I heard someone say "it won't cut my whole yard." So we mow waste high grass, pig weed, & more until she dies. To see how far this mower will go on 1 charge.
I got this mower specifically to be able to drive it through a 36 inch door ru-vid.comUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend or gate It is a little tight with the grass deflector installed but has more clearance with the deflector replaced by the recycler/mulcher. This model appears to be popular and a little harder to find for that reason. I can't judge the dependability as I have only mowed the yard twice but everything else on the mower is very nice and working fine so far. I added options for the run hour timer, arm backrests, recycler/mulcher, towing bracket, deck lift assist and cover.
I cringed when you went into the pig pen to mow. Then I started laughing because your the only person I can think of that would take a brand new 5,000.00 dollar mower into that kind of an area to see how it will perform. As always, thanks for sharing.
My bro-in-law and sister is seriously considering one of these EGO Z-turn mowers for his 1 acre property. He also has their weed trimmer & leaf blower. He bought my niece an EGO push mower and she really likes it. I bought my wife an EGO weed trimmer almost 3 years ago and it's functioned perfectly. I'm sending my bro-in-law a link to this video. Your test is a real world stress test. Very impressive!! Thank you!! 👍👍
Smart like tractor, brave like dog. Marvelous test, and I’m researching for my own land which is grassy like this one, tall grass prairie, but hilly. You’ve convinced me thank you!
I'm highly convinced on buying one of those Eco zero turn mowers. Those products seem like they're good to have. I'm highly impressed on how long it ran. That is a lot of mowing.
I have never seen a presentation of any product that someone yanks, rips and throws the new merchandise around like this while unboxing. Kind of humorous to watch. Probably closer to how a guy would do it before his morning coffee if no one was watching. Good video
Great video! I love mowing videos. I still love my push mower, though. The world disappears when I mow. A stubborn dog keeps you young. Thanks for the video. Have a great week. 😊🙏
What I love about my original commercial walk behind belt drive mowers is I dont have no payments. They are paid for they dont breakdown like a new mower. You see both of my mowers have been tested and broke in the right way.. they both run 5 day work weeks 365 days a year. As of this year they will both have new paint jobs. Simply the best
I’ve been watching some of these other sites where it seems to be running over Astro-Turf.. nice to see this machine get pushed into some hard ,real world use. Thanks for posting.
had the ryobi 38" deck mower. spent 2 of the 3 years in the shop. now have the ego and was glad to see your test. hoping to have better success than the ryobi that is still in the shop waiting on new batteries....
Great video Stan! I actually saw one of those machines at a local Lowes in a city 45 minutes away from me. I showed my old man and we thought it was pretty neat because we have never seen a battery powered zero turn right there in front of us before. And we were kind of skeptical of it at first because we heard different mixed things about it. And now since I saw that you had made a video on that mower, I'm going to show this video to my pops to let him see this awesome test that you put this mower through. And while I'm at it, I'm going to tell him to subscribe to your awesome RU-vid channel my man. Keep up the great work!!
@@Dirtmonkey Do you think you would ever do a head to head of the Ego and the Ryobi zero turn mowers? I'm planning to get one before spring next year but I'm not sure which. Thanks
@@Dirtmonkey well I'm 6' like 220 and I felt like it was not as as comfy as a gravely or a hustler. The controls were better. I felt like a giant though.
I have 1.2 acres and just bought one of these with the 4x12 amp batteries. A lot of complaints about battery life not being enough for an acre but this video is giving me a lot of confidence and you are using 4x10 amp batteries. I pick mine up in 2 weeks so fingers crossed everything works well.
That's a lot of work even for a gas mower, impressive! My mower won't even touch that stuff. If range is an issue it's probably comes down to how it's used. Probably not ideal if your going from lawn to lawn and not charging in between, but if your just doing one lawn and have time to charge up batteries it's pretty viable.
This is a great video. Most other tests are in the areas that look like they don’t even need mowing while this looked like grass at our place. It would be great to see how they climb hills!
@@brandyjupiter7785 hi, an update. I finally managed to get one in Australia. Climbing is not too bad as long as you point it directly uphill and reverse back. Going down forwards is scary as the tyres lose the grip on the grass and you become a passenger. I might consider getting offroad tyres to replace the stock ones. It is surprisingly stable though. Must be because of the low centre of gravity. It has kept the front wheels on the ground all the time. Also the light weight helps. Even with the slippery and smallish tyres it climbs better than my old Simplicity lawn tractor with massive wheels and a diff lock.
@@kimmohietala5359 awesome stuff, good to know! Was reading through the comments for this exact thing, hill climbing and performance. Have you changed out the tires yet or find that necessary? Any fix for the downhill losing control you can think of? Winter here now in the states but will be getting one this spring for sure.
