been 10 years since I have had sex. I vowed to wait until marriage, and like you, I feel like contracting this disease finally woke me up and helped me to start taking my walk with God more seriously. But at the same time, I still struggle with shame and having thoughts of “ who would ever want me?” I go through seasons of feeling confident like God will heal and and then if I get an outbreak it gets hard for me to stay in faith. I also fell into the trap of listening to a bunch of different people on the topic of healing (sermons, podcast, etc..) and I wondered why the church is so divided on this topic. Some say God will heal, just believe, and others say it’s not always God’s will to heal here on earth but that we will one day be healed of every sickness in eternity when we go to be with Jesus. Why is scripture interpreted differently from different people? Still, I have hope that God will heal me on earth but I do struggle. I also met a guy two years ago that said he wanted to marry me, only I kept pushing him away because I knew once I told him everything about my past, he would not want to be with me. He was persistent in his pursuit and told me that whatever happened in my past, we can work it out. I prolonged it which was very selfish of me. I should’ve just been up front, or just end the relationship instead of wasting his time. We never had sex but we did have some lustful “make out” sessions which I understand I should not have done. Sorry if this is too much info but I hate keeping everything bottled up. One day he asked to fondle me and I let him while getting caught up in the moment of us making out. I freaked out and made him wash his hands after twice. After that he asked me if I had an std the next day and I told him I had never actually been tested for it but my ex basically told me that his ex gave it to him. Yet, I knew I had HSV2 because I had outbreaks before. I just didn’t know whether or not I had HSV1 because I had never had an oral outbreak. The truth is, I received a full panel after the rape (the 2nd guy right after my ex) but I never heard back from the clinic. I could’ve tried to call but I really didn’t want to face the diagnosis. I know it sounds crazy but I did not want to physically see it. I understand how irresponsible of me that was. I wanted to try to leave everything that happened in the past and just try to move on. Up until this guy from two years ago, I had never had a reason to tell anyone about my past because I wasn’t dating or having sex. Long story short, the guy I met two years ago gets very angry (rightfully so). He went and got tested for everything. We didn’t speak for 2 weeks. But from what he told me, I was convinced that he now might be trying to sue me. He said he felt a tingle in his throat after kissing me. I fell into a deep depression and I think that was the closest I ever got to seriously contemplating suicide. I hated that I lied. I hated that I wasn’t up front with him. I hated that I still felt so much guilt and shame after repenting for what I did. I prayed that God would cover him and that he would come back with all tests negative. Eventually he called and told me that all of his tests came back negative praise God. We didn’t speak for a while after this. That was march of last year. During this past year I have really been focusing on my walk with God. I got baptized and I have been more intentional about staying in God’s word and turning away from my sin. I realized just how much I need Jesus and how easy it is to fall into sin when not connected to Jesus. Over this past year God has shown me other things in my life that I needed to rid myself of, which I have and I am still in process of doing with the help of the Holy Spirit. I just have a strong desire to be close to Him, to know Him and I want to honor Him with my life. After getting baptized, one of the women that prayed over me told me that she believed God already healed me and to let her know my results when I get the test. I went and got a full panel the next day. It was some random hospital I chose in my area that had a woman’s clinic. My mom drove me to the appointment and as we were pulling up, she told me that this was the hospital where I was born. I was in disbelief. Immediately, I become flooded with emotion and start tearing up because for a second I had a thought about how when we come to Christ and are born again, we become a new creation. The old has past and the new has come. I go inside and the doctor tells me that if I have HSV2 then statistically speaking, I will also have HSV1. I told her I believe the tests would come back negative (but I said it with hesitation). Of course she looked at me like I was crazy. I go and I get the test. When my results came back, I ended up testing negative for everything except HSV2. So I was happy that by the grace of God I don’t have HSV1 but I still have HSV2. Then I went back a week later saying I wanted another test. At that point I was attempting to act with boldness and believe that God will heal. My test still came back positive for HSV 2 the second time. I started feeling really discouraged again after that but I knew that no matter the circumstance, God is still sovereign. I will praise him no matter what. While I still struggled thinking a lot about the guy from last year, I knew that the relationship wasn’t honoring to God, as much as in my flesh, I still want to be with him. He was very heavy into new age practices (zodiac, horoscope, meditation, yoga, angel numbers, referring to God as “the universe”etc…) I knew from the beginning that it wasn’t going to work but I was stubborn. I knew God didn’t want this