I have just aquired the Autosonic disc jockey but when I press the Stop and reject buttons the arm swings off but then swings back to play again. Any advice appreciated.
Unfortunately nothing very obvious. My Philips is not working at the moment so I can't see what that one does. I did find the service manual for the 3 speed version quite handy. Have a hunt for ag1003.pdf or similar. Mine is the 4 speed version but I didn't find a good copy of the service guide for that, and they are very similar mechanisms anyway. If you drop me an email (details in the RU-vid about section), I could send you a copy. Good luck.
Sorry I don't know. What I did was 3D print new headshells so could use modern ceramic cartridges: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B1El4q1t68I.htmlsi=H40E1shV6m1F1kRn Thanks 😀 👍
This is more a question than a comment... I have an earlier deck in my radiogram with the AG3016 pickup. Everywhere I read people have to replace the inside with a new cartridge because the old salt crystals decay. Mine is still working perfectly and I have even tested it with a frequency record. It works from 20-15000kHZ. It is all original. Is it normal for this type of cartridge to still function? Regards Enriko
This radiogram I believe initially came with 2 separate cartridges, one for shellac records and one for microgroove. Both of these have really badly leaked. The AG3016 I think is slightly later, maybe from the 1960s, and maybe is constructed differently. I too was very surprised to find mine worked. I designed and built my own 3D printed headshells for modern ceramic cartridges, and it was only much later I tried the AG3016! Having said that, it probably needs new styli. To be honest I don't know if it is normal or whether we have both been lucky. Thanks 😀 👍
Well, this is great as I have just brought home the Autosonic version and it has the original headshell too... Still playing as just literally brought it home... It is working and sounds fantastic on 45's :) :) :)
That's great news! 👍😀. The 2 original cartridges which came with this have turned to gunk, but this later one worked just fine when I tried it. I do need to service the mechanism again at some point as its not working at the moment. I have also made replacement headshells using modern cartridges as the originals are hard to get.
@@mrrgstuff All the mechanics are working but there is now an issue with the sounds, I know from past experience that old valve amps play up after they have been turned back on again after years of hibernation in an attic... I will have to try and get it sorted... The headshell is the one you showed working and seems to be the original from what I have found already... I shall try and get a video up on it soon...
Looking forward to seeing it. Yes, valves can be tricky. I still need to do some electrical tests on the PYE Record Maker before I turn it on. I'm going to start servicing the mechanism but I have a few other things to do first. 😀
With a bit of luck it will work just fine. I have seen styli available online for it, but vintage cartridges will be very iffy. I am sure it would be possible to rebuild it with a modern cartridge if necessary. Thanks 😀 👍
Thats unfortunate. With my Philips radiogram I made a new cartridge around a modern ceramic type cartridge, works ok (though its a modern amp too, not the original valve one), but doesn't look that great. It should be possible to rebuild the original cartridge in the same way, but the modern ceramic cartridge may not have the power to drive the original amp very well. The tracking force is quite high too. On mine its about 13g!
Sorry, I don't know. I don't think they have been made for a very long time (maybe 40+ years) and even if you could find one, it might not work. I have converted my Philips to use modern cartridges using a 3D printed headshell. Thanks
@@mrrgstuff Thanks for responding so quickly, do you have any video on your channel on how to do it? I have a 3d printer but I do not know much about cartridge types and if modern ones have to have something special to be compatible. Thanks :)
No problem 😃. Yes I did a few videos quite a while back on this. Probably the best one is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B1El4q1t68I.html I have used a modern amp instead of the built in valve/tube radio - so I don't know how well the modern cartridges would work with that - but I sure there would be a solution to it. These might be useful to you also: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ZTm9vFht78.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gb2cHrfEXs0.html Thanks 😃👍
What I did was to make my own headshells with a 3D printer and and fit modern ceramic cartridges: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B1El4q1t68I.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OEkFSynfX3w.html I'm not sure if these would work with the original amplifier as I also replaced the electronics with something more modern. I also added a IR controlled volume control for the new amp: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gb2cHrfEXs0.html This was a few years ago - so the quality of the videos aren't as good as my current ones
@@mrrgstuff would you make one for me? Obviously i would pay you, but i just cant seem to find any options without rebuilding the head, and im hesitant to do that as i may break it...
👍 This one is in a radiogram too. I have never really done a proper video on the radiogram, but you might be interested in: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ZTm9vFht78.html Thanks 😀👍
