I came here to say this exact same thing - the fact that it had any talk of storage capacity/requirements implies a likelihood of some sort of computer circuitry in there, and that he plugged it into his computer I'd be a bit worried that it has some small USB drive with an autorun in there that ran when he plugged it in.

I had a similar USB Fridge that did actually work at cooling the cans but it usually took around 24 hours before the plate inside actually got cool and then another several hours for the can to cool. Yes, I was gifted one that holds a six-pack. It comes with its own power supply and 12v car adapter, and they still sell for cheaper than what he paid for that one. They do work, but the technology limits them to cooling about 30 degrees F below ambient temperature, so how useful depends on when and where you use them.

While this statement is true for devices are configured to request 9v, 12v, 20v over the USB. The soda cooling product is just a fan. There isn't refrigerator unit or heat exchanger, nor insulation to hold in cooling once extracted. There are a lot of that on TEMU like the ultrasonic cleaner for $4 which takes a single AAA battery and is just a rumble motor under the plastic bed. Real cleaners should be metal beds, have big power supplies, and normally start around $30 for the most barebone tiny capacity models.

Likely the "mini-fridge" uses a peltier plate to attempt to cool - I have a larger version - a "solid state" fridge which sorta does work, but they're really not reliable. I'm slightly surprised the mini fridge did nothing as I have seen reviews for similar mini fridges for years with people saying they work pretty well even if not exactly like a regular refrigerator. Of course such things get made by different companies and are made cheaper and cheaper as time goes on. Another use for the bottle caps would be using the different colors to mark your bottle from someone else's in a situation where you might sit it down near another.

This is a cheap knock-off that lacks basic insulation and seals. The cooling disks can work, but they have to actually have heat sinks to work. There is a reason why the "instructions" use the word "play". It's a toy.

@f.i.b3027 4 месяца назад

@kmcd6140
@kmcd6140 4 месяца назад
@@f.i.b3027 I stand by what I wrote. No heatsinks for the fan to blow over = little to no cooling (or heat leaching/sinking), and whatever there might be would be highly inefficient. Thus, crap. $1 worth of aluminum + pennies worth of insulation and sealing would turn that into something half-decent. You also have to understand that 1 of the ways these cheapos get away with it is they make a percentage with proper materials and parts, then they skimp out at the end as they run out the rest of the primary look-alikes. Most of the bads will never get returned. That's 1 of the reasons why you end up with 1 person with a great experience and another with total crap. They also do this with contract manufacturing. Build out the contract amount, then run the rest of the parts, even if they don't have all of them. And that's legal in some places.

While the results of your "fizz tests" seemed to validate the caps, be aware that the different profiles of the glasses has a profound effect on the fizz from a pour. Your open bottle glass (your left, our right) affected the results. That open curved shape tends to preserve the fizz. I found this out in Dublin, Ireland where I saw that Guinness has a VERY specific glass shape that must be used (as well as a very specific two-part pour) to get the correct "head" on the drink. (Side note: I also found out why the Guinness we get here in the States sucks compared to the real deal in Ireland and the UK. )

An update regarding amps on the mini fridge would be nice. If you had a low amp output adapter or cable, and it needed a high amp one like the 3 amp chargers, then that might be the problem. It probably won't make a difference, but it's plausible. If it came with that cable or adapter, then even if it did work with another, then that's basically false advertising.

The problem with these cheap drink coolers is that they use a Peltier module for cooling. One side gets cold, the other side gets hot. The real issue is, Peltier modules are _notoriously inefficient._ The module is cooling down the can's bottom, which doesn’t really transfer the heat efficiently enough. Not to mention, it's running off 5V which is not a lot of cooling power. I wish they made them with USB-C PD which would allow up to 20 volts and 100 watts of cooling power.

They don't seem to have a long life. In a year's time, we've gone thru 2. Since we only needed it for one small bottle, the one you reviewed looked ideal. Bummer.

Bonus thought: I've noticed that clear sodas seem to lose their fizz faster than dark sodas. I looked into it and it turns out I was right, clear sodas have something in them that breaks down the bubbles faster.

I guess as long as there is stock, and suckers willing to pay, then someone is going to keep selling it. I will say this, someone gave me a USB drink warmer at a work Christmas party several years back, and with a 2 amp wall wart it does what it claims.