@@runroemer7741 Hi, I haven’t changed the tyres but lowered the tyre pressure right down for extra traction. It climbs actually really well. Just drive forwards up and reverse down. I’ve done some mad hills, probably 30 degrees. The problem is that sometimes the drive just goes off that other users have also reported and if you are not quick with the foot brake or locking the wheels with the handle bars. When the drive goes off the mower flips 180 degrees and the front points downwards and that is scary.
Nice demo. Long time ego user here. Also in Minnesota. I've got almost everything they make.11 batteries. New xp mower is nice but it's stupid ramp up time is too long. Ive been thinking of getting this but 5k is tough to justify. I built a 46" remote controlled mower powered by ego batteries which is fun an extremely powerful. Runs on 4 batteries. I just keep blowing up the electronics due to the amount of power required to run a 46" deck. My build proved that ego batteries are unbelievable. I pull 20 amps from each battery all the time. It cuts the same tall grass you are showing.
So they sent you another one to try out? Love the extreme action testing. Gives you a great idea of how the mower will perform for a standard homeowner who needs to cut grass every week. But nice to know that if you need to knock down some unruly stuff, it will do it as well. Love these testing videos - please do more! Have a good one, Stan.
I really enjoyed this demo, You make really good video's. Just wish we had some reliable dirt monkeys like you here around Cando, ND that are honest like you are. Thank you for your content n video's
Excellent video!!! I know the running lights are not using that much power but it slightly bothered me with running them on during the day when trying to get as much as possible out of the mower's batteries. 🙂 Well done!
Really liked this review. You’re mowing grass like I have; farm grass! I’m impressed with the electric mowers so far. My electric push mower, greenworks pro 21", does an impressive job on the big grass (2-3’) on rough terrain! While I’m impressed with the zero-turn you tested (and some others I’ve seen demoed online), I’m not quite ready to switch to one for my main mower. I’m just upgraded to using commercial grade zero-turn (hustler fasttrak 54") now and retired my residential grade zero-turn cubcadet 48" (with the steering wheel) to cleanup duty. I used the cub for everything since 2017 and put 900 hrs on it; it took a beating, but after 2 sets of spindles and some deck welding, it’s still functional. The electric mowers in commercial grade are still too expensive for me.. but I think they are getting there (are there?) capability-wise! Just get those prices down!
I was lucky to be able to get one of these mowers the same year as they were introduced. I wish they had these about thirty years ago. Name anything, I love everything the list is to long. I have a half acre of lush, thick, weed free KGB. The batteries last for the entire mow, even when running the blades at higher speed to mulch leaves in the fall. The cut is so even people thought I had installed fake grass. My wife said that when just driving past the lawn looks to fakey. I don't know if I like that description. I mow two to three times a week not only because the lawn needs it or to keep it looking fake, it's because it's actually fun when one has the perfect tool.
Yes!! I've been waiting to someone do this. I really like the Ego gear, I would really love an Ego push mower because I only have a small lawn, but I can't afford it at all. I am keen to get a hedger so I can expand my business into hedging too. My dad said though once I reach 1k subs he might look at gettting me my own cyclinder mower so we can have that bowling green look one day. You're a legend Stan, I love your videos and I really appreciate now how much work goes into fillming and editing etc because I film my own videos.
I have one. They are amazing. Tesla of lawn mowers. Coupled with the lineup of compatible lawn tools and a nexus power station and you have quite a powerful battery system. Also, The mower deck unplugs and comes off in 30 seconds. Bungee up the cables and The family loves it as a go cart.
I would've grabbed the cordless impact after the first bolt was halfway in. I love the idgaf way you took that mower off the skid. I guess that's part of the test. Do they let you keep the mowers they send for reviews? If so a giveaway with them would be awesome, or even donate them to teenagers looking to start a lawn care business.
I bought one and returned it. Maybe my batteries were defective or a firmware update made battery usage more efficient but I didn’t see anywhere near the run time you did. I have 2 acres to mow and it couldn’t do more than 1.5 (of regular length grass) without going into rescue mode needing a recharge. The deck rattle was driving me nuts as well. The decals started peeling off and getting bubbles under the surface within 3 weeks (stored in the garage except for while mowing), giving the plastic a really cheap look. I can’t fathom what this thing would look like in 3 years. Yes, the power/torque was insane and I loved how quiet it was (minus the deck rattle). But after a few weeks of usage, it was clear to me that this was a $2k mower with $3k worth of batteries… I couldn’t justify keeping it. I hope my experience was a fluke - I really wanted to love this mower. Maybe a few generations down the line they’ll have these issues worked out and I can get a more mature version.
