Me and my knucklehead friends decide to take on the adventure of a tough Idaho trail in the Boulder Mountains..for the second time. Last year this trail turned us around with our tails between our legs. The entire group waited for a year for a chance at redemption in the Idaho mountains. This time we're faced with a trail that's even tougher than before, recovery situations with other rigs on the trail, a hurricane that makes landfall in Idaho, and our own anxiety over driving up a tough trail.

What a great adventure.. I’m new at jeep wheeling and many years doing atv / side by sides, there are many things you shouldn’t do while wheeling on any of these machines.. drinking is the worst.. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for backing that up. I've had plenty of good encounters with SXSs from folks who take it seriously. Unfortunately I've had just as many bad experiences from folks who don't. I think part of it because they are so easy to rent for the day..and they are so dang capable, that there are often beginners or very casual riders on tough trails. In any case, drinking and wheeling is just stupid.

That was a pretty impressive feat for Nick. He seemed like he was well outside his comfort zone, especially on the waterfall spot. You could tell his stress was at an all time high going up and down it because he wasn’t even able to focus on the spotter and follow direction. I think we’ve all been there when you deal with off-roading, and it’s a good lesson to push through and conquer. Hopefully it helps him in the future if he is going to keep getting off of the pavement. The entire episode was fantastic.

This is such a great comment. Thank you for pointing that out about Nick. We were all really proud of him, even if there were a few tense spots. What we didn't show in the video is before we left for Smiley Creek...we all sat down and toasted the day, shared what we learned, and generally debriefed.

Awesome video man, looks like a fun trail! Seeing a traffic jam on a trail will hopefully shed light on why some of us don’t share all the locations of places we travel to make videos. Love your video. I hate when I see multiple spotters giving direction at the same time. Land Cruiser had no business being on the trail with 2 wd. Going through the Idaho forests now I always bring a electric chains saw to supplement the hand saws I have. Last trip over Pinion Peak I had to remove 6 trees. With all the rain on the boulders I would always be afraid of slicing a sidewall as the water just makes a good lube for that sort of thing. Keep up the great videos.

Clarification….the alternator on the Bronco is mid engine…yeah not great. The allowed submergence is still 33.5” which is respectable to the wranglers 33.6”. For education to the Bronco owners out there the 4mph max is to keep from splashing up onto the alternator. Be safe and get home!!!

... another fun fact about Washington Basin. Last time up we were back down at the highway airing up ... a guy stopped to ask if we were good and he was a local rancher who just so happened to own the plot up in the basin. The forest service has been wanting to close the trail from the meadow up to the top, but can't because of the plot he owns. I of course thanked him ... he was a cool guy. This coincided with a conversation I had with one of the USFS employees over on Trail Crk that also stated that the Sawtooth office was trying to arbitrarily close roads and restrict access.

That’s so odd. Pole creek is super popular, and there’s lot of camping going on out there.
@obrianmcc
@obrianmcc 10 месяцев назад
Definitely not what I like to hear ... my fear is that trails like Boulder (and even still Washington) could be on borrowed time. I hope that I'm wrong The problem is systemic throughout the off road community. Lot's of players but very few actually participate in helping to preserve access. I hope your reach can stimulate ethical use and participation@@Venture2Roam

Thank you!! I don’t share coords, but it’s a known trail. Just search the name of it, and I’m sure you can find it.

A little judgmental in this video…

What did you find judgmental??

Bagging on the side by sides, the peanut gallery, the guy going up without a front drive shaft. They were all there for the same reason you guys were. I love what you’re doing but off roaders need to stay united.

@@JasonJedry From my perspective, it wasn’t judgemental. We recovered those guys in the Landy. We didn’t have to do that…we helped them out because it was the right thing to do, and like you say..we stick together. I disagree with their choice, but that’s not judgemental. The side by sides showed up and I called them the Calvary, or the Peanut Gallery, or both. So I was saying they showed up to help (the Calvary) but a bunch of them stood around shouting things (the peanut galley). But I didn’t mean it as an insult..it was just what happened. I do take issue with drinking and wheeling though. That’s not a good thing to promote. It was a very tense situation. Hope that helps give context. It’s hard to get all of that in the video without it being 2hrs long.

Thanks for listening. We’ve wheeled just about everywhere you’ve put out there and it keeps getting busier and busier here.

Judgemental, not at all, this is why America is weak. You say what you want to say and f everybody brotha. Tell them to write a note on your suggestion box toilet paper 🚽 wheel on my friend

😂😂😂. I get that I have viewers that drive different types of rigs though, and honestly do not see myself as judgemental. I do disagree with certain decisions though… in the end, we helped everyone out, and even shared a camaraderie moment with the SXS crew.

I have a 98 xj on 33s with a 4.5 lift.. Rock sliders , Trans and transfer case protection.. and a manual 5 speed.. I trust my spotters to get me through the rough stuff.. this trail looked challenging but very doable.. with a beautiful prise at the end.. I also run 10 to 15 psi, no bead locks.. slow and steady wins the race everytime.. thanks for the adventure..
