How I test newly laid HO scale scratch-built turnouts to verify trains will run through them without derailing. My gold standard is running long trains backward at 60 scale miles per hour (about 1' per second in HO scale) with zero derailments. I give tips for how I accomplish this. Thorough testing means zero rail/wheel caused derailments in an op session.
