You know whats funny. Some teenagers asked me (i work in PC shop) the pricing of 2TB kingston USB stick. When they heard price ( witch was around 1800$) they laughed and say something like... we have a "source" we buy them for 50$ I laughed....hard, and say that he scammed them.

This is the scam most stores that you get ads on Instagram use. "Get this bracelet for free and just pay shipping" and usually they would be discounted from 30$ to 0 but shipping is like 10$. What they do is just order the cheapest stuff from AliExpress and just put in your address. The stuff usually costs about a buck. And some are straight up scams that don't even deliver or deliver something fishy or just something else

It's been 4 years but let me give you an update. Amazon has a policy against fake items and they refund the item fairly quickly and take down the listing. Ebay has adopted that to a lesser extent, they are bitches about refunds but they'll take the listing down. The only thing is neither platform bans sellers permanently. They ban one account, they make another and the process continues forever.

My mom bought a 20TB Hard Drive for $8. She started blaming me for ruining it when I reverted all formatting. She actually thought that I "Deleted the storage" Edit:Returned to this video after 10 months. Top comment :). Parker Hamilton but now it’s under $100 for new m.2 1TB SSDs, and that’s even more unbelievable! I paid $160 for mine, but it’s one of those 3500MB/s read and 3000MB/s wrote maxing out PCIe 3.0 4x drives, so about 6x faster than what the fastest SATA 3 drive can do. Right now storage and memory are dirt cheap ($45 for 16 GB of DDR4 desktop memory, and not the generic green PCB sticks, last year or two I think I had to pay $180 or maybe even $220 for similar). And 64 GB of name branded high speed SD cards are like $20 (I was benching 90MB/s read and write) My ratings are in MB/s, if you are comparing to label, they typically use Mbps or Mb/s, so multiply my rating by 8x (8x bits in a byte), I prefer using something closer to the GB we are used to using (so like that SSD is 3 to 3.5 GB/s, but an internet provider would call that at least 30 Gigabit per second) But you’re right, for real 20TB consumer drives it would cost $480 (2x 10TB NAS drive), haha, yeah a little bit more than his mom paid...

I ordered eye masks from wish, several different ones at £2 each. None of them arrived and were all from Chinese sellers. When I contacted wish some of the people said they would refund, but they never. Basically they take you through so many days of back and forth emailing till you’re over the 30 day limit. Wish don’t care. It was only £14. But imagine how many people they do that to? They will make a fortune purely by advertising small things for small prices and never selling them. I don’t even try things from there anymore. I’m done with it 🙄

No, it doesn't. I have some fakes, and I were able to fill it with files in a way, that it were safe to use:I wrote full the fake part with the program in the video. However, the card forget the data after several weeks, and became unpartitioned. Also, these cards tend to be very slow.

@@RelakS__ The point was that it would've made a nice 16gig card if its controller were properly programmed to make use of those reserve sectors and to present the card as a 16gig card to the host device; if every part of the supply chain would have been honest. @lollllloro
@lollllloro 5 лет назад
@@ferrumignis Of course it would, I would assume that is exactly the way smaller card sizes "get produced". For example, if I had a main goal to produce 64 GB cards, to be efficient I would have to attempt to manufacture the flash chips as something like 80 GB, then for each card determine how much of that is usable and sell them accordingly: if more than 64 GB is usable, set controller "show as 64 GB, here's all these sectors you can use to do that" and sell 64 GB card. else if more than 32 GB is usable, set controller "show as 32 GB, here's all these sectors you can use to do that" and sell 32 GB card. same with 16, 8, 4... to how small sizes I would want to sell and dispose of the rest (apparently this is where the scammers get a hold of them). The amount of excess sectors could mean the card could be faster and be sold as such.

I’ve bought items from Chinese Sellers on EBay, Wish, and Aliexpress- all art supplies. I think it’s a matter of having common sense- is it too good to be true? Then it probably is. It’s hard to smudge the books on a pencil, eraser, and markers. They are what they are, but I wouldn’t ever buy any digital tech from these places. I bought some earbuds last week, looking forward to testing them next month lol
@theweirdo8622
@theweirdo8622 5 лет назад
I've seen people buying clothing and makeup on these Chinese websites. Waste of money. It's tempting to waste money on Wish but... Tech items are always a scam and clothes are a gamble because 99 percent of the time you will waste your money, the item will be a copy of something more expensive but they use cheap materials. In regards to makeup, it would be common sense not to use these things, they could contain lead or otherwise toxic/irritating ingredients. I've seen people with rashes because they used thongs/flip-flops from China. Even earrings would be unsafe in my opinion because they could irritate your skin somehow. Checking reviews help a bit but I'd still be wary of bad materials. I actually told a girl I know about the quality and she still spent a fortune on Wish.
@qwerty_artist
@qwerty_artist 5 лет назад
The Weirdo Yeah, the sizing scale is different in China so I just don’t find it worth the hassle, though my mom bought a pair of boots she really likes. I wouldn’t ever buy something you ingest/apply to yourself, especially when you think about the transit , and quality in general like you said
@theweirdo8622
@theweirdo8622 5 лет назад
@@qwerty_artist Yeah exactly. There's the sizing issue too! I would probably try a clothing item or shoe, but I also don't have disposable money for these kinds of things. They tend to give out refunds but even then, it takes 2-3+ months for something to be shipped. I don't know. Not worth it. In regards to makeup, not only the ingredients can be dangerous but the product might be awful. Like, lipstick that doesn't show on your lips, or with a weird chemical smell etc. And funny thing is, I use Chinese products on the daily, like most of us. Even phones are assembled in China. But these things on Wish aren't actually as cheap as advertised, and considering I'm in South America, I could get better stuff for the same price or less in stores. No real difference for me. There's one thing I might get however, which is a designer jacket I came across on Romwe. It turns out it was an outrageously expensive jacket 'released' in 2011. I found copies of it in Chinese reseller websites but it doesn't include the same patch on it. It would probably be good enough for me though since I can't get the original. The jacket was a Komakino Autumn/Winter one.

