In June 2022, when i graduated, as a prize due to my doing well on the final exams and things like that, the school thought to give to me their old supposedly broken PCs and monitors to see if they can be fixed and repurposed. Let's see if those things work.
My name is Kyriakos Kousathanas. I make tech review/repair videos for my passion and for people to learn about what's up with tech and to learn repairing their devices, whether old or new.

This are all still easily usable with an SSD. Even an old Core 2 Quad can still do the job so those old i5 and i7 pcs will easily last 2-3 more years for basic use at least

As someone who runs a lot of 3rd gen Core i3 PC's with SSD's at my school, I can tell you that the time has come to move on. Granted they are only dual core chips, but they struggle with modern day to day use. The improvement in CPU performance the last 12 or so years means that it's hard to keep using these old systems. Let alone that they aren't supported on Windows 11 and Windows 10 has about 18 months left to go.

@@craigmurray4746 Yeah, i have a lot of older gen PCs from work too and the i3 is at its limits. As for Windows 11 you can use it easily on an old pc if you remove the useless requirements. I got an old Core 2 Quad Q9400 and an i5 4570 PC that run 11 just fine

@@craigmurray4746Not really, Many people still use them today And you can easily install Windows 11 on them, I installed 11 on a HP Probook w/ an i3 4000u, and it works just fine

Cool video. That lack of ram reminded me of how kids in my school were ruthless to computers at school. When the library lady left i saw them disassemble the case because a kid carried a screwdriver in pencilcase. They stole ram, then they took the cpu fan and found out that the cpu was already gone which explained why it did not boot up XD then they did the classic move to remove and place keys on keyboard to form profanities. They gave me the hdd and tasked to check the contents. It was some ubuntu whose only cool files were some .txt chat on the desktop folder and browsing history. The .txt chat was just short sentences talking trash on school and insulting particular students from 4 years ago. The browsing history was mostly browser games, social media of particular local students, free vpn queries to avoid the national filter for public schools and attempted viewings of adult sites. Hilarious. This is the kind of computers they give away for free, since some kid already broke it and that is the kind i got from school. Thank you for the video.

That Gigabyte system reminds me of the custom built my elementary school had at the computer lab, I looked like the fanciest one there out of all the Dell Optiplex 745’s. Looked like it could’ve ran Windows 7, especially with the Vista-era Microsoft keyboard and ASUS widescreen monitor, but it’s impressive how long they stuck with Windows XP. I remember they hadn’t even updated past Office 2003 when the rest were already with 2007 at the time.

Windows XP? Have you checked the image files of where people stored their MS paint's painting? I remember when i started middle school, the computers were filled with crude pp drawing, minecraft and other sort of things. There were TONS of it. Not to mention that this computers were still in use even after I graduate Highschool. Some of them even contained some pown videos which was very weird. (Was deleted after they were caught watching it while in class, and download it in class) There were some games, account that links to the kid's gmail account, other website's account. I dont really remember the specs of these desktop since the last time i even visited there was quite a while ago. Most of them are 7 and if you're lucky vistas. Love to see the i guess i should say (that doodles that you did in class's desk while you were bored) is still in these computers. Man, good days. In high school there weren't much to look at since the only time you get to use one of the computers is when you're doing a test that the government gives out to schoolgoers.

I got a i5 2400 and a gtx 1060, it plays games well, i5 3770 are the best processors just needs a gpu in those pcs and it'll perform better than mine

Pretty awesome that a SandyBridge and a GTX 1060 still play games! My laptop that i have since 2019 has the GTX 1050 and it still plays games despite the low VRAM and the lag with newer games. But i mostly play on my desktop, so i don't think that would be much of a problem.

The 2, 1 power button code leads to a motherboard that killed itself. Even with RAM, it will not proceed to a boot process

1:50 thats not completely true you can run 2x2gb on channel A and 1x4gb on channel b resulting in 8gb dualchannel
@hoarderteks
@hoarderteks 6 месяцев назад
I don't think that ever worked, and plus it's not suggested due to perfomance losses because of incompatibilities across various systems. Also, i have an ASUS P6T board from 2009 with tri-channel ram support, and it works perfectly with the 3x 4 GB RAM i have put on that thing since it's made to support it. Now, a computer would work still with 3 sticks on a dual channel system that takes 4 ram sticks, but most of the time you'd want to install the ram in a way that is compatible with the CPU and the chipset.
@necktwister666
@necktwister666 6 месяцев назад
@@hoarderteks it works when the ram has similar enough timings. anything with ddr3 or 4 works usually with that move. there also isnt a difference between 1x4gb dualrank and 2x2gb singlerank to the computer
@RobbDrew03
@RobbDrew03 6 месяцев назад
@@necktwister666 I don't think that's how it works buddy 1. If you put 3 RAM sticks in 3 RAM slots, it's not gonna be dual channel. It's gonna be single channel instead, which throttles the computer. 2. Dual channel RAM requires sticks to be in A0 and B0 (Slot 1 and 3), Slotting sticks in Slot 1 and 2, or Slot A0 and A1, It will be single channel 3. Those computers were not intended for Kyriakos to main them. 4GB of RAM is just enough to test the overall functionality of those computers.
@necktwister666
@necktwister666 6 месяцев назад
@@RobbDrew03 no its exactly how it works how the hell should it be singlechannel when channel a and channel b each have ram in them ?

you put in slot 1 and 2 the 2gb sticks and in slot 4 the 4gb stick
