The Hague Convention of 1899 set up the FMJ Only rule for ammuniton in wars. From what I understand their idea was if you shoot one enemy combatant, it won't necessarilly kill them but it takes other enemy combatants out of the fight to get their injured comrade to safety or something along those lines. HPs and SPs have a greater chance of higher lethality potential .vs an FMJ.

Most NATO militaries use only FMJ rounds. This is due to an international treaty that was signed many years ago that forbids the use of expanding rounds. However, the USA never ratified that section of the treaty, and the US Army just recently adopted hollow point ammo along with the new Sig Sauer® M17 pistol.

Just a side note: Garand Thumb tested the reliability of several guns in the AR platform and AK platform and the modern ARs are actually just as, if not more reliable. The myth about lack of reliability stems from the M16 and early AR15 rifles. There are much tighter tolerances and better defenses against grime and grit getting in the inner workings of the gun now. edit: I own both a Ruger AR556 MPR and a Zastava M70 ZPAP so I am not biased any which way. In fact, I actually say my Zastava is my favorite gun (it's in the AK platform)

A large portion of the m16/arma-lite rifles reputation for unreliabilty stems from the Vietnam War and the belief that the rifles were "self-cleaning" and therefore ran dirty in the jungle leading to jams.

the ak is far more reliable than the AR in freezing conditions but the AR is far more reliable in muddy conditions. both rifles excel in the conditions they were mad for unsurprisingly

It's a psl 54 not a dragonov. Still a beautiful gun with an interesting history. It's a cold war gun by definition. This rifle comes from Romania. And since Romania was trying to kick out Soviet rule because Russia would not give dragonov rifles to the Romanian military. They created the psl 54. It's pretty much a stretched out AK. I want one so bad.

The standard 9mm we all know is the 9mm x 19mm. The Makarov is 9x18mm. NATO designated ammuniton, when done in millimeters, is always (bullet diameter) x (case length). Just in case anyone wanted to know that. lol. And 9x19 was designed in Austria by Georg Luger. 9mm Luger/Parabellum. .380ACP, which is a short 9mm is designated as 9mmx17mm, or 9mm Kurtz. Kurtz in German means "short".

As someone who was a grunt in the army M4’s are trash and I hate them lol. They jam up way too easily and require too much maintenance in the field. An AK can go through hell and back and still shoot. The M240 though was a beaut and never failed that I’ve seen

Makarov is a Russian name. That is how all small arms were generally named in the Soviet Union, thus AKM- Kalashnikov, TT-33-Tokarev, SVD-Dragunov, DP-28-Detgyarev, SKS-Simonov, etc.

Makarov is actually extremely outdated, they use MP443 Grach's and PL-14s and PL-15s now which are in 9x19

Well, actually, not MP 443 (made for pneumatics in 4.5 mm caliber), but MP-446 "Viking" sports pistol in 9x19 (FMJ). "Grach" is a generalized project, well, or a competition according to which pistols were made for adoption. The army version is called PYa (Yarygin Pistol) designed for 9x19 (7n21 armor-piercing). And so, actually, GSh-18 under 9x19

Technically an AK 74 u is not a sub gun because it shoots a rifle caliber. A sub gun shoots a pistol caliber.

The AR's I build are more reliable than any AK. Regular manufacturer AR's are bad.. Build 'em yourself. Also next time you're shooting armor/gel could you tell us the ammo type?