Ok, my wife and I are wanting to get an electric zero-turn mower. This EGo looks like one of the best on the market right now, Although Ryobi has a new "joystick" mdel coming out soon it looks like a decent mower, and they are making a 30" model that will fit through gates easily.
I get about 80 minutes out of my Ego push mower with a 10Ah battery cutting tall weeds (including frequent stops to clear out weeds clogging the chute). That covers about 1/3 of an acre. The runtime on normal grass is about the same. The real question is whether it still lasts that long in a few years.
I bought an ego about 5-6 yrs ago it is the old model but I have had zero problems, it still as strong today as it was when I first used it. I have about 1\2 acre takes about an hour and half to mow, trim (also have ego trimmer) the mower has 7.5Ah battery and I get a good hour and half or more mow time. I still have battery time left after I finishing mowing 1\2 acre. One of the best investments I have made, I hope you have just as good service out of yours.
Stan, whatever you tested is not what they sold us. I wrote several paragraphs I planned to post on your original review in frustration hoping something like this would happen and let it go. Happy to help you test a real Ego Zero Turn, and send you what I wrote. Willing to send you mine from Alabama or let you test it here
Ryobi came out with a 54 inch electric mower with a manufactured deck and longer run time. Hope you get one of those to test as that one looks the most impressive for home owners with bigger properties.
I bought a Ryobi in 2021. Batteries started going to hell last season. Now in 2023 it's pretty much useless. Was under warranty. A repairman had it for like 6 weeks, said he was having trouble finding replacement batteries. I just found out yesterday I'm getting a full refund. Now I'm thinking about going with the Ego mower. Reviews on the Ryobi aren't good, the lead acid batteries are very unreliable.
I have the EGO push mower and several other EGO yard tools. The push mower is sufficient, with a 7.5aH battery, to mow most of my yard of about half an acre. That brings up the thing that not many users of electric over gas yard tools mention, and that's recharge time. A rapid charger for the 7.5aH battery takes about an hour to recharge from the lowest charge level the mower allows, which I think is about 15%. A second battery is necessary to finish the job right away, versus waiting for a charge. Easy enough for me with a few other tools' batteries from which to choose. If all one has is one battery, that would substantially increase the time needed to finish such a job, whereas a gas mower can be refilled in moments. What is the recharge time for the six-pack of batteries the zero-turn riding mower? How much do extra batteries cost? Just some things to keep in mind, not deal breakers for me, I now prefer battery over gas for typical home-use yard tools. No potentially dangerous gas cans in the shed or garage, no oil changes, no air filters, no spark plug changes, no exhaust fumes, and way less noise. The tools also weigh less, easier to lug around.
According to what I've found out this mower can do 10.000 m2 on a single charge (all 6 batteries), that's almost 2.5 acres. The charger is supposed to load tha batteries in 2 hours, I'm assuming that is referring to one battery. Honestky the more I find out about this the more I like it, the only thing I'm not a fan of is the color scheme but I'd get over that. My guess is that one battery somewhere in the 500$ range. If they behave like every other power tool battery they'll last you for years, except maybe if you mow several acres a day professionally or really beat the machine up. And all that for 5000$, sounds amazing.
That mower just keeps on trucking. I figured that the mower's battery would last longer than your camera arm. Interesting that this is where you grew up and slopped the hogs back in the day. Thanks Stan...
Definitely interested in one of these!!! I have the push mower and for the most part i like it but im not impressed with run time. I may have the smaller battery. I also noticed if you “give it a break” it seems to regain some battery life
the self recharging is a mix of the battery chemistry restabalising (most notable in old lead acid car batteries where they produced hydrogen gas under load) and probably a bit of the batteries load balancing as each battery is just a box of batteries
I've got an ego lawnmower, weed wacker, edger, hedge trimmer and pole saw. The problem I have is all the batteries are starting to fail right after the warranty period ends. They all seem to crap out right after 3 years. It really makes me want to switch brands.
If there blinking red most of the time its just a loose connection just take the screws out and check to make sure the connection are good 3 of mine so far i have fixed this way
@@MichaelHarrell11 thanks. I'll try that with the one that has that problem. My other two batteries have different problems. One is the battery just dies really quick on any tool. The other has the battery get very very hot while using it and get blinking yellow lights.
Bought the tools and one of these for my girlfriend. Works great . Mow what you can plug her into recharge the batteries while weed eating and such go again. Works great. Got a step van gonna ad solar panels and chargers and a bank of batteries. Got the nexus power station as well. Should work great.