Also, be very careful about buying type-c micro USB cables. I have bought several from multiple companies over the past two years, and all but one either took 8 hours for 1% of charge, 0% charge after an entire day, or, in one case, actually lost 1% charge while plugged into a functioning outlet for nearly 8 hours. Fortunately, I was able to return all but the ones I tried from Best Buy, but I had to pay a shipping fee for the ones from Amazon, meaning I paid $18 for the shoddy cables, and they refunded me around $13. They probably just repackaged the cables and scammed another sorry person like they did me. The one I finally found to work (and works just as good as the factory cable that came with my phone) is the BrexLink USB Certified Type C Cable. Good luck.
@HappyBeezerStudios
@HappyBeezerStudios 5 лет назад
It's not only the Type C that can be the issue. My phone got a Type C port for charging and the cable is not fixed to the charger but can also be unplugged for use as regular data cable. I bought a 128GB MicroSD card from Amazon last week, and sure enough it too was a counterfeit. At first glance the packaging seemed okay, but when I saw that my transfer speeds were 3-4MB/s instead of 90MB/s, I became suspicious. Some closer inspection of the packaging had letters that had rainbow fringes (an artifact of scanning) and seemed too thin. The adapter it came with too also had smudged text. Luckily Amazon was pretty quick to resolve the issue, and the second one I received was genuine.

The best advice: regardless of where you bought the card (bad things can get into the supply chain of normal big-box stores, too), always test it before use. Test it for both the capacity and the speeds, to make sure the speed agrees with the label -- for use in video cameras the speed is a real requirement. You might include a link, visible QR code on the video, for h2testw and similar things for other platforms.

Brilliant, very well presented, I recently bought my £45, 128 Mb UHS [1] SD card at PCWorld rather than chance my money on ebay, I have downloaded H2testw and will check it. On ebay A Samsung 256 Mb @ £46.00 ** item Image UHS [3] description type [10]??? So sent question to seller as to what I would receive, got NO reply.! Even when the capacity is genuine, the performance may not be what is required. These scumbags rely on our ignorance of SD card, types and markings.

Yep we got the same scam off of Ebay! In our situation we were recording on our video cam and found out the card wouldn't even hold half of what it said. Opened a return case with the seller. Time and hassle to wait for the seller to respond within 5 days per Ebay's terms n conditions. Like often times, seller never responded. Ebay then had to issue a refund. By this time, nearly two weeks have passed since we initially placed the order whereby taking 4 days till the seller shipped it out, 3 more days until it was actually delivered at our house, the 5 days of waiting for the seller to respond, and then a couple days until Ebay actually issued the refund and the money showed back up in our account. We tried again buying the same sd card but from another seller and got the exact same BS of it wouldn't hold even half of what it said. So had to go thru the whole thing AGAIN of opening a return case. After the garbage of this happening a second time, we said enough was enough and reported it to Ebay right on their website as well as calling to inquire why isn't anything getting done with the thousands upon thousands of fake items on their site especially when this isn't even close to the first time we have been ripped off by products with fake descriptions, but AGAIN we were only given their BS formatted reply of "thank you fo choosin Ebay. We value customers and are do everything make certain customer be assured to get real items" I said "THATS' A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT AND YOU KNOW IT...please excuse my language and tone of voice mam but me n wife as well as COUNTLESS others have been reporting fake items for years whereby proving their fake without any doubt whatsoever but yet you're still allowing those exact same items listed all over your ebay site. We then got the other formatted reply that's adopted by countless companies including Ebay of "sowwy fo incovenience and we take note of situation. If that is all, thank you and have good day" Just look up blue watermelon seeds that the scam capital of the world, china, is still selling on Ebay after several years they have been UNCONDITIONALLY PROVEN fake! Can also look up the COUNTLESS other seeds n such sold by China that are PROVEN SCAM

