Was about to make the same point. Surely the 30s shoes cannot perform well with a 2000s ball (way too light for these). Wonder how it was really working with a ball of its era. But then (and I was mostly a goalie) to think that they were playing WITHOUT gloves to catch a freaking leatherball is blowing my mind. Truly those goalkeepers were warriors. Reminds me of a saying, I think it was for Yashin (50s-60s) : "He puts his hands where I won't put my foot !".

Pray to God everyday. But to not be blabbering that just say a bunch words to try to impress and show off to other people or to impress God. A few words out of the heart is better than saying a bunch words to impress and not mean. This does not mean praying long prayers is bad. When I was playing keeper in the early 80s and I started seeing the gloves, I didn't want them. They were so thick! Great for blocking shots, but I thought it had to be hard to catch the ball with them. Likely I was wrong on that point, but I didn't want to spend money to find out.

I actually admire the Goalkeeper's position as it's unique. There can be 1-4 Forwards, 2-5 midfielders, 3-5 Defenders but only 1 Goalkeeper. That's why even though you may have 1 or 2 average players in the outfield you need to have a great goalkeeper to be a successful team and the Keeper plays an important role. Just like the wicket keeper in cricket.