Not to mention included in the run time, you had the headlights on the whole time. Probably led, but still consuming some of that battery power. Impressive machine.
There are lights that are on when the mower is on. There are additional lights that are controllable for night mowing. No matter, the led's use so little power compared to the 4 motors that they are practically insignificant.
@@Dirtmonkey been too damn long imho twin cities have been hot;up N is hot...hopefully get some super soaker rains to create some mud to cool down on the wheelers
Hi Stanley the mower seems to work really good but I saw one or two red tractors at the farm would like to see a video on the tractor. Have a really great day.
Ego makes some good products but the problem is their batteries don’t last. We tried them in our commercial lawn care business and had 2-7.5ah batteries go after a year and a 3rd one at a 1.5yrs. I live in the south and the heat index routinely gets 110+. We made the switch to husqvarna commercial battery equipment and have not had one issue after a year. The husqvarna Bli200x and 300 batteries have a built in fan that helps cool the batteries in extreme heat. So far very happy with the switch.
@@Dirtmonkey Hey Stan, yes we contacted ego about it and they replaced the batteries under warranty but it took a few months to get them back. We ended up just selling off the ego equipment do to the long down time for replacement parts. If they had local dealers with parts in stock like husqvarna or stihl it would’ve been a better experience. You should give the husqvarna stuff a try one day I think you’ll be impressed.
The battery power indicator is probably just sensing system voltage. Based on the load at the time that could be dipping due to excessive current draw.
I wonder if the increase in battery as you go along could also have something to do with voltage sag. The battery voltage drops under heavy load, and then returns to a more nominal value when the load is removed. It's a normal thing with drones, e-bikes, and other things that use Lithium batteries in high current applications.
Send me one will ya? The missus and I are eyeballing several acres wayyy outta the city before the crap hits the fan. We're already in the boonies, but we're possibly headin' to the middle of nowhere. We are going to check out and hopefully decide this weekend. Ive always lived on the cheap, while my peers are in half $million homes, Im in my little condo. But, times change and I wanna grow some corn I think. Gonna need a mower. 😁
Thank you for this video. I'm seriously considering buying this mower for my 2-acre property. I've mowed the kind of tall (Johnson) grass (about 6 feet high) that you mowed with my Troy-Bilt 46-inch gas mower. Took forever but it did the job. My property has portions that are like the pig pen area - all torn up with ruts (don't ask why!) so your showing me what this mower can do on rough ground like that is very much appreciated. I'm wondering, however, how long it takes to charge up the batteries.
Altoz has a Stand on and a Zero turn that is Tracked with the Brush hog Deck. Call Minnesota Mowers for a Demo at your house. Coming in November they will have a store front in Downtown Maple Lake, MN
I think I'd have had to have taken a bushhog over most of that "lawn", LOL! I've had coon hounds, beagles, a dachshund and a couple of basset hounds and by far the most stubborn are the basset hounds, but they're also the most friendly and lovable of all of them. They're 2nd only to bloodhounds when it comes to tracking a scent and when they're tracking they sure aren't paying attention to anything else, lol.
Some people testing run it very fast which will drain the battery much quicker than running at moderate speed. If you go at top speed you will not be able to cut as much. Very simple.
Okay this is the third video Ive watched just had to subscribe, love the real grass and mud and hilly terrain and often during the rain. Just the facts. Cannot justify the cost of used car though. :-) Hoping the cost comes down with volume manufacturing and battery tech.
At first I was no never happening of me having and electric mower, after watching this video and checking it out of the interactive thing on EGO website.... I kinda want one now! Kinda impressed with it. Only thing I don't like is that you have to wait 2hrs to recharge (unless you have extra batteries but they can be expensive) Like I said kinda got me hooked now, wish I could afford one. If got 2 extra big batteries I think could just barley mow everything. Is it fairly light in the front? Only thing is don't think could mow the drain field..... A massive steep drain field! Idea be considered of it flipping from being to light in the front. Scary enough on regular style mower and garden tractor, go backwards and slow down to fast if hit the brakes, good chance of flipping. Luckily for the 3 or so years have had it maintained and could mow with the rider, haven't hurt myself or the mowers yet and got a strategy down for it, still scary as heck. Like I said ide love one for even a month to test out at our place, 5 acres and about 2 1/2-2 3/4 of it gets mowed, and most of it is as I call it my "fields" that are usually like what you mowed (sane where the drain field is) with the riders as long as it's not wet or to extremely tall I can mow everything in about 3hrs
If you can afford a $5k mower, you can justify buying some more batteries. And truthfully, if you can't get your lawn mowed with the 4 batteries, you have no business buying an electric mower.