I've been looking online to buy a microSD card, preferable 256GB. The crazy thing is, there are so many sellers even on sites like Lazada and Shopee that sell them very cheaply, like $10 for 256GB!! Right there and then we have red flags. And then they have Samsung, SanDisk, Kingston and even.. Huawei! Take your pick! And here's the sad part: the folks who purchased them posted reviews swearing that they're authentic even if the font used for '256GB' on a Kingston packaging is obviously fake (many folks posted photos)! If you look further though, there are also many reviews saying their files got corrupted but recovered, they only got 8GB usable, etc., obvious signs that they're fake, and yet no one even mentioned that they thought they were fake!! Either the seller removes reviews that say they're fake or people are just stupid or in denial that they got swindled!! Be careful guys, if it's too cheap you know there's something fishy, even if the seller absolutely guarantees their authenticity.
@AtomicShrimp

What really got my goat was how aggressive some of the comments have been on my videos exposing these fakes - people believed they got a working device specifically because they were fooled by the technical nature of the fakery - the devices typically report high capacity, and accept files (which are just lost as they are copied in), so buyers think that's evidence that they got what was advertised. The whole thing is a textbook example of the Dunning-Kruger effect really.

32gb is still a resonable price for 8 quid. The problem is if it is a factory reject which is likely then you never know what youre being sent and getting a resonable capacity is going to be luck of the draw. And theres no garuntee there aren't other issues either. You can get resonably priced high capacity cards.......but there is a price cut off that if you go below then you realy should be expecting a scam. Unsupprisingly the best way of finding the deals is on gaming pages. Specifically those that concentrate on raspberry pi boards. As people buy' test and then reccomend sd cards. You would struggle to get 64gb for under a 10er. And even in that ballpark youll be getting generic or unbranded stuff that has a lower write/read speed compared to the all singing all dancing sd cards you get on uk highstreets (wilkos seems to offer some of the better deals on those). If you pay peanuts then you realy shouldn't be blaming anyone but yourself when youre shipped peanuts. People do though and quite often at that lol. One of my chinese sellers of choice back in the day was fasttech. They were pretty legit for their products. Mainly as they don't charge unrealistic prices. Ebay is also a good way of saving a buck or 2 on legit memory cards. But you realy do have to read the reviews before hitting that pay button
@AtomicShrimp
@AtomicShrimp 5 лет назад
Yep - i'd never trust one of these even if it was reset to its proper capacity - because of the way these things are made (I mean the legit ones) - they are manufactured with more blocks of memory than spec, then QC processes identify and flag bad blocks, replacing them from the onboard spares - the capacity scam that has been done to this SD card will have destroyed that tuning.

That is a real concern - in fact, the item on Amazon that was (very likely) fake wasn't cheap.I imagine it won't be long before these fake items manage to work their way even into the supply chain of bricks-and-mortar stores. I think the answer is: buy somewhere that has some semblance of trustworthiness, where there is a satisfaction guarantee - always test the product on receipt, and complain, and demand a full refund if it's fake.

Where I live weekly night street markets are pretty common. I went to one and they were selling Kingston 32GB SD cards for 10 rm (2.38USD). I'm not sure what the average price was at that time but around 50 rm (11.92USD) is a safe bet. I bought one. When I used it in my phone, it just doesn't register the card. The card I was using at the time worked fine so it wasn't my phone problem. I tried it on another phone and it still didn't work. They were there the next week. But the week after, they were gone. So that sucks. Ever since then, I've always been super consious about SD cards. Like a year ago I got a 32 GB SD card from a shop in a mall. I have bought an HDMI cable from them in the past and their shop seems reputable. The price was about 70 rm(16.69USD). I asked him if I could test it on my phone first and he agreed. Everything seemed fine so I bought it. I used it until it was full. I had looked online and there were cheaper, a lot cheaper. I looked on Alibaba, Wish, and Shopee. There were a lot of mixed reviews. Some say it works perfectly, some say it works perfectly at first but data got corrupted, some say it's a scam, etc. What scares me the most is that it might work perfectly at first then it gets corrupted and I lose everything. And it's not like I can talk to the seller face to face if anything happens. I'd rather pay more and feel more safe. I found a seller on Shopee and the reviews seemed pretty good. The seller also seems reputable. I got a San Disc 64GB SD Card for 38.80 rm (9.25USD). I have about 44.07 GB left and so far it works fine. The shop that I bought my previous SD Card from told me they had an ongoing promotion. 99rm(23.61USD) for a 64GB SD card. I'm pretty sure the normal price was around 120rm(28.62USD). I think SD Cards are quite easy to scam people. They're small, quite expensive, and a lot of people need them. And you can't really tell if the SD card is authentic until you actually use the item. I've always wondered why it's very expensive? I guess a good rule of thumb is that if something is really cheap, there might be a bad reason why. 🤷

Incorrect. The FAT32 file system supports storage up to 2TB and Windows supports FAT32. Windows 7, 8 and 10 just have an artificial, arbitrary restriction to prevent you from formatting that high capacity as FAT32. XP would happily format it as FAT32. Certified SDXC cards do come formatted in exFat but there's nothing preventing Windows from using the card if you decide to re-format it as FAT32.
