@@Broba_Fett Yeah, the Playdate should be S-tier. Hearing them complain about the screen is ridiculous, that Sharp Memory LCD screen has insanely high contrast, especially under daylight conditions, and it's the whole reason the device exists. It's a retroreflective screen, so obviously it doesn't work well if all the lights are in front of you (studio) and not behind or above you (living room, the sun). And some of the games on it are fire.
The trackpads on the steamdeck are incredible! You can configure them to be weapon wheels or custom menus for games, it makes playing PC games with complex controls actually possible portably.
The issue here is that you need to do all of that configuration for each game (or even if there's a community config you need to learn it with all of the random idiosyncracies that come with some random person's idea of a good custom control scheme) and it still leaves you with small touchpads instead of a mouse. I'm sure it's useful but it's definitely not fit everyone
Yeah, the track pads are what pushed the SD ahead of the ROG Ally for me. Even if I do have to dual boot it to play windows games, or go through multiple hoops of trickery to get non-steam games to play on the Steam OS side. Then again, I love that kind of thing, too, so win-win tbh
When you mod a Vita (takes about five minutes, one-time process), I'd say it instantly becomes an S-Tier console. Emulates basically everything until the PSP. Still using mine to this day, got it when I was in year 7, and I'm 23 now. The modding & homebrew communities have really breathed new life into the Vita.
@@chrys9256It’s a reflective screen so I assume their studio lights were behind the screen with no lights behind them and a lot of light in front. A backlight could be cool but the screen is really nice in practically any daylight lighting condition and is pretty much the best screen under sunlight, so this is kinda just user error imo. Also massively undersold the entire concept of the console (a community supported ecosystem with every console being a devkit to make games on for others) and the huge indie community it has, which I assume was down to them not being told about any of the device beyond a one line summary.
@@dpgwalter Yes, because that's exactly how most people play games, under direct sunlight, it's not like the sun ever goes down or that people might want to play at home or anything dumb like that, totally user error.
Seeing people review/use the calculator (and playing games on it) literally use like everyday feels so weird. And it just reminded me that I have a math exam in a few days.
Happy to see the TI-84 Plus CE featured! You can jailbreak the calculator to run games using Artifice. I made a whole video on why TI tried (and failed) to lock down the calculator. If you have any question I'm happy to answer!
the best ones are actually the $40 Miyoo Mini Plus for games before N64, the $44 RG35XXH for PSP games and before, and $200 Retroid Pocket 4 pro for switch games and before unless you have steam deck money and dont mind such a big device. Also the steam deck can have windows on it so they clearly did almost zero research for this video
The Steam Deck can have Windows on it but putting Windows on it kills a lot of the advantages it has over other handhelds, it's not as simple as "just put Windows on it lol"
Man i had a TI-89 Titanium and HP 50G in college and wasted so many hours putting and playing games on them, programming small scripts on them for physics class, etc. I kind of enjoyed the process tbh.
Oh wow finally someone who said they’d prefer carrying an actually portable device rather than a Steam Deck. I’m so tired of these chonky modern handhelds, give me back thin and pocketable devices pleaseeee.
Honestly, it's pure nostalgia for both. Miles never had the magic of getting some color after playing black and white for years and that's why the Gameboy Color speaks to so many of us
I like this video cause you get to see how spoiled the new generation is and the ones that work at MK studio. Then the rest of us that grew up with the incremental improvements appreciate it. I wonder how a 9 year old now would play with a gameboy or ds
I figured out how to unbrick the TI-84CE calculator. Just takes some time and understanding on how to read code and alter it by tapping into the physical hardware.
As someone that spent many hours (and battery sets) on my ti83 in school and later on the ti89 in university playing games after quickly finishing the tasks, I can say it is S tier as official school gear. I still have my pc link cable (with serial port and not usb) to this day and my ti89 still works fine.
I chose the GPD Win Max 2. It's smaller than a Steam Deck in terms of width, is a full blown laptop with keyboard and clamshell lid, and has a great built-in gamepad. I absolutely love it and it's both my daily PC as well as my primary gaming device.
4:46 I mean, I'm 24 and I still grew up with the GBC and GBA (as well as DS/DSi of course), same with a lot of my friends. So being 23 isn't really that he was "too young" for a GBC imo.
An FPGA based device like the analogue pocket does things different as compared to a Steam deck . Steam deck plays AAA well. Analogue pocket don’t but it does hardware emulation better than steam deck’s software based emulation due to the fact that the pocket is a FPGA based device . An lastly , I do have an oled steam deck . It’s fantastic but based on my experience, loading games takes long at times or the deck freezes when I load a game . For pocket, I don’t have any issues so far . So user experience matters as well. Seems like the pocket is well built too. But that’s subjective . Great video either ways.
I had an OG Tamagotchi that was in Chinese... has to learn by trial and error how to use it. Then my brother and sister got one each, but theirs had a link cable and they could battle them! (And they were in English)
I hope Sony has been taking notes since the pandemic that we want a new PSP. Just make sure the games are coming out as we play and purchase ! We will support fully!
Something that should be mentioned about the Ally and Steam Deck is that if you only care about it running Windows, it's not hard to install Windows on the Steam Deck.
Has Andrew actually ever used a IBM Thinkpad? How do you compare a pointing stick (the red nub) to a optical mouse? Also, is Miles also afraid of keyboards, since they have so many buttons?
I don't disagree with the ranking for the Flip DS, but them not realizing that when you close the lid on a windows device, it's gonna go dark on you it's pretty dumb
It would make for really boring programming to show the whole thing but we closed it, opened it back up, and attempted to get Windows back and running for like 5 minutes before stopping. Bottom screen was on, top screen was a brick. Didn't feel like taking the time to figure it out, I'd expect for $1500 it shouldn't require so much finessing