relationship, but I rebelled. I still really wanted to be with him. It’s as if all the years that I prayed for a Godly husband and for me to be in a purpose-filled marriage that honors God…and all that completely went out the window when I met him. When we dated, I selfishly tried to change him. I would pray with him and read scripture with him hoping he would renounce the new age and come to Christ. But I know I can’t change him, only God can renew a person. Again, Long story short, God freed me from the depression. I still have moments of sadness thinking about my past and everything I did but I keep reminding myself of Romans 8:1 and I’m trying to focus now on using my life to honor God through ministry at my church. Then boom! Out of the blue, I get a call from the guy (that I dated last year) 5 days ago. I was on my way to physical therapy (I sprained my ankle at work)….and I see his number flash across my screen. I was very hesitant to pick up and didn’t initially. But out of curiosity, I called him back. He seemed very calm. We had some small talk asking what each of us has been up to. Then he asked me if I ever received my test results from last year. I told him yes and I said I tested positive for hsv2. I told him a little about my past (what I hesitated to tell him when we were dating) but I was still holding back the part of me knowing all along (due to symptoms), being afraid to admit it. I told him I was sorry for everything I put him through. He said it was ok, then he ended the conversation by saying he was just checking on me and to have a great rest of my day. As soon as I hung up, I was flooded with guilt again because i was being deceptive about me always knowing I had it. I repented again and asked God to help me to stop being afraid to be transparent out of fear of being judged by people or embarrassment. I hate that this is so hard for me to talk about…but the Bible also says in James 5:16 to confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. So here I am confessing my mess. I’m praying for anyone else that may feel like you have been suffering in silence. You are not alone. God is sovereign and as long as you are breathing, it’s is never too late for Him to orchestrate something beautiful out of your life for His glory. Hi Felicia. Ironic that we have the same name and I know I did not come by your channel on accident. I was going to email you, but decided to post here. In 2016 February 29th, God also healed me from the same STD. This is the same day I also became saved. When I found out I had contracted it, I immediately knew I could no longer date the same again (this was before I came to know Christ). So what I ended up doing was researching and finding a dating website for people who had STD's (yes it exists). I knew I couldnt mess around with anyone, knowing what I knew. The way I found out I had it was because I had an outbreak. What's crazy was, when I went to the Doctor's office, she didnt want to tell me what I had (I guess she saw the sheer fear in my eyes), so she ended up diagnosing me with 'folliocolitus' which is a skin inflammation from using rusty shaving razors. In my heart, I knew it wasn't follocolitus. Fast foward, I ended up having a 2nd outbreak and went to thr doctor. This doctor immediately called it out as soon as she saw it and she ran took my blood and urine to confirm. Well, a couple days went by and I started to get worried because I didnt hear back from her office. Even though I knew what it was, I was still afraid to hear it. I ended up calling her office and told her I was calling for my results and I could literally hear the disbelief in her voice over the phone. When she spoke she said, "it's negative." It felt like time stood still in that moment. I couldnt believe what she said, so much to the point I had to see it in black and white for myself. I ended up scheduling an appointment with records to get a physical copy of the test paperwork. When I got it, I read it clearly...Negative. To this day, I keep those results in my glove department in my car. I ended up giving my life to Jesus right in the Kaiser Permanete parking lot, in my car and have never been the same since.. For anyone who posted they are crying and upset don’t be. Herpes is one of the most common STD’s.. millions of people have it. I’m not overly sexual and most people don’t even show symptoms or it’s easy to miss if you never saw it before. A condom doesn’t fully cover any open cuts or sores and it’s difficult to see especially if the person has body hair. I’ve had Herpes2 for 7 years if your young like me and the girl who posted this you won’t show symptoms or have a break out once or twice a year max usually when your immune is down, oncoming period, or cold or flu. Your 1st breakout will be the worst and it will feel like you have the flu. You won’t breakout everywhere, a few spots that looks like a raindrop and your body will heal where the virus will remain dormant. THERE IS NO KNOWN CURE FOR HERPES as the virus hides in the spine and reproduces differently which makes the body miss the virus of why it always comes back. When you have an outbreak make sure to get rest and take LYSINE tablets which will boost your immune. Stay away from the amino acid L-Arginine which agitates the virus and makes it come out from being dormant. I’m a Christian and 1 year celibate.

isn’t herpes incurable by definition? there are just periods of remission, which you are probably in.

You are probably in remission because genital herpes is cyclical. It comes and goes over time. By now you will have had more episodes. They may become less frequent over time but you will be infected for life.
