I have seen these Vevor diesel heaters all over the internet so I just had to get one and test it out. It works much better than I expected and I am dreaming up a few ideas to put it into action on the homestead. What do you think?

Nice! This would be just the ticket to heat my goat barn. I will build an outside enclosure for it and duct the heat into the barn. The "barn" is a 12x16 wooden shed with OSB steel covered roof. Should keep the little girls ( dwarf Nigerian) toasty warm! Beats trying to use electric heaters! (Yes, my babies are spoiled 🤣)

I ordered one to put in my van so I can sleep in the van when I'm on the road doing gigs. I will likely replace the propane furnace in my 1970s slide in. Furnace still works but draws too much power. I will use that on multi day gigs so I have plumbing, fridge and stove. The production trailer will get one to keep equipment warm on below zero days. And I will likely buy my dad a few for his trucks and his "house" .
@volvo09

It uses much less power than the RV furnace. Takes 10A to ignite, but at a sleeping fan speed it's about an amp... If you top off your battery during the day running your engine it'll be no problem on multi day use.

I don’t know what kind of diesel heater he has but I have an 8 kW diesel heater hooked up to a 6 gallon and when I run my diesel heater on full blast nonstop it takes seven days to go through 6 gallons of gas in my 30‘ x 15‘ camper trailer and when we have -30° weather in the winter time in the northern part of Wisconsin run on full blast in our houses basement so our pipes don’t freeze and it keeps it good 65° in our basement but when we heat our basement up 6 gallons of diesel fuel will only last 3 days on high

I installed a Chinese Diesel heater in my 6x12 cargo trailer conversion... I spent all my effort making sure I properly exhausted the unit through my 1 inch insulated wall using a thru-hull stainless outlet as well as using high-temp RTV around my exhaust hose with high quality hose clamps, and thought everything was great.. I now know that I need to also properly setup a thru-hull port for the combustion intake (away from the exhaust). These devices are primitive.. don't trust that the exhaust flow will happen in one direction with 100% certainty... and don't expect your Home Depot CO detector to save you either.. I've smelled the funky smell, and let it go... and it made me pretty sick.. Don't ignore it... do it right. ...also, if you drop the diesel pump frequency, the exhaust-to-intake leak is even worse... Treat the combustion intake just as important as the exhaust itself.

Thanks for the review! I have been thinking about one of these. I hear that power stability is an issue. You would not want to run it off a 120v converter because if the power were to go out while it is running it could be very bad for the unit. It needs power during its shutdown sequence, and it must be shutdown properly. I would like to see how long you could run it off that battery or maybe off the 12v output of a solar generator.

I have one in my garage- 20x24 garage and living up here in northern Canada where it gets to -40 it's handy. I can keep the garage above freezing with one. I ended up building an exhaust out of 1" copper that goes up and over the wall and out the eaves. I ended up putting a T right at the end of the flex exhaust hose and short piece of pipe to capture any condensation that may happen. I'm pretty happy with my setup for it. Don't have your exhaust running uphill or it will fill with condensation as I found out and then the thing will smoke out your building really bad.

@dropshot1967
@dropshot1967 Год назад
It is intended for the air intake to take in outside air. That way you prevent having to draw cold outside air into your heated room. So both the black intake hose and the exhaust go outside so the burning of the diesel and the exhaust it entails basically is in its own outside loop. The internal heat exchanger takes the produced heat and circulates it inside your heated area. What I have seen some people do to increase the efficiency even further is route the exhaust through an old central heat radiator and then to the outside. That way a lot of the heat of the exhaust is also used. In all these are primarily used in campers, rv's, boats. But I have also seen them used in houses as an alternative or even main heating source. Your battery setup would work for shorter periods. But I would combine one with a small/medium solar generator, combined with some solar panels. That way it would work even during an extended power outage. Lots of videos on the diesel use and energy use for the pump/display (battery capacity) on youtube to help calculate your needed storage of diesel for the max periods you expect to use one.
@Rich32262
@Rich32262 Год назад
I was just going to mention something like this based on common sense. It would be nice to have some type of divider so the exhaust doesn't get drawn into intake. I like the idea of using the exhaust heat too. I will probably go with an inverter for my garage/shop so no 12v battery.
@Johndeere8870
@Johndeere8870 9 месяцев назад
The intake hose is like a diesel engines intake valve. all the air the intake pipe takes in goes out the exhaust. For a more efficient burn you should suck in your warm (cab/room) air. Warmer air= warmer burn temps= hotter room temp with less burnt fuel. If it’s -10f your lowering your efficiency a lot drawing that cold of air into your combustion chamber vs the 65f room temp air.

