So many options! Have always loved the AAE hybrid 26 vanes but want led to really start testing more.
This test is not perfect but hopefully shows you that different vanes do fly a little different. Overall I was pleased with all of them and picked these 7 as they are all great options.
This test was done in the same session with the 60 yard shots multiple shots and the 70 yards just one time through. The 60 yard shots I feel pretty confident in the results but the 70 there are a few that are off. These are ones I would want to spend a lot more time with and past 60 the lab radar does not seem as consistent. Still really neat to see downrange speed.
I fletched all of these 4 fletch right helical as my bow clocks to the right. 4 fletch is a lot of vane with some of these but has never steered me wrong in regards to broadhead flight.
Let us know what vane you prefer. Does it really matter if they steer your broadheads?
Downrange speed is not the only important factor. We plan to test all of these with sound downrange as well.
Vanes tested:
AAE Hybrid 26
AAE Max Stealth
Bohning Blazer
Bohning Heat Vanes
TAC Vanes
AAE Max Hunter Vanes
DCA Super Sabre Vanes
Total arrow weights range from 461-471. I use Victory Rip elite at 29.5 inches with very small wraps and black eagle nocks.

Thanks for the review man! Well done and well presented. The Sabres are super stable and super quiet. They also spin faster and quicker out of the bow than lower profile vanes. They've also a lot quieter than the Hunter profile. Thanks again!

Levi Morgan did the same thing basically a month or two ago. The “faster” vanes are simply faster because of the weight. The arrows are almost 10g lighter

Great video. As of right now I’m trying to make a decision on whether to go with heat vanes or tac vanes. Only leaning towards the heat vanes because I have two 100 packs of them. Now debating if I want to go 4 fletch or 3 fletch. These will be my total archery challenge arrows and my hunting arrows. Going with easton sonics just have to figure out what I want to use for vanes now 🤔 very much appreciate this video!! I subscribed.

Thank you so much! That is a tough call for sure. The TAC vanes might stabilize a little better if you shoot fixed heads but were harder to fletch for me. I would be curious how they stabilize a fixed head since they are lower profile. We are planning to be at broken bow TAC. Thanks so much for stopping by! -Kyle

I believe one of the factors is stiffness in the vanes creates less flutter thereby decreasing noise and increasing speed.

Hi, I just found your video. It looks like you are doing your testing at the backcountry wilderness area in Colorado. I live close by and would love to collaborate on some arrow testing. I’ve been running firenock aero vanes and would like to see how they stack up in you list. Also, it would be nice to see a chart of speed degradation over distance to really get a good idea of how well everything stacks up against each other.

Switched to Rayzr feathers for hunting. 4 feathers weighs less than one vane. 4 feathers and a lighted x nock weighs the same as 3 blazers and a regular x nock. I’d be curious to see how much of the velocity gain is lost at 60 yards. Ever since the lab radar came out I’ve thought of doing this but never had the money to buy one and have seen mixed results with them. If only it could integrate the velocity and give you flight times too.

That is interesting.. Would love to see vid if you do a test. Lab radars are much cheaper now that the Garmin came out. I’ve seen some go for $200-$300. The Garmin looks great but doesn’t give downrange speed so I still prefer the lab radar. -Kyle

Every arrow would have to weigh the same or , at least within 1-2 grain for this test to be accurate..
@TrueLineOutdoors
@TrueLineOutdoors 4 месяца назад
Agreed. My approach was to see with same number of vanes which ones held speed well and that vanes are all different weights. For example TAC are way lighter than the max stealth. The lighter vanes are faster at all distance but some vanes do hold speed a little better. It also helped confirm if you shoot a good vane there is not a lot of difference.

Were you adjusting your sight for each vane? I've shot pretty much every vane you tested and the TAC vanes always shoot considerably higher than the others. Especially compared to hybrid 26's and blazers.
@TrueLineOutdoors
@TrueLineOutdoors 7 месяцев назад
Hello! I wasn’t! I also wasn’t trying to shoot super tight just aiming dead center and focused on the lab radar. The difference is 10 grains and at 70 yards I’m not expecting a huge difference. I did a test with lighted nocks that were much heavier and barely saw a difference at 100 yards. How much of a difference are you seeing and at what distances? Maybe I should fletch 3 of each and get a true group test. -Kyle

@@TrueLineOutdoors ok so I just reviewed a recent picture I took. I shot aae hybrid 26's, aae hybrid hp's, TAC driver 2.75, and TAC driver 2.25 4 fletch. The other 3 are 3 fletch on a left 3 degree helical. The 26's shot the lowest, and both TAC set ups shot about 10 inches higher at 80 yards.

I didn’t as I fletched one of each for now. I’m planning to do sound test with all 7. I’m not always consistent group testing so would be a little concerned the results would have human error but that is a good idea. Would also like to see how these all handle broadheads as I typically shoot QAD exodus and in the past the 4 fletch AAE hybrid has been my standard as they steer so well. For both of those would need to fletch 3 of each we will see. Really appreciate you reaching out! Let us know if you have a go to vane. -Kyle

I'd be more concerned with accuracy. A few fps isn't as important. I wonder if the slower speed means energy was transfered into spin or just more drag. Theoretically more spin is more accuracy. So the slower arrows may be more accurate.

So, which vane lost the least speed over its flight?
@TrueLineOutdoors
@TrueLineOutdoors 7 месяцев назад
The design of the DCA and max hunter seemed to hold speed pretty well consistently for their weight. To say which one is a clear winner I would want to do many times each and take an average but I would vote max hunter for holding speed and DCA close second. The Heat vanes also did well but my 70 shot with them did not get a great read so I’m hesitant on those. I think the design of the max hunter and DCA does make a small difference but will keep testing more. Hope that helps! -Kyle

Thank you! I bought since they are like half off now.. That is a great idea. What speeds are you shooting? What arrow weight ? Type of bow, compound,recurve,long bow, self bow? Is your bow tuned? These are some of the major factors as well as your personal shooting style and skill ( ie torquing the bow) . God bless 🙏😇❤️🏹🎯💯
@TrueLineOutdoors
@TrueLineOutdoors 7 месяцев назад
Good question! You must tune your bow well and have it dialed. I have fletched both and for the test wanted a lot of vane and helical in hopes the results would be more extreme to show. I’m also doing a sound test with all of these vanes and wind test with the hybrid 4 fletch. I have liked 4 fletch in the past for nock tuning. It gives you more positions if you like to nock tune. If you just bareshaft tune it doesn’t really matter but I nock tune with fletchings on to see if I can get my arrows very similar through paper. Once I realize that each arrow can look a little different through paper it made me realize even these Victory Rip elites aren’t perfect. It may not even be necessary but I do it. Another option is if you want lower weight 4 fletch is to go with TAC vanes maybe even the 2.25. They would weigh less than 3 fletch in the AAE Hybrids/Stealth. I still have some with 3 fletch and shot my first TAC all 3 fletch for speed. Recently I also added 4-5 grain wraps as I got tired of dealing with the glue on carbon. Lastly I have noticed that 4 fletch you can probably get more clearance if you are trying to shoot as far as possible assuming they don’t weigh more than the 3 fletch. Would have to use smaller 4 fletch like the TAC 2.25 for example. I’m not concerned about this but it is interesting to see how 3 fletch can hit the sight housing easier as it’s taller. A neat test would be 3 vs 4 fletch of the TAC vanes and see how much clearance you can get with both. It could be dead even! -Kyle
