This is pretty cool. Several months ago, I won a brand new ($1500) ICOM IC-705 low-power portable ham radio transceiver at a ham fest. It can receive anything and everything from 30 kHz (that's below the AM broadcast band) to 200 MHz, plus 400 MHz to 470 MHz.
So, it can receive the FM broadcast band (in mono).
It has a BNC antenna input, so it was easy to quickly hook it up to my new-to-me Panasonic VP-8131A AM/FM stereo signal generator.
I've tuned the signal generator to produce a signal at 99.7 FM, modulated by the generator's built-in 1000 Hz or 400 Hz audio tones. 1 mV amplitude. The ICOM IC-705 is receiving this signal loud and clear and playing the 1000 Hz or 400 Hz tone (as well as displaying the signal on the IC-705's "waterfall" display.)
Bottom line: this is further evidence that the "for parts or not working" Panasonic signal generator is in fact working perfectly well! Sweet! (And I'm getting some additional use out of my IC-705!)