The units in our trucks cost thousands of dollars, and the only thing reliable about them is that they’re totally unreliable. I’m not sure what the problems with them are, but I’ve always suspected it was an issue with the digital thermostats. Please keep us updated on yours, Todd. Yes, exactly. This avoids inducing a negative pressure in the heated space, which would simply draw in more cold outside air. “One hose” portable AC units suffer from the same issue; the new “two hose” models have solved it.

Perfect timing on this video! I've been hearing a lot about these heaters and I've been considering one for my camper. Thanks for the up close view of the set up and for testing it for us.

I just installed one of these that is the same brand as this vid. Its working well, but the heated air has a plastic or strange chemical smell. I have it running outside now in the hopes the smell will be burned off. Has anyone else had this problem. It gagged me out of my house (400sf tiny house) last night. I feel sick if I smell that smell now. Yuk!

I did have same smell, its the rubber gasket under the burner, easy to take away and no smell anymore. Smell wont go away by burning more... i tried it. Take the rubber out.

@braeburn2333 Год назад
@@solopomodoro5853 Thank You! I will. Now that you mention its from rubber, the smell does remind me of burning rubber, or rubber like plastic. I was trying to remember when I had smelled something like that and couldn't place it.

When the heater is listed at 8kw, that is 27,300 btus. That is input bus, not output btus. A typical oil burner is around 80% efficient. So 27,300 btus × 80% is almost 22,000 btus. If you have it outside, so your return air is much colder than inside, you are really killing your efficiency.

i mounted mine on the rear bumper of my 28' travel trailer/camper and swapped the stock 1 gallon tank with a 5 gallon slim style military/jeep gas can so I'm not filling it every day/30 hours! by mounting it outside i don't have to smell the fuel.....i did extend the lcd control wire to mount the control unit to the inside through my tail light hole next to my window ac unit i mounted inside my camper.....if i could put pictures on here i would

Howdy diesel heater community. My unit is running a bit sluggish. I poured lots of different types of things in it to see what it actually can run on but i guess the worst thing a ran in it was synthetic motor oil. Anyway it runs a bit sluggish now and i was just wondering what will happen if i spray some starting fluid in the intake tube while it is firing up ?

Did you noticed that the clicking sound from the pump ever turned off? To this point. Mine has been clicking since I got it and just wondering if that ever shuts off at any point?

it seemed like you could hear the diesel fuel pump clicking noise only immediately after starting it. after that it was quiet or at least manageable. thanks for sharing.

I got one 8kw 2 years ago. Dang thing didnt work right from the start. Wouldn't burn right, wouldnt start. Id have to put either in fuel line and run it before it would start. Have to chole the air inlet to make it fire. I uad to set starting hz at .8 and 1650 rpm to get it to start with out 4 attempts.. But it just wouldn't burn right no matter what settings, lots of popping.. It didn't matter if i ran Diesel or heating oil. Tons of info on settings for the 2&5 kw heaters but almost nothing on the 8 kw heaters. At about 2.8-30 hz i ran for like 8 hrs and had fuel left

heating a garage for sure, I think an amazing use case for this would be the Cheap Geothermal systems that Simple Tek promotes which is a buried irrigation line or PEX and put it down in the Earth with a water air heat exchanger / radiator In summer you can pull cool Earth temps from 10 feet down. and during winter you mount a unit like this behind the box fan and heat exchanger, so now not only are you pulling warmer air up from underground in the winter but then you're also super charging it with additional diesel heat. If your water lines for your Geothermal system are in your floors, you will also be storing that heat energy into the Earth and floors. Lots of ways to do very efficient heating and cooling using a system like this or an AC to supplement simple Geothermal closed loop systems, and those systems are almost always in your favor 10-20 degree advantage in either winter or summer, then just add a tiny bit of AC or diesel heater now you could heat or cool anything. The other way to supercharge a Geothermal system like that is make a hole in the ground, line it with a tarp or get a cistern and drop your closed loop geo lines into a water bath buried underground. Youll be using and storing heating and cooling energy really efficiently in that system.