Fridge? Play? Yeah, that's a toy with potential malware or power issues. No insulation or even a simple seal. Expect about 2-3 degrees of difference from the outer room at most. The silicone caps can't hold the pressure of modern carbonation. Good enough to keep the yellow jackets out of your root beer, but not perfect. The leaks are from the pressure. That is a bad handle, but a "pitcher pour" would help. That's 1 hand on the handle as pivot and lifting the bottom with the other. I would still want something to close it off. Something that can take the pressure. Heck, even a seltzer top would be better. For the $1.20(?), I'd say the caps would be good to have, but we mostly drink products with twist-offs. Plus, we have reusable bottles/tumblers.

That mini fridge is an absolute scam. There are mini fridges like that, that actually work, they have a device in the bottom called a Peltier Junction that moves heat away but those are ''only'' 24V not 5v and they require a fan to move the heat off the other side of the Peltier Junction or it will self destruct. I am an electronics guy and I would bet that all the USB does is power the little LED and the aluminum in the bottom is just that, a piece of aluminum. Send it to me and I will make a video opening it up and showing what is really inside!

I think the bottle caps can be usable. I don't see them used so much as covering any fizzy drink bottles. The best use might be to cover beer and soda bottles when drinking outside summertime to prevent critters getting into the bottle. Also there are some condiment and spice bottles that the caps could cover if the original cap is lost.

@CommodoreFan64
@CommodoreFan64 4 месяца назад
Yep that's all the cheaper ones are, and they are not even insulated to hold in cold air. To be fair there are some more expensive ones out there that are insulated, run on a higher amp USB wall wart, and have a fan/cold plate, but at that point you might as well just use a normal fridge, or if you're in a cube farm for work, then just use an insulated mug, or small cooler with an ice pak, as they are cheaper, and work just as well.

The USB fridge is suspicious for malware. There's no legitimate reason for consuming RAM and disk space. By default (the tyranny of the default) Windows will run whatever the device wants. Code can run without anything visual or any prompts. Elevation prompt will still come up, but don't rely on that. Disable AutoRun guys. Linux will auto mount, but not autorun. No idea about MacOS.

yeah the cooler that you are looking at needs no software - it's not a real fridge and only brings cans down to 10° below room temp. Before my coca cola one broke and died I would leave it on all the time. - now I just wrap my cans in a wet paper towel and punt them in the freezer for 5 minutes haha.

Hello James, This was a fun video to watch. I bought a USB mini fridge a number of years ago for about I think £17. I was not impressed at all. Mine also was cheaply made with rubbish plastic. It had a warm and cool function. It could only fit in a regular 330ml drinks can. The result was that the bottom of the can got a little cold and the top not so much. I was very disappointed because something like this can be useful. I have mine laying around somewhere and bought a larger portable fridge for my room and that mains powered device works much better.

Even if they're not good for their intended purpose, silicon bottle caps might be good for food/water dishes for stuff like crested geckos and juvenile tarantulas. At least that's what I use for my Ts EDIT: Oh my god taking a closer look I think I have those exact caps in some of my enclosures! Literally looking at one of the blue ones in my caribena versicolor's habitat rn

I'm pretty sure that mini fridge is just a heatsink and a fan. I'm not sure in what universe that is supposed to cool a drink! It could actually work if they used a thermoelectric cooling plate, but it would cost over $100 at that point.

Not only can the mini fridge be potentially hiding malicious software that could be installed onto your PC, but all it's really doing is blowing a fan on your soda can. A USB cable isn't powerful enough to run anything that would 'cool' a can of liquid.

Do you drink the Blue Moon with a slice of orange as a garnish? The Brewers say that with the slice of orange you get the full taste. They even went around to bars to make sure they were serving their beer right by having it garnished with the orange slice.

I'm just going to wait for those USB fridges to flop so I can get them on bulk discount and harvest the peltier coolers from them. That's basically all it's doing. The specific type of cooler that they're using in that fridge is mad expensive too

I doubt they have peltiers in them. I'm willing to bet their "peltier" is a fan blowing on a piece of metal which is not a peltier at all.
